Other Requirements

B.S. in Computer Information Systems:

The following courses are required for a major in Computer Information Systems:

    1. All students majoring in Computer Information Systems are required to take CIS 125, CIS 210, CIS 221, CIS 253, and CIS 255. These are prerequisites for all other Computer Information Systems courses;

    2. Thirty-three upper-level CIS credit hours:
      CIS 321 C++ Programming II
      CIS 310 Visual Basic .Net II
      CIS 265 Hardware and Software Concepts
      CIS 275 Database Management
      CIS 230 Systems Analysis and Design
      CIS 240 Data Commuications and Networking
      CIS 350 Distributed Applications I
      CIS 351 Distributed Applications II
      CIS 450 Enterprise Applications
      CIS 340 Computer Security
      CIS 499 Senior Seminar
    3. Other requirements are Business Management 220, Math 160, Psychology 230, and Business Management 300 (or Accounting 210-211).

B.S. in Management Information Systems

The Accelerated Program in Management Information Systems offers time shortened baccalaureate degrees for mid-career professionals. Completion of this baccalaureate degree requires satisfaction of requirements in both the major field of study and in general education.

  1. The following courses that compose the major field of study are listed below:

    ORMN 431 Business Mathematics
    CIS 333 Software Development
    ORMN 405 Dynamics of Organizational Behavior
    CIS 335 Relational Database Systems
    CIS 338 Planning, Acquisition and Control of Information Systems
    CIS 431 Networking and Telecommunications
    CIS 434 IT Project Management
    CIS 437 Electronic Commerce and the Internet
    ORMN 445 Essentials of Accounting and Finance for Managers
    CIS 441 Security and Disaster Recovery
    ORMN 443 Supervisory Management
    CIS 443 Decision Support and Expert Systems
    PAR 350 The Law of Contracts

  2. General education requirements for academic programs are set forth as eight core abilities. Each core ability reflects a determination by the faculty of what constitutes college level learning in a particular disciplinary area or related disciplinary areas.

    English Composition
    College Math
    Speech
    History
    Humanities
    Science
    Social Science
    Computer Literacy

    The requirements contained in the eight core ability statements may be satisfied through a variety of routes. Many students will be able to apply previously completed course work to address core ability requirements. Certain core ability requirements may be satisfied, in whole or in part, through completion of course work in the major field of study.

  3. Students should contact the Accelerated Program academic advisor for information concerning the core ability requirements, and the various methods that may be employed to satisfy the requirements.

A.S. in Computer Information Systems:

The following courses are required for a major in Computer Information Systems:

    1. Computer Information Systems 125, 255, 225, 251 (or CIS 252 or CIS 253)

    2. Computer Information Systems 210, 221, 230, 265, and 275

    3. Other requirements are Math 160 or Economics 150.

A.S. in Computer Information Applications:

The following courses are required for a major in Computer Information Applications:

    1. Computer Information Systems 125, 225, 251, 252, 253 and 255

    2. Computer Information Systems 210, 221, 275, 496

    3. Another requirement is Math 160 or Economics 150.

Certificate in Business Data Processing:

The following courses are required for a Certificate in Business Data Processing:

    1. Computer Information Systems 125, 250, 255, 210 or 221, and 230.

    2. Other requirements are Business Management 220, any 6 hours from Computer Information Systems courses, and any 6 hours from Accounting or Business Management courses.

The following courses (in the outlined sequence) are required for a Diploma in Networking Systems:

    1. CIS 2151, CIS 2152, CIS 2153, CIS 2154, CIS 1561, CIS 2010, CIS 2150, CIS 1562

Minor in Computer Information Systems:

The requirements for a minor sequence in Computer Information Systems are six hours chosen from the following courses: CIS 210, CIS 221, CIS 310, CIS 321, plus six additional hours chosen from other Computer Information Systems courses.

Second Degree in Computer Information Systems:

The following courses are required to receive a second degree in Computer Information Systems: Computer Information Systems 125, 210, 221, 230, 240, 253, 265, 275, Business Management 300, plus six additional hours chosen from Computer Information Systems courses (total hours required: 33).

Other Requirements:

All Computer Information Systems majors must fulfill the General Education requirements listed in the General Education Program in this catalogue as well as other requirements for the appropriate certificate or degree (see General Education requirements). Computer Information Systems majors must take Math 103 or 104 to fulfill the general education requirements.
