Justin Olson will enter his second season as head coach of the Crimson Wave women’s soccer program in the fall of 2014.
Olson guided the women’s program to their most successful season in the program’s history as they finished 6-11-1 overall. Four players from the Crimson Wave earned post-season academic honors. Seniors Mallory Defries and Paige Northrup earned both the NAIA Scholar-Athletes and CCAC All-Academic Honors. Maritza Salas and Lisa Urbina both earned CCAC All-Academic Honors.
Outside of the collegiate game, Coach Olson also coaches the u17 boy’s team for NWI United. Olson led NWI United to their best season yet as they finished second in the league in scoring and had the best overall defense that only allowed eight goals all season.
Off the field, Olson embodies all that Calumet College of St. Joseph represents. He is devoted to providing a great experience to his student athletes and assisting in their development both on and off the field. Coach Olson brings a great passion for the game of soccer and he believes it is a great stage that teaches student-athletes a lot of great life lessons.
In addition to his role as the women’s head soccer coach, Olson also works in the Sports Information Department and serves as a game day supervisor for other Crimson Wave home events.
Coach Olson is a product of the Northwest Indiana Region playing for Portage High School. Olson played at the University of Southern Indiana during his collegiate career as he graduated in 2009 with a B.S. in Communications.
Tara Ellis will enter her first season as assistant coach of the Crimson Wave women’s soccer program. Tara is a product of northwest Indiana as she graduated from Portage High School and played at Valparaiso University.
During her high school career at PHS, Tara was Honorable Mention All-State as a Junior, Second Team All-State as a Senior, two time Academic All-State, and helped lead Portage to the State Final Four in 2006. Tara played club soccer for NWI United for eight years.
At Valparaiso University, Tara started every game her junior and senior season and was named to the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll 2012-2013.
Andrew Bennett will enter his first season with the Crimson Wave men and women’s soccer programs as the teams goalie coach. Andrew is a product of northwest Indiana where he played for NWI United, Millennium, and ODP.
Andrew has spent the last ten years coaching and assisting in the St. Francis Youth Program in the Fort Wayne, IN area. He also spent one year as the goalkeeper coach for Inter Atlanta FC Youth Program. Andrew has played tournaments in thirty-three states and three countries.
Off the field, Coach Bennett is a business consultant with Auto Traders and Kelley Blue Book. He has his B.S. in Business Administration with a minor in Finance and IT.
Coach Bennett currently holds his NSCAA Level 1 and Level 2 Goalkeeping Licenses.
