ENGLISH AND PROFESSIONAL WRITING PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENT The English and Professional Writing Program offers a B.A. in English and Professional Writing with three concentrations: Literature/Education, Journalism, and Creative Writing. Its general education courses develop students’ abilities to write sustained, coherent essays and to discuss world literature in an incisive and analytical manner. The writing program is predicated on the workshop approach to writing. The English and Professional Writing program’s conceptual foundation is broadly based in the knowledge of great ideas and writings of the world in all literate ages. As a whole, the program reflects a deep commitment to social justice through its concern with students’ abilities to derive meaning and value from these great ideas and writings. It provides the students with the resources to analyze and reflect upon the human experience and give them the tools to speak with and write about the literary and ideological past with application to present problems.
