Softball Ends Season in Extra Innings

5/3/12 – The Crimson Wave softball team ended their season in the second round of the CCAC Softball Tournament host by CCSJ at the Whiting Sports Complex to the Judson University Eagles tonight.  The Crimson Wave end their season 28-25 on the season.

The Crimson Wave scored the first run of the game in the first inning when Samantha Abrego doubled down the left field line to score Jessica Pabey.   The Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the third scoring two runs.   CCSJ tied the game in the fifth inning on a Judson error.  The game stayed tied at two apiece until the bottom of the ninth when the Eagles hit a two run homer to win the game.

Abigail Nelsen took the loss on the mound facing 38 batters and striking out 3.  Abrego and Pabey were both 2-4 at the plate. 

Softball Splits in Huntington

4/26/12 – The Crimson Wave softball team split today at the Huntington University in a non-conference doubleheader in Huntington, IN.

In game one the Crimson Wave took a 6-3 victory.   Jessica Pabey hit a two homer in the first for a 2-0 CCSJ lead.  The second inning brought two more Calumet runs on an error by Huntington and an Amanda Gutierrez RBI.  Samantha Abrego hit a home run in the third for a single CCSJ run.  The fourth inning brought another CCSJ run when Lauren Johnson scored on a Pabey single.   Alex Latronica took the win with six strikeouts.  Johnson and Diane Ravago were both 2-3 at the plate.

In game two the Crimson Wave took a 7-3 loss.  Abigail Nelsen struck out five in the loss.  An Abrego home run in the second gave CCSJ their first run.  In the sixth inning the Crimson Wave scored two on a Pabey RBI and Abrego single. Abrego and Johnson were both 2-3 at the plate.  

Softball Splits With SXU

4/19/12 – The Crimson Wave softball team split tonight with the St. Xavier University Cougars tonight at home in a CCAC doubleheader. The Crimson Wave are now 25-22 and 13-5 overall.

In game one the Crimson Wave took a 2-1 win in extra innings.  Alex Latronica grabbed the win on the mound with 9 strikeouts.  The Cougars grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning of play.  CCSJ tied the game in the 6th on a Samantha Abrego single that scored Lauren Johnson.   The game remained tied until the bottom of the 9th when Abrego hit a walk off homerun to give CCSJ a 2-1 victory.

Abrego and Johnson were both 2-4 with a run scored.  Abrego added two RBI’s.

In game two CCSJ lost 4-2.  Abigail Nelsen took the loss on the mound.  SXU again jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning.  CCSJ answered back in the third taking a 2-1 lead.  A Sophie Kessler triple scored Abrego, followed by an Amanda Rivera RBI that scored Kessler.  The Cougars would score three runs in the fourth to take the victory.

Wilcox and Diane Ravago were each 1-2 at the plate.

The Crimson Wave will travel to Grace College tomorrow for a 12:00 pm doubleheader.

Softball Splits With Fighting Saints

4/17/12 – The Crimson Wave softball team split today with the University of St. Francis Fighting Saints in Joliet, IL in a CCAC doubleheader.  The Crimson Wave are now 24-21 overall and 12-4 in the CCAC.

The Crimson Wave won game won easily as they beat the Fighting Saints 12-6.  Alex Latronica took the win for CCSJ striking out four and facing 32 batters. The Fighting Saints scored first grabbing a 3-0 lead in the bottom of one.  The Crimson Wave answered right back with four runs in the top of two to take a one run lead.  An Amanda Rivera single scored Samantha Abrego for the first run of the inning.  The next two CCSJ runs would come on Fighting Saint errors with Brittany Renninger grabbing the last RBI when Rivera scored.

The third inning brought two more CCSJ runs and a 6-3 lead.  Caitlin Wilcox hit a two run homer for bringing in Abrego.   A Wilcox single in the fifth inning of play scoring Jessica Pabey made it a four run CCSJ advantage.  Amanda Gutierrez hit an RBI single in the sixth scoring Diane Ravago to extend the lead to 8-3.   The Fighting Saints scored their final three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but it wasn’t enough as the Crimson Wave sealed the game in the top of seven with four more runs. 

A Ravago RBI single followed by a two RBI single from Gutierrez put the Crimson Wave up 11-6. 
Pabey had a fielder’s choice RBI to score Lauren Johnson to give the Crimson Wave a 12-6 victory.
The Crimson Wave were led by a 2-3 performance with three RBI’s and two runs from Wilcox along with a 3-5 performance from Pabey.  Rivera and Ravago were both 2-4 with two runs and an RBI each. 

In game two the Crimson Wave took a 9-0 loss.  Abigail Nelsen took the loss on the mound for CCSJ.  Abrego was 2-3 at the plate.

The Crimson Wave will be back in action on Thursday April 19th when they host St. Xavier University in a 3:00 pm CCAC doubleheader.

Softball Comes Up a Run Short

4/14/12 – The Crimson Wave softball team came up a run short today against the St. Joseph’s College Pumas in Rensselaer, IN.

The Pumas score first in the in bottom of the first inning.   The Crimson Wave tied the game at one when Amanda Rivera stole home in the top of the fifth inning.  The game remained tied at one until the bottom of the seventh inning when a Puma single drove in the winning run giving CCSJ a 2-1 loss.
The second game of the doubleheader was cancelled due to rain.

The Crimson Wave were led by 1-3 appearance at the plate from Amanda Gutierrez.

CCSJ will travel to the University of St. Francis on April 17th for a 3:00 pm CCAC doubleheader.

Softball Ends Winning Streak

4/10/12 – The Crimson Wave softball team ended an 11 game winning streak today with two losses to conference opponent the Olivet Nazarene University Tigers 7-3 and 7-1. 

In game one the Crimson Wave kept it close scoring first in the second inning when Sophie Kessler scored after a double to right center field.  After three runs between two innings for the Tigers the Crimson Wave found themselves behind 3-1.  In the top of the fourth inning Amanda Rivera doubled to score Diane Ravago.    Four runs in the fifth and sixth innings for the Tigers gave ONU a 7-2 lead.   CCSJ scored their last run of the game in the seventh inning on a Caitlin Wilcox home run.  Kessler was 1-1 at the plate while Wilcox was 1-3 with two RBI’s and a run scored  and teammate Lauren Johnson was 2-4.  Alex Latronica took the loss on the mound.

In game two the Crimson Wave took a 7-1 loss scoring their only run of the game in the first inning when Kessler hit a single to left center scoring Johnson.  Kessler was 1-3 at the plate.  Abigail Neslen took the loss on the mound.

The Crimson Wave are now 21-19 overall and 9-3 in the CCAC.  CCSJ will travel to Purdue North Central on Thursday April 12th for a 3:00 pm CCAC doubleheader.

Softball hits 11 in Mid Season Streak

4/9/12 – The Crimson Wave softball team has won 11 games in a row after a doubleheader win over Cardinal Stritch University on Thursday April 5th.  The Crimson Wave are currently 21-17 overall and 9-1 in the CCAC.

The Crimson Wave currently in second place in the CCAC will take on Olivet Nazarene University tomorrow at the 3:00 pm on their home field.  The Tigers from ONU are currently 14th in the NAIA Coaches Poll. 

On Thursday the Crimson Wave will take on Purdue North Central in Michigan City, IN at 3:00 pm and will travel to Rennsselaer, IN on Saturday for a double header with St. Joseph’s College.   

Softball Grabs Two Comeback Wins

4/3/12 – The Crimson Wave softball team has extended their winning streak to 9 games as they swept CCAC opponent the Judson University Eagles tonight in a doubleheader at home.  The Crimson Wave, move to 19-17 overall and 7-1 in the CCAC putting them in second place.

The Crimson Wave fell behind early in game trailing 4-0 after the top of the 4th.   The Crimson Wave scored their first two runs of the game in the bottom of four on a Sophie Kessler home run that scored Samantha Abrego.   In the bottom of the 6th inning the Crimson Wave scored three runs on four hits led by singles from Caitlin Wilcox and Caitlyn Black to take a 5-4 lead.   Judson grabbed a quick run in the top of to tie the game at 5 apiece and send it into extra innings.

In the top of the 8th inning the Eagles managed to take a 6-5 lead.  The Crimson Wave answered right back with two runs.  Wilcox doubled to left to put the tying run on base.   A Lauren Johnson triple to right center scored Wilcox tying the game at 6.  Amanda Gutierrez hit a single to the middle of the infield scoring Johnson for a 7-6 win.  Cassie Mills grabbed the win for CCSJ.  Kessler led the way going 3-4 with two RBI’s and a run scored.

Game two started as a repeat for the Crimson Wave as they again fell behind as Judson scored a single runs in both the 3rd and 5th innings.  CCSJ put their first run on the board with a Jessica Pabey sacrifice that scored Johnson.   The top of the 7th inning brought 5 more Eagle runs and a 7-1 deficit for the Crimson Wave.

CCSJ would again show their resilience as they worked their way back in the bottom of 7.  Jessica Miles opened the inning for CCSJ with a double to center field.   Wilcox reached base on an error by the Eagles short stop that scored Miles for their first run.  Back to back singles from Black and Johnson scored Diane Ravago who pinch ran for Wilcox and put two more runners in scoring positions.   Gutierrez singled loading the bases.   A Pabey single to center field scored both Black and Johnson to cut the deficit to three.  An Abrego single scored Gutierrez putting the winning run on base.  Kacey Amendola entered the game to pinch run for Abrego.  A Rivera walked scored Pabey and tied the game at 7 all.   Wilcox was hit by a pitch sending Amendola home for a 8-7 comeback win.

Mills again grabbed the win on the mound.  Gutierrez and Johnson both went 2-4 at the plate.  Johnson added an RBI and two runs while Gutierrez added an RBI. 

The Crimson Wave will travel to Cardinal Stritch University on Thursday April 5th for a 3:00 pm CCAC doubleheader. 

Softball Sweeps Trojans at Home

3/29/12 – The Crimson Wave softball team swept the Trinity International University Trojans tonight in a CCAC doubleheader at home.  The Crimson Wave improve to 15-17 overall and 5-1 in the CCAC.

The Crimson Wave took game one 6-2.  CCSJ opened the game taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Samantha Abrego sacrifice fly scoring Kacey Amendola.  The second inning brought two more Calumet runs.  Caitlin Wilcox hit a two run homer in left field scoring Diane Ravago. 

The third inning brought a 4-0 lead with a Jessica Pabey RBI double.    The Trojans finally answered back with two runs in the top of the fourth.  CCSJ matched those two runs with two of their own.  An Amanda Gutierrez sacrifice scored Caitlyn Black while Lauren Johnson scored on an error.   Alex Latronica took the win on the mound with three strikeouts.  Gutierrez was 2-2 at the plate with a run and an RBI.  Johnson finished the game 2-3 with a run scored.

In game two the Crimson Wave took a 14-5 win.  CCSJ took a 3-0 lead in inning one when Sophie Kessler drove in the first two runs and Ravago the third.  The Trojans kept themselves in the game with two runs in the top of the second inning.  In the bottom of the second Brittany Renninger scored on a Trojan error while Gutierrez drove in Johnson for run two.  The Trojans scored three runs of their own in the top of three to tie the game at 5-5.

The Crimson Wave matched the Trojans when Jessica Miles hit a home run to open the bottom of the third.  Wilcox homered a batter later.  A Gutierrez sacrifice fly scoring Renninger closed the inning for an 8-5 lead.  CCSJ opened up the game in the fourth inning scoring six runs.  Abrego homered on the first pitch of the inning to set the tone.  Black hit an RBI single while Johnson had a two RBI triple just two batters later.   Kessler and Gutierrez both hit RBI doubles to give the Crimson Wave a 14-5 victory.

Gutierrez and Miles where both 2-3 at the plate with two runs scored while teammate Black was 2-2. Latronica took the win for CCSJ.   

The Crimson Wave will host Taylor University on Saturday March 31st at 1:00 pm.

Softball Sweeps TCC in CCAC Game

3/27/12 – The Crimson Wave softball team swept Trinity Christian College tonight in a CCAC doubleheader at home.  The Crimson Wave are now 13-17 overall and 3-1 in CCAC play.

The Crimson Wave took a 1-0 win in game behind Cassie Mills and a save from Abigail Nelsen.  The game’s only run came in the 6th inning after Jessica Pabey reached base on a fielder’s choice and then advanced to second on an error by the TCC shortstop.  Diane Ravago singled to left field bringing in Pabey for a 1-0 lead.   The Crimson Wave held off the Trolls in the seventh inning for the victory.

Kacey Amendola and Lauren Johnson were both 1-2 at the plate. 

In game two the Crimson Wave took an easy 14-3 win in five innings.  Alex Latronica was the winning pitcher with two strikeouts.  The majority of the Crimson Wave scoring came in the 1st inning as the ladies brought in 11 runs on 10 hits.  Sophie Kessler led the way hitting a two run homer scoring Samantha Abrego and Amanda Gutierrez.  After returning to the plate later in the inning Kessler hit her second two run homer bringing in Abrego and Gutierrez again. 

The Crimson Wave scored two more runs in the second inning with a Johnson RBI and a Gutierrez double to center field. The final CCSJ run came in the fourth inning as Abrego singled to center field scoring Johnson.

The Crimson Wave were led by Abrego and Johnson who were both 3-3 at the plate.  Abrego had four RBI’s and 2 runs scored while Johnson had 3 runs scored and one RBI.  Kessler was 2-4 with 2 runs scored and 6 RBI’s.

The Crimson Wave will host Trinity International University on March 29th at 3:00 pm.

Ladies Split in Indianapolis

3/24/12 – The Crimson Wave softball team split with the Marian College Knights today in Indianapolis, IN.  CCSJ is now 11-17 overall on the season.

The Crimson Wave took a 3-0 loss in game behind Alex Latronica on the mound.  Latronica faced 24 batters earning three strikeouts.  Diane Ravago was 2-3 at the plate.

In game two the Crimson Wave took a 5-3 with Latronica getting the win.  The Crimson Wave’s first run came in the second inning after Sophie Kessler double brought in Samantha Abrego.  The third inning brought two more Crimson Wave runs behind an Abrego double that drove Jessica Miles and Amanda Gutierrez.  After being tied at the end of seven, 3-3, the Crimson Wave scored two runs in the eight for the win.  Kessler doubled to left field scoring Abrego and Lauren Johnson.

Abrego led CCSJ going 3-3 with two runs and two RBI’s.  Gutierrez was 2-2 with a run scored.
 
The Crimson Wave ladies will host Trinity Christian College Tuesday March 27th in a 3:00 pm CCAC game.     

Softball Splits Conference Opener

3/22/12 – The Crimson Wave softball team split their first conference doubleheader of the season today against Robert Morris University in Bensenville, IL.

The Crimson Wave took a 1-0 win in game.  Alex Latronica pitched all seven innings earning two strikeouts after facing 24 batters.  The game’s only run came in the third inning after, a Lauren Johnson single and steal gave the Crimson Wave a runner in scoring position.  Amanda Gutierrez drove a ball to center field bringing in Johnson.  Johnson was 2-3 with a run scored.

In game two the Crimson Wave took a 2-0 loss.  Abigail Nelsen took the loss on the mound for CCSJ.  Johnson, Caitlin Black and Jessica Miles were all 1-2 at the plate.

The Crimson Wave will travel to Indianapolis, IN this Saturday for a doubleheader at Marian University. 

Softball Sweeps Goshen in Home Opener

3/20/12 - The Crimson Wave softball team swept Goshen College today in their home opening doubleheader.

The Crimson Wave ladies took a 5-0 win in game one.  Alex Latronica took the win on the mound grabbing three strikeouts.  The Crimson Wave grabbed the early lead in the first inning when Samantha Abrego hit a two run double scoring Diane Ravago and Jessica Pabey.  An inning later, Caitlin Wilcox hit a two run homer bringing Brittany Renninger.    The Crimson Wave scored their final run in the sixth inning as Wilcox flied out to center field scoring Ashley Bryant.  Renninger was 2-2 at the plate with a run scored while Wilcox was 1-3 with a run scored and three RBI’s.  

In game two the Crimson Wave took the win 8-2.  Abigail Nelson grabbed the win on the mound for CCSJ.  Calumet went up 3-0 in the first inning as Abrego drove in three runs on a single.   In the second inning Jessica Miles brought in two RBI’s while Abrego scored to give CCSJ a 6-0 lead.  Goshen scored a single run in the top of the 6th.  In the bottom of six CCSJ scored their final two runs as Pabey singled to left scoring Caitlyn Black. Wilcox flied out scoring Lauren Johnson for the final run.

Johnson was 4-4 with 3 runs scored while teammate Black was 2-3 with 2 runs scored.

The Crimson Wave will travel to Robert Morris University on Thursday March 22nd for CCAC doubleheader at 4:00 pm.

Softball Drops Two in Final Day in Tucson

3/10/12 - The Crimson Wave softball team dropped their final two games of the Tucson Invitational today to William Penn University and Coe College.

The Crimson Wave took a 4-1 loss to William Penn in game.  Kacey Amendola led CCSJ going 1-2 at the plate with a run scored.  Caitlyn Black was 1-2 with an RBI driving in Amendola in the 2nd inning on a single to left field.  Alex Latronica took the loss on the mound with two strikeouts. 

In game two the Crimsons Wave took a loss to Coe College 6-1.  The Crimson wave were led by a 1-3 appearance at the plate from Amanda Gutierrez who also scored a run in the fourth inning off a Jessica Miles single to center field.  Miles was also 1-3 at the plate.  Abigail Nelson had three strikeouts taking the loss for CCSJ.

The Crimson Wave will return home to prepare for the Lindsey Wilson Invite on March 16th, 17th, and 18th.

Softball Takes Win Over Peru     

3/7/12 – The Crimson Wave softball team took a win over Peru State today at the Tucson Invitational in the second game of the day.  The Crimson Wave took a loss to Azusa Pacific in game one and Aquinas College in game 3.

The Crimson Wave opened the day with Azusa Pacific University taking a 7-4 loss.  Jessica Miles and Jessica Pabey each went 1-3 with one run and one RBI.  Alex Latronica took the loss on the mound with four strikeouts.

In game two the Crimson Wave beat Peru State University 4-2.  After getting behind 2-0 in the third inning the Crimson Wave answered back in the fourth inning with 3 hits and 3 runs.  Caitlyn Wilcox hit a home run driving in Samantha Abrego and Pabey.  CCSJ scored their final run in the fifth inning after a Lauren Johnson double set up an Amanda Rivera RBI.  Abigail Nelson grabbed the win for CCSJ with four strikeouts. 

In the final game of the day the Crimson Wave took a 4-3 loss to Aquinas College.  Amanda Gutierrez went 4-4 with a run Diane Ravago was 2-3 with a run.   Cassie Mills took the loss on the mound for CCSJ.

The Crimson Wave will have a day off and then face Viterbo, Iowa Wesleyan and Northwestern College on Friday March 9th in their final day of the Tucson Invitational.

Ladies Go 2-1 on the Day

3/6/12 – The Crimson Wave softball team went 2-1 on the day in the Tucson Invitational today.

The Crimson Wave took a 1-0 win over Siena Heights University today in the first game.  Jessica Pabey doubled in the 6th inning driving in Lauren JohnsonAlex Latronica took the win on the mound with 7 strikeouts for the ladies.

In game two the Crimson Wave took a 6-5 loss to Jamestown College despite 11 hits including a homerun by Jessica Miles.  Amanda Rivera was 3-4 with an RBI and a run. Abigail Nelson took the loss with three strikeouts. 

In the Crimson Wave’s final game of the day CCSJ took a 12-8 win over the University of Great Falls.  Diane Ravago led the ladies going 4-5 with 4 RBI’s and two runs including a 1st inning homerun that batted in Amanda Rivera.  The Crimson Wave opened the game up in the second inning when they scored 8 runs on 9 hits.  Samantha Abrego and Johnson were both 3-5 with an RBI and a run.  Pabey and Kacey Amendola were 2-2 at the plate while teammate Caitlin Black was 1-2 with two RBI’s and a run.  Amanda Gutierrez went 2-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.  Cassie Mills took the in on the mound with Latronica grabbing the save. 

The Crimson Wave are 3-5 overall and will be back in action at the Tucson Invitational on March 7th.   

Crimson Wave Open Season in Tucson

3/5/12 – The Crimson Wave softball team has opened their season this weekend at the Tucson Invitational in Tucson, AZ.  The Crimson Wave have started their season 1-4.

In their first game of the season CCSJ took a loss to South Oregon University 9-1.  Diane Ravago and Jessica Pabey each had two hits in the loss.  The Crimson Wave took a 4-2 loss in their second game to Concordia University Irvine.  Pabey again had two hits for the ladies with Amanda Gutierrez grabbing two RBI’s.

In game three Calumet took a 9-3 loss to Jamestown University. Amanda Rivera had two hits and Caitlin Black had three RBI’s.

The Crimson Wave took their first win of the season over Aquinas College 5-3.  Samantha Abrego had one hit one run and three RBI’s.  Sophie Kessler had a hit and an RBI in the win.  Alex Latronica took the win on the mound for the ladies with five strikeouts. 
The Crimson Wave took a 7-0 loss in the fifth game to William Penn University.

The Crimson Wave will be back in action at the Tucson Invitational on Tuesday March 6th at 12:00 pm.

Crimson Wave Participate in Alzheimer’s Walk

9/22/11 - This past weekend, the Crimson Wave Crimson Wavevolleyball and softball teams participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer's at Hidden Lake Park in Merrillville, IN. The girls raised over $450 in donations for the Alzheimer's Association and the fight to end this horrific disease effecting so many people today.

“This was a great experience for the girls to get out and be a part of something bigger than even their team. They got to join in the fight to cure a disease that affects millions of loved ones all over the world." Said Head Coach Stephanie Zimny
