COURSE DESCRIPTION:            Teacher candidate will examine major theories and findings concerning human development from birth through the elementary years and the implications of these for the professional educator.  Topics include physical development, intelligence, perception, language, socio-emotional development, gender role development, moral development, early experience and developmental issues relating to education.

 

PRE-REQUISITES:  ED 200, ED 210, ED 300.

 

PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVE:              The teacher candidate will gain knowledge and reflect about             the nature of children’s development, with emphasis on how development influences teaching/learning strategies.

 

RELATED INTASC PRINCIPLE (STANDARD):

The teacher understands how children and youth learn and develop and can provide learning opportunities that support their intellectual, social and personal development.
