Human Services Requirements
Degrees Offered
The Human Services Program offers a B.S. in Human Services with concentrations in Social Services and Counseling. All Counseling Concentrators complete a Core Counseling Curriculum. Counseling students may select a counseling specialty in Bereavement Counseling, Chemical Dependency Counseling, Pastoral Counseling, or, with the approval of the Program Director, another area of interest to the student. Social Service concentrators who wish to take counseling courses as electives should consult with the Program Director for advising.
The Human Services Program offers certified alcohol and drug abuse counselors the opportunity to complete the Chemical Dependency Counseling Specialty as an Accelerated Degree for Certified Non-Degreed Addictions Professionals (ADCAP). To be eligible for admission to the ADCAP program, students must have state and/or national certification in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counseling and a minimum of 2000 hours of professional experience in the field. Students interested in the ADCAP should contact the Director of the Human Services Program for more information.

Distance Education in the Human Services Program
In order to assist students with the time and space barriers frequently encountered by working adults, the Human Services Program offers a number of hybrid courses. These courses are indicated in the course list above.
The Certificate in Bereavement Counseling:
The following sequence of courses has been approved by the American Academy of Grief Counselors as meeting the requirements for National Certification as a Grief Counselor: HSV 305, 310, 312, 355, 357 and 496 (Bereavement Practicum). Students who complete this program apply directly to the Academy for certification. For more information log on to. Students who complete the three course sequence in bereavement counseling will, upon request, be issued a certificate of completion
