Crimson Wave Men's Bowling

Dear Prospective Student-Athlete:

Calumet College of St. Joseph welcomes your interest in our Crimson Wave Men’s Bowling Program. We are committed to help you receive a quality education while competing at the highest level of collegiate sport. Our program is designed to help you reach your bowling and educational goals.

We begin with a coaching staff driven to create a leading collegiate bowling program. With over 40 years of experience as accomplished bowlers and instructors, we offer knowledge and instruction based on first-hand achievement and coaching study. Qualifying for the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships in each of our first three seasons has gained us recognition as a top national competitor. Here’s a glimpse of what our program has to offer you:

Head Coach, Mike Kubacki, has gained national recognition as a collegiate and amateur competitor since 1986. His accomplishments include gold and silver medals while competing for Vincennes University, along with nearly two-hundred amateur tournament wins. These include three Indiana state titles and numerous local association crowns. His record also includes numerous individual awards for 300’s and 800’s, and a perfect 3-for-3 cashing in U.S. Open Championships as an amateur. Mr. Kubacki is a USBC Silver Level coach, and he also directs a successful State Championship high school bowling program for Griffith High.

Assistant Coach, Randy Vania, has been a certified bowling instructor for over 25 years and is a USBC Bronze Level coach. His expertise has helped numerous bowlers achieve personal success at both the local and national levels, including a first-team collegiate All-American and high school All-Star. Coach Vania holds various local association titles and award scores, and is a former member of the PBA.

All players chosen to participate in our bowling program immediately become eligible for school-directed financial support to help defray a portion of annual tuition costs. The program is fully recognized and supported by the school’s administration, with nearly all team-related expenses funded by the college. The out-of-pocket cost for active team members is minimal. Players also receive free monthly practice games and special pricing on personal equipment purchased through the USBC Collegiate program. Three affiliate pro shops work with us to provide expert fitting and drilling services at reduced prices.

We provide expert instruction using proven techniques and the latest in video analysis. Each player receives hands-on attention, along with an opportunity to compete in major collegiate events. Our practice sessions are held strictly on sport-compliant oil patterns to help us prepare for the demanding conditions encountered in collegiate competition. Olympia Lanes, located less than ten minutes from the college, is our home practice center. This modern 40-lane center has the latest Brunswick ProAnvil Lane surface and Kegel lane machine, along with full pro shop services to provide us with everything we need to build a top program.

For over 50 years, Calumet College of St. Joseph has been providing quality education in the Catholic tradition. Located just 30 minutes from Chicago, our small class size, experienced instructors and accomplished coaching staff provide the student-athlete with a rewarding experience in a diverse setting.
