Withdrawal from Classes Policy:

After the last day for class changes has passed (see College calendar), students may withdraw from a course in which they are registered with permission from the faculty member conducting the course. A written request detailing the reason(s) for the withdrawal must be filed with the Registrar. Written request for withdrawal must be received by the Registrar by the last day of classes prior to the final examination dates specified in the catalogue. Written requests may be mailed to the Registrar or faxed to the College fax number 219-473-4259. Students are to make note of the refund schedule when withdrawing from courses. The request is forwarded to the faculty member, who makes the final determination to accept or deny the request. If the request is honored, the student will receive notification of official withdrawal; if denied, the notification will indicate why the withdrawal is disallowed. Note: Degree Completion Division (DCD) students should consult the DCD Student Handbook for information on DCD withdrawals.

An official withdrawal is recorded as a "W" grade on the student's transcript. Dropping a

course without written permission automatically incurs an "F" grade for the course (see

Refund Schedule).

Class Policy on Attendance:

Try to attend every scheduled class. Your attendance is important so that I can verify that you are completing the lab work necessary for the course. If for some reason you cannot attend class, please contact me as soon as possible so that we can arrange some means of covering the missed material. Any typewritten handouts/assignments/test review sheets that were distributed to the class will be left in a folder in my mailbox if you cannot make it to class. Ask the receptionist for these materials. If you have a work schedule change during the course of the term I will work out an alternate schedule, if possible, so you may continue with the class.

ALL!!!!!!!!!! INCOMPLETE material is the student’s responsibility to complete! If all required material is NOT completed by the end of the term a letter grade of "F" will be given unless prior arrangements have been made, by the student, one week before the term’s end.

Class Policy For Assignments:

Course Objectives:

The basic goal and objective set of this department endeavors to change your world in a positive context. We will achieve this by adding to your knowledge base and then showing you the new world that can be perceived with this freshly acquired knowledge. It goes without saying that you are what you know, when what you know changes what you see changes, and when what you see changes, your world changes. In keeping with this, the course will present material that will provide a set of knowledge-based tools that will be applicable in the workplace as well as the classroom.

The cognitive experience is in keeping with the theories and concepts of programming and systems logic. The successful student will gain insight into the use of Microsoft Office 97, a popular suite of applications. It is assumed that the student has minimal experience using Windows 95/98 or Microsoft Office 97 prior to this course. A review of basic computer terminology will take place at the beginning of the course.

Assessment:

A large portion of this class will involve gaining hands-on experience using the Microsoft Office suite of applications. Your final grade will be based on lab work, homework assignments, and test scores as follows:

60% for lab work and homework grades combined

20% for midterm exam (review sheet will be distributed approx. one week in advance)

20% for final exam (review sheet will be distributed approx. one week in advance)

Grading Scale:

90-100% A 70-76% C

87-89% B+ 60-66% D

80-86% B 67-69% D+
