1. 46 hours: General Education
2. 30 hours: Major

Com 370 Video Production
Com 420 Ethics and Law in Journalism
Com 475 Basic Digital Photo
Com 494 Applied Communication
Com 495 Internship

3. 15 hours: Minor
A minor in Communication requires: Com 111, Com 200, four upper level courses.
A minor in Organizational Communication requires: Com 111, Com 200, Com 300, Com 310.

Communication Program Competencies

1. Students will understand the fundamental principles of communication.

2. Students will understand, evaluate, and apply major theories of interpersonal, small group, public and mass communication.

3. Students will understand and evaluate the cultural, social and economic role of the mass media in contemporary American society.

4. Students will analyze and apply major theories of public discourse

5. Students will apply their knowledge of cultural differences to solve particular problems.

6. Students will evaluate the political problems raised by free speech in a democratic society.

7. Students will their knowledge of the communication field to real world situations.

8. Student will synthesize knowledge of the communication field.

9. Students will understand and evaluate major theories of organization and their internal and external structures.

10. Students will integrate theories of communication with theories of organization.

11. Students will analyze and evaluate group roles and leadership roles.

12. Students will demonstrate an ability to differentiate between different group and leadership roles, and how those differences impact group interactions.
