CRIMSON WAVE NEWS - May-July - 2007
(6/30/07) Women's Bowling Signs Eight
The Crimson Wave Women's Bowling Team has signed 8 ladies to national letters of intent to play bowl under Head Coach Shon Washington. Coach Washington on his recruits:
"Nikki Matusik: Nikki was an integral part of Lake Central's 2007 Team State Bowling Title. She is a 185 plus average bowler with the potential to average over 200. Nikki possesses a very strong and aggressive release that allows her to generate a greater number of revolutions on her ball than most women. We expect great things from her in the upcoming years.
Alice Veenstra: Alice will likely lead-off for us next season. She is an excellent spare shooter and is a clutch performer. Alice qualified for the Indiana State finals as an individual in 2007 and finished 10th after averaging 193. Alice brings a strong mental game to Calumet College which should help her adapt quickly to challenging collegiate lane conditions.
Chandra Murphy: Chandra is one of three left-handed bowlers that will compete for Calumet College next fall. Mental toughness and a will to win made Chandra a must have on our roster. She has an almost effortless swing and good footwork. Her potential to become a great bowler is immeasurable. Chandra could become one of the premier left-handed bowlers at the collegiate level.
Megan Fricke: Megan comes to us from Crown Point and will be reunited two former Bulldog teammates. (Monica Kafantaris 06', Jessica Funk-incoming freshman) Megan is tenacious and unyielding, qualities a bowler must have during competition. Megan finished her high school career as the anchor bowler and helped lead her team to an 8th place finish at the Indiana State Finals. I look forward to working with her for the next four years.
Stacy Jena: One word comes to mind when describing Stacy, INTENSE. She brings some much needed fire and intensity to our program. Stacy joins our southpaw club of Chandra Murphy-incoming, and Sammantha Brooks-returning starter. Stacy's game is simple and smooth. She is a good spare shooter with tremendous up-side. Adapting her skills to the collegiate game should not prove to be a difficult task.
Jessica Funk: Jessica will continue the family tradition and follow big brother David (Baseball) into collegiate athletics. Jessica is that arrive first and last one to leave kind of player. We have worked together for a couple of years now and I still have to literally escort her from the building. Jessica will likely red-shirt for us this season. She will undoubtedly continue to prepare herself to make significant contributions on the lanes in 2008.
Michelle Ratliff: Michelle joins us from Hammond Gavit H.S. where she was the anchor bowler for a surprisingly competitive gladiator team in 2007. Michelle's willingness to learn is what makes her a coach's dream. Michelle will red-shirt for us this season and continue to prepare herself for the 2008/2009 bowling season."
