Course Time: Wednesdays 6:30-10:00 p.m.

Instructor will be present in classroom at least 20 minutes prior to beginning of class for assistance.

 

 

Course Description:  This course will introduce the student to the fundamentals of Web Page development by reviewing and using Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) editors and applications.

 

Prerequisite: CIS 255(CIS 125 and dos experience)

 

Learning outcomes and competencies:

            Students in this course will:

·        Create and Edit a web page using HTML

·        Create a Web site with Links

·        Create tables in a Web Site

·        Create an Image Map

·        Create Frames on a Web Page

·        Create Forms on a Web Page

·        Create their own Web Site

 

 

Textbook:  Html Second Edition (Reding/Vodnik) (ISBN#0-619-01880-1)

 

Learning Strategies: Course Learning strategies will include some lecturing with demonstration of HTML features, along with one on one assistance in a lab situation.

 

Assessment:

Test 1                          15% of grade

Test 2                          15% of grade

Capstone project 60% of grade

Attendance & Assignments  10% of grade

 

Class policy on Assignments:

All assignments must be labeled.  Assignments are due the week following assigned date.  All assignments including the CAPSTONE PROJECT are due by 8:00 p.m. on July 30, 2003

Class policy on attendance:  Students are expected to attend all classes.  Attendance will benefit the student on grades on the cusp.

 

Class policy on electronic devices:  All cell phones and pages should be silent.  Students may step out of the classroom in case of emergency to use their cell phone.

CAPSTONE PROJECT:

The capstone project will be done by each student and turned in on July 30.

This consists of your own web page, designed by you, put together by you and coded by you.  It must consist of the main web page and two linked pages (all of which you have performed the work for) It may be on any subject (within reason) and contain any amount of graphics or pictures, tables etc.  The main purpose of this class is to teach you HTML and how to work within it, with or without program assistance.   

 

 

Class Participation: Is not necessary, but is greatly encouraged

 

Center for Academic Excellence:

Tutoring assistance is free to all students of Calumet College of St. Joseph.  Call the Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) to make an appointment at 473-4287. The Center has experienced and well-trained tutors in most subject areas to help students who are struggling in a course of who are doing well and would like to do better.  Regular weekly tutoring sessions are likely to improve your grade.

 

Statement of Plagiarism:

If an instructor of other Calumet College of St. Joseph personnel find that a student has plagiarized or has been involved in another form of academic dishonesty, the instructor or other personnel may elect to bring the matter up for judicial review.  The maximum penalty for any form of academic dishonest is dismissal from the College.  The procedures for judicial review are listed under the section of CCSJ handbook that addresses student grievances.

 

Citation Guidelines:

Calumet College of St. Joseph adheres to citation guidelines as prescribed by the particular discipline (i.e., MLA.APA, and Chicago Manual of Style or Turban.)  All of these guidelines are available in the Calumet College of St. Joseph library or bookstore.  These texts outline how to cite references from a variety of sources, including electronic media.

 

Withdrawal from Classes Policy:

After the last day for class changes has passed, students may withdraw from a course in which they are registered with permission from the faculty member conduction the course.  A written request detailing the reason(s) for the withdrawal must be filed with the Registrar.  The Registrar must receive written request for withdrawal by the last day of classes prior to the final examination dates specified in the catalogue.  Written requests may be mailed to the Registrar of faxed to the College Fax number 219-473-4259.  Students are to make note of the refund schedule when withdrawing from courses.  The request is forwarded to the faculty member, who makes the final determination to accept or deny the request.  If the request is honored, the student will receive notification of official withdrawal; if denied, the notification will indicate why the withdrawal is disallowed.  Note: Degree completion division (DCD) students should consult the DCD Student Handbook for information on DCD withdrawals.

 

An official withdrawal is recorded as a “W” grade on the student’s transcript.  Dropping a course without written permission automatically incurs and “F” grade for the course (see refund schedule.)
