Men Compete at Battle at Blackthorn
The Crimson Wave men’s golf team competed in the Battle at Blackthorn over the weekend. There were over fourteen schools competing in this event that include: Bethel College, Holy Cross, University of St. Francis, Marian University, Taylor University, Grace College, St. Xavier, University of St. Francis (IN), Madonna University, Trinity Christian University, Concordia University, Huntington University, Roosevelt University, and North Central University.
The men’s team would go on to finish the event 14th overall scoring 337 on the first day and 338 on the second. Tyler Nicol and Anthony Rubino led the way for the Crimson Wave as they both finished in 37th place. Tyler shot 80, 79 and Anthony shot 79,80 as they both ended the weekend +15. Michael Bafia finished 69th as he shot 84 and 86 while Anthony Spalla finished 78th as he shot 94 and 93.
The men’s team will return to action on September 15th and 16th when they compete in the Mike Lalaeff Memorial Invitational.
Rubino Win Crimson Wave Golf Preview
Crimson Wave men’s golfer Anthony Rubino took the title at the annual Crimson Wave Golf Preview today held at White Hawk Country Club in Crown Point, IN.
Rubino hit the links hard as he was the day one leader carding a 75 as the tournament saw the teams play the Grey and Red Courses each providing nine holes. On day two Rubino came out just as strong playing the Silver and Black courses posting a 74.
“Anthony has been working hard to reach the next level. I believe he has turned the corner and is focusing on his path to success now and in the future. He has the right stuff and is on track to achieve more accomplishments in his senior year. “ said head coach George Topoll
Tyler Nicol grabbed a 7th place finish overall while teammate Michael Bafia finished in a four way tie for 10th. Anthony Spalla took 19th overall for the Crimson Wave.
The Crimson Wave took 3rd overall as a team finishing behind tournament winner the University of St. Francis and Purdue University Calumet.
Nicol Places 3rd at Taylor Invite
The Crimson Wave men’s golf team competed in the Taylor University Men’s Golf Open on April 14th. Eight colleges and universities competed in the event that includes: Holy Cross College, Taylor University, Bethel College, Indiana Wesleyan University, University of St. Francis, Huntington University, Purdue University-Calumet, and Calumet College of St. Joseph. The tournament was supposed to be two rounds but was shorted to 18 holes due to inclement weather.
Overall, CCSJ would go on to finish 6th scoring 334 after 18 holes. Tyler Nicol led the way for the Crimson Wave as he shot 77 which ended up being +5 on the course which was good enough for third overall. Anthony Rubio shot a 78 which tied for sixth overall. Michael Bafia shot an 89 which put him in 40th. Anthony Spalla and Steve Rankin shot a 90 and 93 respectively.
The Crimson Wave will next compete in the CCAC Championships on April 21st and 22nd that will complete their 2014 season.
