Calumet College of St. Joseph Athletic Department welcomes Stephanie Prill as the new Head Crimson Wave Competitive Dance Team coach for the 2011-2012 season. Prill, a south Chicago suburb resident, studied Dance in her teenage years at Top Professional Ballet schools such as Joffery Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Studio, Ruth Paige, and Joel Hall. She then traveled with these professional studios as top prima ballerina to put on performances such as The Nutcracker, Romeo & Juliet and Swan Lake. Soon after she began her teaching career at her local high school, Lincoln-way Central, where she coached the Knights orchesis team. She twice led her team to the NDA National Championship at the University of Illinois- Champaign, where they took 1st in hip-hop and 1st in Jazz in large division.
Prill furthered her career and received her Bachelor of Arts in Dance Teaching at Columbia College Chicago. She studied under many professional modern/ballet dance performers such as Peter Carpenter, Paige Cunningham, Lisa Gonzales, Carrie Hanson, Darrell Jones, Dardi McGinley-Gallivan, Pam McNeil, Natalie Rast, Joana Rosenthal, Sarah Schafer. Prill also studied master classes with Cloud Gate Dance Theater, Lucky Plush Dance Theater, Seldoms, The Dance COLEective and Merce Cunningham. While in school, Prill, performed in several main stage pieces and had her own choreography, “Boundaries of the Deep End,” chosen to be in the Dance Center’s “Choreographic Project II.” This piece was also selected to be performed at U of I-Champaign to be competed with the Top 15 Dance Colleges in the Nation, where it took 2nd.
Prill, looks forward to bring her education background to Calumet College Of St. Joseph, where she hopes to take the dance team to new heights. “Northwest Indiana has some great talent in dancing and I hope to be able to showcase that with my girls.” Said Prill |
