Men Compete at Troll Classic
The Crimson Wave men’s golf team competed in the Troll Golf Classic in Homewood, Illinois. There were nine colleges that participated in this event that included: Calumet College of St. Joseph, St. Xavier, Chicago State University, University of St. Francis (IL), Olivet Nazarene University, Trinity Christian, Roosevelt University, Judson College, and Purdue-North Central. There were over sixty golfers that played in this event.
CCSJ’s own Tyler Nicol continued his impressive Junior season by finishing 4th overall while shooting a 73 on the day. Tyler went 36 on the first nine holes and 37 on the back nine holes. Steve Rankin and Kyle Snyder each shot an 86 on the day. The Crimson Wave would go on to finish 8th overall.
The Crimson Wave golfers have a lot of time to prepare as they head to Prairie, Texas to compete in the Northwood Fall Shootout on October 28th.
Nicol Places 2nd at ONU Tiger Invite
The Crimson Wave Men’s Golf Team competed in the ONU Tiger Invite held in Crete, IL.
This was the fourth contest of the season for the Crimson Wave golfers. Eleven different colleges participated in this event including Division I Chicago State.
CCSJ finished 5th overall. It was CCSJ’s Tyler Nicol that would go on to take 2nd place overall by shooting a 74. Anthony Rubino, Steve Rankin, Anthony Spalla, and Kyle Snyder would go on to shoot 80, 84, 95, and 90 respectively.
The Crimson Wave will now prepare for their next event as they head to Homewood, IL for the Troll Golf Classic on Wednesday October 3rd. Tee time will be at 10am.
Nicol Finishes Second at Lost Marsh
The Crimson Wave Men’s Golf Team competed in the Mike Lalaeff Memorial Invitational which was held at Lost Marsh Golf Course in Hammond, Indiana. This was the third contest of the season for the Crimson Wave golfers. Sixteen colleges participated in this two day event that includes CCAC schools such as Robert Morris University, Olivet Nazarene, and Saint Xavier.
CCSJ’s own Tyler Nicol would come up big for the Crimson Wave by finishing second overall! This would turn into an exciting finish for the Junior golfer. Tyler went into a five hole play-off against James Kerr from Saint Xavier. On the final hole of the playoff, Tyler would take his second shot from the green that hit the pin! The ball landed and Tyler finished the round with a put to seal his 2nd place finish.
In round one, Tyler shot a 72 while posting 76 in round two. “Tyler played like a machine. He kept the ball on the short grass during the windy day. He is really taking his game to the next level and staying there,” said Coach Topoll. Junior Anthony Rubino shot an 84 in round one and 83 in round two that would be good enough for 49nd overall.
“Right now we are in the middle of the pack. We are steadily improving as a team and we hope to keep moving forward as we get ready for the CCAC Tournament,” said Coach Topoll.
Next up for the Crimson Wave is the ONU Tiger Fall Invite in Crete Illinois on September 26th. Tee time is at 9am.
