Fields Named Player of the Week for the Second Time

12/22/08 - Calumet College of St. Joseph's Moneva Fields (Harvey, Ill.) finds her name back in the headlines after she was recognized as the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Division II Player of the Week for the second time this season.

Fields first garnered the award for the week ending Nov. 30.

This time, the 5-9 freshman guard gained the honor by averaging a double-double (13.0 points/10.3 rebounds) over her three games played during the week ending Dec. 21.

Fields opened the stretch of three games over three days recording her third double-double of the season, totaling 16 points and 11 rebounds, to go along with five steals, three assists and two blocks in a 79-52 loss to host Northwood University (Fla.) at the Players Choice Classic in West Palm Beach, Fla. on Dec. 16.

She followed that up by accounting for nearly half of her team's 38 points in an 82-38 loss to Cornerstone University (Mich.) on Dec. 17 with her 18-point, 7-rebound performance.

Fields then closed the week with 13 rebounds (her second-most this season) and five points in a 72-55 setback to Notre Dame College (Ohio).

Calumet St. Joseph's three losses for the week left the Crimson Wave at 1-13 on the season.

Men Finish 2nd in Las Vegas

12/21/08 - The Crimson Wave men's bowling team competed in the Samstown Collegiate Shootout this weekend in Las Vegas, NV. Coming into the baker match portion of the competition in 5th place the men fought there way into 4th going into the final round.

The final round brought the toughest challenge of the tournament facing Wichita State, Florida State and Arizona State. The men beat all three in the final round collecting the first place bonus pins and giving the Wave a 2nd place overall finish, going 26-3-1, in the competition. The men were led by junior Danny Locke averaging 210 pins for the competition.

The men will remain in Las Vegas this week competing in the Las Vegas Invitational.

Veenstra Leads Wave at Collegiate Shootout

12/21/08 - The Crimson Wave women's bowling team competed in the Samstown Collegiate Shootout this weekend in Las Vegas, NV, finishing 11th overall. Alice Veenstra led the Wave with a 204 average, being named to the Shootout All-Tournament Team.

Young Wave Struggle at Holiday Tournament

12/21/08 - The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team traveled to Indianapolis, IN this weekend for the Marian College Holiday Tournament.  The men opened the tournament with host Marian College on Friday night.

The Wave was led on Friday night by Wilfredo Escobar and Waybon McConnell who each had 15 points and 3 rebounds in the Wave’s 101-72 loss to Marian College.   The Wave trailed by only 5 five at the half.  Helping the in effort, Jon Hanselman, had 11 points and 9 rebounds.
 
On Saturday the Wave took on Berea College in the consolation game of the Holiday Tournament.  With a 5 point lead at the half, 30-25, the Wave would enjoy its last lead of the night, 31-30, with 17:24 left in the second half.   Evening the scores at 68 with a 1:33 left on a Jon Contos layup, the men would miss their next to shots and give the game to Berea 73-68.  Wilfredo Escobar ended the night 26 points and 4 assists for the men.
 
The men (2-14 overall) will play their next game on January 7th in a CCAC conference match up against Purdue University North Central.  The game will be played at 7:00 pm on the Wave’s home floor at the Hammond Civic Center. 

Fields Named to All-Classic Team

12/18/08 - Freshman Moneva Fields has been named to Players Choice Classic All-Classic Team. Fields performances included a 16 point 11 rebound (third double double of the season) performance against Northwood University in day one and a 18 point 7 rebound performance against Cornerstone University in day two. Fields finished off the Classic against Notre Dame College grabbing 13 rebounds and scoring 5 points.

Ladies End Classic With Loss to Notre Dame

12/18/08 - The Crimson Wave's inexperience in the college game showed today in the 55-72 loss to Notre Dame College in the final day of the Players Choice Classice in West Palm Beach, FL. Trailing by 5 at the half the Wave came out strong. With only a four point defecit at the 4:30 mark the Wave's inexperience came in to play and the Wave let go giving the final to Notre Dame. Lecreia Hudson led the Ladies with 15 points and 5 assists. Moneva Fields ended the night with 13 rebounds.

The 1-13 Wave will play their next game at the St. Xavier University Holiday Classic on December 27 at the Shannon Center on the campus of St. Xavier in Chicago, IL.

12/16/08 – Freshman Moneva Fields came up with her third double double of the season 16 points and 11 rebounds in the Waves 79-52 loss to Northwood University in the first day of the Players Choice Classic in West Palm Beach, FL.  After trailing by only five at the half the ladies could not hold back the Seahawks.  Nikkia Brown ended the night with 11 points and 8 rebounds.  The ladies now 1-11 overall will take on Cornerstone University tomorrow December 17th in day of the Player Choice Classic.  

Men Take Loss to Davenport

12/10/08 - The Crimson Wave men's basketball team was defeated tonight by Davenport University 53-66 after leading by one at the half (29-28). Wilfredo Escobar led the Wave with 12 points and four assists, while Jon Contos and Fares Saqf Alhait each had 9 points for the men. The men 2-10 overall will travel to Crawfordsville, IN and the Wabash Invite this weekend.

Ladies Fall Short to Leafs

12/9/08 - Junior Candice Bishop led the Wave with 21 points going 4-7 from behing the arc in the ladies 66-59 loss to the Goshen College Leafs. After trailing by two at the half (28-26) the Wave led by 10 with 10:17 left in the second half on a Lisa Upshaw assisted layup by Moneva Fields. After a series of missed shots the ladies let the Leafs back in the game and take the lead by nine. From their the Wave could not recover and gave the game to Goshen 66-59. Lisa Upshaw had 17 points, five rebounds, six assists while Lecreia Hudson put in 11 points. The 1-9 Crimson Wave will host Ashford University on Saturday December 13th at 1:00 pm.

Men Defeat Scarlet Hawks

12/6/08 - The Crimson Wave men's basketball team traveled to Chicago, IL and Illinois Insitute ot Technology on Saturday for a match up between CCAC Division I Scarlet Hawks and CCAC Division II Crimson Wave. After leading by 2 at the half 33-31, the Wave put on the pressure in the second half and took the game 71-68. Sophomore Wilfredo Escobar led the Wave with 16 points and 8 assists while senior Jon Hanselman had 14 points and 7 rebounds and Fares Saqf Alhait had 10 points. The men are now 2-9 overall this season.

Women's Basketball Defeated at Walsh

12/6/08 - The Crimson Wave women's basketball teams was defeated at Walsh College today 66-51. The ladies were led by freshman Jasmine Richardson's 14 points while Candice Bishop had 13 for the ladies. The Wave is now 1-8 oeverall.

Fields Authors Second Double-Double, Named POW

12/5/08 - Notching her second double-double in four days, Calumet College of St. Joseph's (Ind.) Moneva Fields (Harvey, Ill.) used that effort to gain Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Division II Player of the Week honors for the week ending Nov. 30.

Fields, just a freshman, tallied 22 points and 10 rebounds in an 82-76 setback to Robert Morris College on Nov. 25. The 5-9 guard shot .529 from the field (9-of-17) that night on her way to her collegiate-high point total. Her ten rebounds, meanwhile, marked her second-best showing of the campaign.

Fields also was credited with two steals and one assist.

Calumet St. Joseph's record slipped to 1-7 with the loss, which was the Crimson Wave's lone game of the week.

Wave Defeated in Florida

12/3/08 - Sophomore Wilfredo Escobar led the young Wave with 22 points and 7 rebounds in a 89-69 loss tonight to Warner University in Lake Wales, FL. Senior Jon Hanselman helped in the effort with 8 points and 6 rebounds. The men are now 1-9 overall.

Men Fall Short to No. 3 Northwoods University

12/1/08 - The Crimson Wave men's basketball team was defeated by No. 3 (NAIA Division 2) Northwoods University 87-73 tonight in West Palm Beach, FL.  Sophomore Jon Contos led the Wave with 23 points going 6-11 from behind the arc.  Sophomore Wilfredo Escobar helped in the effort with 21 points.  The men are now 1-8 overall.  Their next game will be Wednesday November 3rd at Warner University.
