Course Description: As an introduction to the law of criminal procedures, this course provides guidelines for criminal justice professionals on legal aspects of police duties as well as understanding the reasons behind the rules. It covers such topics as arrest, search warrants, warrantless searches, and admissions, confessions and electronic surveillance
.

Statement of Plagiarism:
If an instructor or other Calumet College of St. Joseph personnel find that a student has plagiarized or been involved in another form of academic dishonesty, the instructor or other personnel may elect to bring the matter up for judicial review. Gain a thorough understanding of the general principles of criminal procedures and its effect and application in the trial process.
THERE WILL BE NO MAKE-UP EXAMS UNLESS APPROVED PRIOR TO ORIGINAL TEST DATE. NO EXCEPTIONS! MAKE-UP EXAMS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT.
Assessment:
Exams (Mid term, Final, Quizzes) 75% of Grade
Class participation/collaboration/attendance/assignments 25 % of Grade
Extra credit for trial attendance 3% of Grade
Class Participation: Attend and participate in all class discussions.
Class Assignments: Complete all reading and assigned homework before class. Quizzes over the assigned reading material may be given at any time.
