Public Safety Management Requirements

The Degree Completion Programs offers time shortened baccalaureate degrees for mid-career professionals in the fields of Organization Management, Healthcare Management and Law Enforcement Management. Completion of a baccalaureate degree in a particular field of study requires satisfaction of requirements in both the major field of study and in general education.
General education requirements for divisional programs are set forth as eight core abilities. Each core ability reflects a determination by the faculty of what constitutes college level learning in a particular disciplinary area or related disciplinary areas.

The requirements contained in the eight core ability statements may be satisfied through a variety of routes. Many students will be able to apply previously completed course work to address core ability requirements. Certain core ability requirements may be satisfied, in whole or in part, through completion of course work in the major field of study.

Students should contact the Degree Completion Program Academic Advisor for information concerning the core ability requirements, and the various methods that may be employed to satisfy the requirements.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants for admission to a Bachelor of Science Degree in the Degree Completion Program will be expected to present evidence that they have fulfilled the following requirements:

1. Completion of the Degree Completion Application for Admission form.
2. An earned Associate' s degree from a regionally accredited post- secondary institution, or a minimum of 52 semester hours of credit earned at one or more regionally accredited post- secondary institutions.
3. A recommended cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale for all previously completed course work at the post- secondary level.
4. Successful completion of Admission Testing if an applicant:

   a. has fewer than 52 semester hours, or
   b. has a cumulative grade point average of less than 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, or
   c. has not passed a credited English course with a grade of C" or better.

   If applicants do not successfully complete the admissions test on the first attempt, they are invited to retest. If the admissions test is not successfully completed a second time, applicants are not
   allowed entry to the program until a supplemental English course has been passed and the admission test is successfully completed.

5. Submission of official transcript for all post-secondary course work.
6. Demonstration of an established method of financing for their educational goals either through financial aid, tuition reimbursement, a payment plan set up with the Business Office,
   or a combination of the above.

Exceptions to these requirements are occasionally permitted. An applicant may petition the director of the Degree Completion program he or she is interested in joining, and an ad-hoc committee consisting of the Director of the Division, the Director of the program, the Academic Advisory, and the Admissions Counselor will review all submitted material and will render a final decision.

Continuation in the Program

Students who fail to maintain a 2.0 or better grade point average may be subject to academic penalties including placement on probation or dismissal from the degree completion program.

Graduation Requirement

1. Successfully complete all 14 courses in the Degree Completion Programs with a GPA of 2.0 or above.
2. Fulfill all requirements including having a minimum of 52 accredited traditional credit hours. The 52 credit hours can either be transferred in or completed as part of your Calumet College program and must include each of the following areas:

   a. English Composition
   b. College Math
   c. Speech (Competency Evaluation available contact Academic Advisor for details)
   d. History
   e. Humanities
   f. Science
   g. Social Science
   h. Computer Literacy (Competency Evaluation available contact Academic Advisor for details)

3. Earn a total of at least 124 college credit hours.

A Second Bachelor' s Degree

Students who hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution may earn a second Bachelor' s degree. Students will be individually advised concerning this option.

Experiential Learning

Calumet College of St. Joseph recognizes that learning can take place outside of the traditional classroom setting. Accordingly, students may earn college credit by examination and/ or the submission of a detailed experiential learning portfolio. A maximum of thirty semester hours of credit may be earned through the submission of an experiential learning portfolio. In total, a student may not earn more than forty-five semester hours of academic credit toward a Bachelor of Science degree through a combination of examinations and the experiential learning portfolio.
