Ryan Sexson enters his sixth season as head coach at Calumet College of Saint Joseph. Sexson was named the fourth head coach in Calumet College of Saint Joseph’s men’s basketball history in 2007. His 2011-2012 team finished 17-13 and advanced to the championship game of the Chicago Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The Crimson Wave has been very good defensively under Sexson as his teams have ranked in the top ten nationally in multiple defensive categories.
Sexson has been successful on the recruiting front as well having recruited eight CCAC All-Conference players two CCAC Freshman of the Year and two NAIA All-Americans. The Crimson Wave has also produced three CCAC All-Academic student-athletes under Sexson’s direction.
The Crimson Wave coach came to CCSJ after spending a year as the top assistant at his alma mater Purdue University-Calumet and one season at Griffith High School.
As a prep player at Lafayette Jefferson High School, Sexson led his team to the Final Four, was a member of Indiana's Top 40 Workout, and earned a scholarship to Valparaiso University. During his college career, Sexson was a member of the 1999 Mid-Con Conference regular season and tournament championship team that earned a trip to the NCAA tournament before transferring to Purdue University Calumet. At PUC Sexson was an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention in 2002. Sexson was also named to the Chicago Collegiate Athletic All-Conference team twice and is the school’s career leader in three-point field goals and career points per game.
Sexson comes from a strong basketball family as his grandfather Joe Sexson is a member of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and was an assistant coach at Purdue University before taking the head coaching job at Butler University. Ryan's father Rick Sexson is a former player and coach at Butler University.
A native of Lafayette, In, Sexson is a 2003 graduate of Purdue University-Calumet with a bachelor’s degree in Media and Communications. Coach Sexson, his wife Sarah, and son Jace reside in Schererville, IN.
