Graduate Program Admissions


Calumet College of St. Joseph has four graduate programs: Master of Arts in Teaching, Public Safety Administration, Master of Arts in Psychology and Master of Science in Management.

Admission requirements for each are as follows:

Public Safety Administration:
The applicant must:

  • Have graduated from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution with a
    baccalaureate degree

  • Submit transcripts from all other colleges and universities attended

  • Present evidence of a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale for all
    undergraduate course work

  • Submit a one page letter of purpose stating why he/she wishes to enter a
    masters program

 

 

 

Masters in Management:
The applicant must:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning;

  • Submit transcripts from all other colleges and universities attended

  • Have attained at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 grading scale or the
    equivalent grade point average on an alternative scale;

  • Submit 2 letters of recommendation and

 

 

 

Master of Arts in Psychology:
The applicant must:

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in psychology or have taken at least 18 undergraduate
    psychology hours to include introductory psychology, introductory statistics,
    psychological testing, and research methods from an accredited institution of
    higher learning;

  • Have attained at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 grading scale or the
    equivalent grade point average on an alternative scale;

  • Submit a personal statement of purpose describing interest in the field; and future professional goals;

  • Submit three letters of recommendation;

  • Complete a CCSJ graduate application and submit with statement of purpose,
    three letters of recommendation and a $25.00 non refundable application fee.

 

 

 

Transition to Teaching/MAT:

Admissions into the T2T/MAT Program:

  • Graduate Application

  • $25 Application Fee

  • Statement of Purpose

  • Two Letters of Recommendation

  • Background Check

  • Current Resume

  • Passing Score of Praxis I (Reading, Writing, and Math) OR one of the following:

    • ACT Composite of 24 or higher – Waived from Praxis I

    • SAT Composite of 1100 or higher – Waived from Praxis I

    • Praxis I Composite of 527 or higher – Waived from Praxis I

    • Earned Masters Degree – Waived from Praxis I

  • Passing Score in Interview Process

  • Official Transcripts

  • Transcript Review

  • 3.0 GPA

Continuation in the T2T/MAT Program

All teacher candidates are expected to enroll in and attend two Education Seminars each semester. These seminars address educational issues, concerns, and research relevant to the profession. See the CCSJ Education Handbook for more detail.

The Education advisors review the GPA of all teacher candidates at the end of each semester. See the CCSJ Education Handbook for more detail.

Student Teaching Acceptance for T2T/MAT Candidates

Before applying for a student teaching assignment, the teacher candidate must demonstrate proficiency and competence in the professional development expected of a student teacher. Teacher candidates must successfully:

    • Complete all required courses

    • Attain an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher

    • Submit Student Teaching Application

    • Demonstrate a professional disposition

    • Complete any other required criteria stated in the CCSJ Education Handbook


    Indiana Licensing Process

    Indiana requirements for licensing include (but not limited to)
    1. Professional courses in education;
    2. Successful completion of student teaching experience;
    3. Submit portfolio requirements
    4. Successful completion of Praxis II;
    5. Recommendation by the Licensing Advisor.
