Course
Description: This course provides an historical analysis of the
development of the United States as apolitical, social, and economic entity.
The course of our nations history will be charted from the War Between the
States to the present day. Emphasis will be given to the major defining events
that have shaped our nation in to the America we live in today. Also, the role
that America’s cultural and ethnic diversity has played in these defining
events will be examined in our readings. The experiences and parts played by
members of America’s diverse communities in climatic periods and in events such
as World War II will be investigated. The purpose of this examination is to
give students knowledge of major events in America’s past as well as a
perspective on the relation ship between these historical events and the
current events of the present.

Outcomes/ Competencies:
Students in this course will:

Explain & discuss some of the major events in
the history of the United States.

Briefly examine the roles various cultural &
ethnic groups played in these events.

Allows a student to gain an understanding of the
course materials through group activities, video presentations and
examinations.

Policy on Attendance: It is a serious matter when a student
misses even one session due to the accelerated format of the program. If the student misses more than one session,
the student is required to withdraw form the module by contacting the Academic
Advisor and their instructor. All students are required to attend class meetings,
read the assigned chapters/course materials, take all in class quizzes/final
examines, and participate in classroom activities & discussions.
