Ladies Work Hard at Lions Classic
1/30/10 - The 16th ranked CCSJ Women’s Bowling Team finished 5th this past weekend at the Lions Classic hosted by Lindenwood University. The tournament used two of the Professional Bowlers Association five lane patterns on each pair during competition. The longer Shark pattern was used on the left lane and the shorter Viper on the right. The ladies were prepared but could not quite get a rhythm going ending day 1 in 7th place.

In the first round, the Crimson Wave defeated the Wright State Raiders 3 games to 1 in the best of five baker format. The second round brought a much more formidable opponent in top seed and national powerhouse Pikeville College. The ladies saved their best for last, but it was not enough to overcome the experience of Pikeville, falling 3 games to 1 to the Lady Bears.
“This was a complete team effort by the ladies. When one or two individuals found the lane pattern difficult, the other team members were there to keep the team steady. I was also impressed by first year team members Fallon Jarboe and Jessica Zaideman who did well this weekend in their first collegiate competition. Both young ladies played a significant role in our first round win over Wright State. I hope we can continue this momentum into next week's Tier 1 event in South Bend, IN.” Said Coach Shon Washington

There was more great bowling to come as the ladies improved on their 7th place finish in the collegiate shoot-out with an even more impressive 3rd place finish in the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational. While the ladies did fall back a bit in the overall standings, several team members made their collegiate debuts and did very well for themselves and the team. First year team members Jamie Budziak and Katie Jones stepped-up big on day two. Budziak’s first roll as a collegiate athlete in competition resulted in a strike, surprisingly so were her next five.
