Mission Statement of the Communication & Journalism Program

Communications
Based on the premise that communication is a foundational aspect of society, the B.A. in Communication is designed for students to acquire knowledge about effective interaction with others in a variety of environments. During the program, students will explore fields such as: advertising, public relations, and other forms of persuasive professional communication activity. Upon matriculation, students will be equipped to work in various arenas including public relations, business, industry, education, government, media outlets and nonprofit or charitable organizations.

Journalism
Considering the history and global context of journalism in the 21st century, the B.A in Journalism is designed for students to acquire knowledge about writing, reporting and critical thinking. The skills of newspaper and electronic journalism go hand-in-hand with study in the liberal arts and sciences. During the program, students will explore fields such as: publishing, public relations, marketing, and other areas that require critical thinking and writing skills. Upon matriculation, students will be equipped to work in various arenas including: newspapers, TV, radio, online media, magazines, and related categories in the US and abroad. Lastly, the Journalism degree provides an excellent foundation for those going into graduate studies, law school, or library science.
