Statement of Plagiarism:
If
an instructor or other Calumet College of St. Joseph personnel find that a
student has plagiarized or been involved in another form of academic
dishonesty, the instructor or other personnel may elect to bring the matter up
for judicial review. The maximum penalty for any form of academic dishonesty is
dismissal from the College. The procedures for judicial review are listed under
the section of CCSJ handbook that addresses student grievances. All papers over
five pages in length are to be submitted electronically. The college will screen them with the

Center

Citation
Guidelines:
Calumet
College of St. Joseph adheres to citation guidelines as prescribed by the
particular discipline (i.e., MLA, APA, and Chicago Manual of Style or
Turabian.). All of these guidelines are
available in the Calumet College of St. Joseph library or bookstore. These texts outline how to cite references
from a variety of sources, including electronic media.
Withdrawal from Classes
Policy:
Refer
to the Degree Completion portion of the student handbook for the withdrawal
policy. All withdrawals are processed
through your academic advisor.
Class Policy on Attendance:
Students
are expected to attend all class sessions.
If a student must miss a class session they are expected to contact the
instructor prior to the class session.
If a student misses more than one four-hour class session, they will be
administratively withdrawn from that class.
Class Policy on Tardiness:
Students need to
be prepared to begin class at 6:00 p.m. and are expected to remain the
duration. Tardiness and early releases
impair learning and distracts other students as well as the instructor. Situations that will require an early release
or tardiness should be discussed with the instructor prior to class. Unusual circumstances may be addressed with
the Program Director.
Class Policy on
Electronic Devices:
Due to the
disruptive nature of cell phones, pagers and the like, it is requested that
these devices be deactivated during class sessions. If the student is “on-call”, please
communicate this in advance with the instructor so that an exception may be
made.

will be given ample time to work on their assignments. All assignments are to be turned in at the
end of the class period they are due.

Description of Assignments:
Students are expected to complete a handout given to
them by the instructor. This is to be
handed in along with a journal entry answering the questions from the goal
setting exercise. This journal entry
should be typed out and double-spaced.
Each student must turn in an updated resume along
with a sample cover letter.
Each student will submit a professional portfolio
displaying ten artifacts such as academic accomplishments, selected
assignments, license/certifications, awards, letters of recommendation, formal
evaluations of your work and samples of writing and presentation projects. The
portfolio should contain a summary and table of contents with tabs for each
section. It can be placed in a three
ring binder with sheet protectors. The
instructor will be giving each student a handout with information in order to
complete this project.
Students are to pick two environments in healthcare
and write up a detailed location analysis of where they can practice healthcare
management. It should be a typed 4 page
double-spaced paper including the process of what they did, who they talked to
if anyone, salary and what they would be expected to do in that healthcare role
(job description). Each area of
healthcare that the student details should be 2 pages long. Each student will also be expected to give a
five to ten minute oral presentation of his or her detailed location analysis
findings to the class.
Each student will write and develop a personal
mission/vision statement. This
well-defined personal mission statement will focus on what you want to be, and
to do, as well as on the values or principles upon which being and doing are
based. It should be a reflective paper
integrating the principle what do I do now that I have this Bachelor’s in Healthcare
Management Degree? The paper should also
demonstrate the process of developing this personal mission/vision
statement. The instructor during the
class will provide a handout to assist with completing this assignment. It should be a typed 5 to 7-page
double-spaced paper.
Each student will be expected to present one current event article focused on professional/career related jobs in healthcare management.
Each student should actively participate in class
discussion as well as be punctual for each class meeting time.
