Assessment:  Students wil be evaluated by the instructor on class attendence, class participation and

discussion, quizzes, and satisfactory completion of assignments.  Grades will be assigned on the basis

of classroom participation, attendance, and work performed on quizzes and written assignments.

Grading Scale:

Students will be assigned a final grade in this course using the following point values:

Quality Points

                                                A = 90-100points

                                                B = 80-89 points

                                                C = 70-79 points

                                                D = 60-69 points

Format for Written Assignments:

All written assignments, where possible, will comply with the standards set forth in the American Psychological Association Guidelines, as adapted for the APA Publication Manual, 4th edition.  Written assignments will be typed, double-spaced and must be 15 point type face to be more legible to the instructors.  A written assignment will be due on the fifth week of class and will be worth 15 percent (15%)

of the total course grade.  The student will submit a 5-10 page paper with specific recommendations for

reorganizing the Chicago Police Department by eliminating at least two of the five Bureaus, eliminating at least one level of exempt rank, and eliminating at least one sworn rank below the rank of Commander.  A justification for the reorganization and the rationale for eliminating the ranks selected by the student will be required.

Class Policy on Attendance: Prompt and complete attendence in class is absolutely essential.  Students must be prepared to make up for absences from class by preparing scheduled assignments in advance and consulting with the instructor on materials to be covered during that period of absence.

Students who are more than thirty minutes late for class without an acceptable excuse will be deemed to have missed that class.  Absence from two classes will result in an F for the course.  Students who arrive in class thirty minutes after class begins will be penalized two points.

Attendance & Class Participation: Is vital to the learning process.  Students will be prepared to discuss the assigned material.  Attendance and class participation will be worth ten percent (10%) of the final

grade.

Late Submissions/Make up Quizzes:  Make up quizzes wil only be administered with the permission of the

instructor.  Late submission of the final written assignment will be penalized one half letter grade for each day beyond the last day of class.
