Stephanie Prill enters her second season as head coach of the Crimson Wave Competitive Dance team. Prill earned her B.A. in Dance Education at Columbia College Chicago in 2010.
Coach Prill has an extensive dance background as a dancer herself and teacher. Prill danced for schools such as Joffery Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Studio, Ruth Paige, and Joel Hall. She then traveled with these professional studios to put on performances such as The Nutcracker, Romeo & Juliet and Swan Lake. Soon after, she began her teaching career at her local high school, Lincoln-way Central, where she coached the Knights orchesis team. She twice led her team to the NDA State Championship at the University of Illinois- Champaign, where they took 1st in hip-hop and 1st in Jazz in large division. She also began teaching at local dance academy, American Dance Center, where she taught modern and lyrical classes.
Prill furthered her career and received her Bachelor of Arts in Dance Teaching at Columbia College Chicago. She studied under many professional modern/ballet dance performers such as Peter Carpenter, Paige Cunningham, Lisa Gonzales, Carrie Hanson, Darrell Jones, Dardi McGinley-Gallivan, Pam McNeil, Natalie Rast, Joana Rosenthal and Sarah Schafer. Prill also studied master classes with Cloud Gate Dance Theater, Lucky Plush Dance Theater, Seldoms, The Dance COLEective and Merce Cunningham. While in school, she performed in several main stage pieces and had her own choreography, “Boundaries of the Deep End,” chosen to be in the Dance Center’s “Choreographic Project II.” This piece was also selected to be performed at U of I-Champaign to be competed with the Top 15 Dance Colleges in the Nation, where it took 2nd.
After college Prill continued to teach at Lincoln way Central High School and began teaching master classes at local dance academies. She also has been involved in Chicago Public Schools where she is teaching Arts Integrations courses to help students learn many different subjects through dance. Prill is now furthering her teaching experience here at Calumet College of St. Joseph in her ultimate long term goal of opening her own private studio. Where she will focus on Pre-professional studies in ballet and modern dance.
