Class Policy for Assignments and Quizzes: Homework
assignments will be due at each class meeting, except for the first and last
class meetings. All homework will be corrected and returned within 2 weeks of
the DUE DATE. If a student is absent, the assignment due at the missed class
will be due at the next class meeting, along with that day’s assignment. A
weekly quiz will be given on the material covered in each homework assignment
on the day that the assignment is due.
Homework
assignments MUST be received NO LATER than 1 WEEK after the DUE DATE. If a
student is absent from 2 or more consecutive classes, he/she will still have to
hand in the homework within 1 week of the DUE DATE in order to get credit.
Quizzes missed due to absence MUST be made up at the following class meeting.
(An alternative form of the original quiz will be given.)
During the
semester, there will be a total of 13 homework assignments and 12 quizzes. In
calculating the student’s Course Grade, the 10 BEST homework scores and 9 BEST
quiz scores will be used. Quizzes or homework assignments that are not
completed/handed in on time (up to 3 in number) will be counted as LOWEST
SCORES and will be eliminated in calculating the Course Grade.
Grading Scale:
A: 92-100 A-: 90-91
B+: 88-89 B: 82-87
B-: 80-81 C+: 78-79
C: 72-77 C-: 70-71 FAILURE
- below 70
Class Policy on Attendance: Regular classroom
attendance is required. (In fact, experience with previous math classes has
shown that it is almost always the case that poor classroom attendance leads to
a poor or failing grade in the course. Take heed!) As mentioned under
Assessment, a student with MORE THAN 3 UNEXCUSED ABSENCES will FAIL THE COURSE.
Class Policy on Electronic Devices: (Cell phones, Beeper,
Pagers…etc.) Active
electronic devices will not be allowed in the classroom due to the disruptions
that they cause.

from the College. The procedures for judicial review are listed under the
section of CCSJ handbook that addresses student grievances. (Academic Planner

Withdrawal from Classes Policy:
After the last day for class changes has
passed (see College calendar), students may withdraw from a course in which
they are registered with permission from the faculty member conducting the
course. A written request detailing the reason(s) for the withdrawal must be
filed with the Registrar. Written request for withdrawal must be received by
the Registrar by the last day of classes prior to the final examination dates
specified in the catalogue. Written requests may be mailed to the Registrar or
faxed to the College fax number 219-473-4259. Students are to make note of the
refund schedule when withdrawing from courses. The request is forwarded to the
faculty member, who makes the final determination to accept or deny the
request. If the request is honored, the student will receive notification of
official withdrawal; if denied, the notification will indicate why the
withdrawal is disallowed.
An official withdrawal is recorded as a
"W" grade on the student's transcript. Dropping a course without
written permission automatically incurs an "F" grade for the course
(see Refund Schedule).
