TRANSITION TO TEACHING

About Transition to Teaching

Calumet College of St. Joseph’s Transition to Teaching is an alternative route to receiving a teaching license. This program provides people who currently possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and are already skilled in their specialty the opportunity to make a smooth, efficient transition to the education profession.

Admission Requirements

Candidates must have a minimum of the following for consideration:

  • Attend information session
  • CCSJ acceptance
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3.0 G.P.A. or 2.5 G.P.A. w/ five years experience related to degree major
  • Pass Praxis I
  • Transcript review
  • Pass interview process
  • Limited Criminal History Clearance
  • Current resume
  • Two letters of recommendation

Program Overview

Required Pre-Course Activities:

  • Eight (8) hour orientation seminar
  • Required reading assignments and discussions (3 books)

Course Requirements:

  • 18 credit hours for Secondary Education
  • 24 credit hours for Elementary Education
  • Two-credit hour courses
  • Three Saturdays per course
  • Courses are scheduled in conjunction with field and clinical experience
  • Maintain a 3.0 G.P.A.
  • Maintain professional knowledge, skills, and disposition

Student Teaching Requirements:

  • Twelve (12) Weeks
  • Current documents (Refer to Education Handbook)
  • Successful completion of
    • Required courses
    • Praxis II
    • Reading Specialist (Elementary)
    • Electronic Professional Portfolio
