Missions & Vision Statement of the Education Program
The Education Program of Calumet College of St. Joseph supports the general educational mission of the College to prepare a diverse student body for professional careers and graduate education. Guided by a Catholic vision of social justice, the Education Program empowers teacher candidates to improve their personal lives and to create a more equitable society. The Education Program seeks to implement educational experiences for its teacher candidates and professional educators that reflect current educational theory and best practice in the profession pertaining to the developmental stages of:
- Professional preparation;
- Continuous and critical reflection; and
- Ongoing personal and professional transformation.
The Education Program prepares teacher candidates to become effective professional educators of P-12 students and provides licensed teachers with ongoing professional development. They will help transform the community by:
- Preparing students to master the knowledge and skills required to meet state educational standards;
- Fostering in students critical reflective thinking skills; and
- Encouraging students to work towards personal transformation and to be change agents for the just transformation of society.
