GENERAL EDUCATION PROGRAM

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's Degree | Associate's Degree

Calumet College of St. Joseph is phasing in a new competency-based General Education program. As of fall, 2001-2002 academic year, the General Education requirement is 43 credit hours with a college-wide 3 credit hour course in Social Justice required of all students. Students who start at Calumet College of St. Joseph in Fall 2001 or after, either as new or transferring students, are accepted under the new 43 + 3 credit hour program. Current students at Calumet College of St. Joseph may either continue under the 1988 General Education program or
transfer to the New/2001 General Education program. If current students wish to adopt the 2001 General Education program, then the courses they have already taken in General Education will be calibrated and matched to the 2001 General Education courses.

Baccalaureate Degree

The General Education Baccalaureate degree course requirements are as follows:

  • Computer Information Systems 115
  • English 103 and 104; 232, 233 or 234 (2 out of 3)
  • Media and Fine Arts 150, 200, 270
  • Mathematics 102
  • Philosophy 200
  • Psychology 110
  • Religious Studies 130; 110 or 210
  • Science 150
  • Urban Studies 200

Students who are completing their degree under the previous General Education program should consult with their academic advisors for appropriate course substitutions or for when those courses will be offered.


Associate's Degree

The General Education Associate Degree course requirements are as follows:

  • English 103 and 104; 232 or 233 or 234
  • Computer Information Systems 115
  • Mathematics 102
  • Media and Fine Arts 150
  • Psychology 110 or Urban Studies 200
  • Religious Studies 130; 110 or 210
  • Science 150

Students who are completing their degree under the previous General Education program should consult with their academic advisors for appropriate course substitutions or for when those courses will be offered.
