MINORS AT CCSJ

PLEASE NOTE: SOME COURSES MAY REQUIRE ONE OR MORE PREREQUISITES

A minor in Accounting requires ACC 210, 211, and 225; Choice of the following tracks depending on interest: ACC 300 and 301 (financial track), or ACC 450 and 451 (taxation) or ACC 300 and 331 (Management Accounting) or ACC 415 and 496 Government & Non-Profit.

A minor in Business Management requires BUS 220, 300, 320, 375, and ECN 210.

A minor in Computer Information Systems requires 12 hours in upper-level computer courses, including six credit hours in high-level procedural languages, at least three of which must be in Visual Basic.NET or "C." Students who have completed a six-hour sequence in FORTRAN, PASCAL or PL/1 should confer with the program director about this requirement.

A minor in Communication requires COM 111, 200, and three upper-level electives.
A minor in Organizational Communication requires COM 111, 200, 300, 310, and 345.
A minor in Sports Communication requires COM 200, 311, 312, 313, 370, and 371.

A minor in Criminal Justice requires CRJ 100 and 12 hours in upper-level CRJ courses.

A minor in English requires (15 credit hours in upper-level courses or in combination with two of the following: 260, 261, 270, 271). ***Education students looking to have an English minor for teaching high school must take History of the English Language (ENG 320) as required by the state.***
A minor in Creative Writing requires (15 credit hours, combining 12 in upper-level Creative Writing sequence (430-433) and 3 from either upper-level literature or journalism sequence.
A minor in Journalism requires (15 credit hours with 9 in Journalism writing courses and 6 in other Journalism courses (e.g. Ethics).

A minor in General Studies requires 12 upper-level hours chosen from at least two disciplines, except Education.

A minor in Human Services requires 24 semester hours of course work distributed as follows: 6 hrs of prerequisite courses or substitutions approved by the Program Director and 18 hours of upper-level courses that support the declared minor. The two Prerequisite Courses are selected from the following courses: HSV 100, 200 or 230, 220, 250 and 255.
Human Services: No Concentration: 6 upper-level HSV courses.
Social Services/Case Management: HSV 317, 319, 347, 360, 405, 430.
Social Services/Community Organizing: HSV 315, 358, 405, 413 and two approved electives.
Counseling-No Specialization: HSV 305, 310, 400, 405, 420 and 430.
Bereavement Counseling: HSV 305, 310, 312, 355, 357 and 400.
Chemical Dependency Counseling: HSV 200, 230, 305, 310, 328, 405, 420 and 430.

A minor in Humanities requires 12 hours in upper-level courses chosen from English, Media and Fine Arts, Philosophy and Religious Studies.

A minor in Media and Fine Arts requires MFA 280, 281 and 12 hours in upper-level MFA courses.

A minor in Paralegal Studies requires PAR 100, 200, 201, and 6 hours in upper-level PAR courses.

A minor in Psychology requires PSY 100, 210, 230, 260, 9 hours in upper-level PSY courses and CIS 115.

A minor in Religious Studies requires RST 110 or 210, 130, 330 or 331, 350, and 370.

A minor in Social Sciences requires SSC/ECN 480, SSC/HST 324 or SSC/HST 431, SSC/PLS 312 or SSC/PLS 421,
SSC/PSY 320 and SSC/SOC 316 or SSC/SOC 350. Students may also pursue a minor in one of three areas of the social
sciences: Political Science (PLS), Psychology (PSY), or Sociology (SOC). Students must complete 15 upper-level hours
in one of the areas to receive that minor.
