Wave Struggle Early On
2/28/09 - The Crimson Wave baseball team lost both games of a double header against Lambuth University in Jackson, TN today.
Game one the Crimson Wave was defeated 17-5. Justin Rogers went 2-2 at the plate with a double. In game two the Crimson Wave fell 2-0 to Lambuth. Ryan Young was 2-3 at bat, while Jonathon Chance had three strikeouts for the men.
The Crimson Wave (0-6 overall) will play Lambuth in a double header tomorrow starting at 12:00 pm EST in Jackson, TN.
Ladies Take Losses at Evangel Early Bird Tournament
2/27/09 - The Crimson Wave softball team was defeated in their season opener today in game one by Missouri Valley College 14-5. Penny Bensinger hit her first home run of the season while Maynesha Villagomez went 1-2 with a double.
In game two the Crimson Wave took a loss to William Woods University 10-2. Bensinger went 1-1 with a single.
In game three the Crimson Wave took on host Evangel University where the Crimson Wave were defeated 16-3. Bensinger went 2-3 with two singles, while Ashley Lake went 1-2 for at the plate with a single.
The Crimson Wave softball games for day two of the Evangel University Early Bird Tournament have been canceled due to inclement weather conditions.
Men End Season in Loss to Trojans
2/23/08 - The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team ended their season tonight, in the first round of the CCAC conference tournament, to Trinity International University, 90-67. After trailing by 17, 41-24, at the half the men cut the lead to 15 at with 3:43 left in play on a three pointer from freshman Eli Macis. This was the closest the men would get giving the game to the Trojans. The men were led by freshman Karl Anderson who had a break out night o f 18 points and 6 rebounds. Wilfredo Escobar added 11 points and 5 assists, while Jon Contos threw in 10 points for the men.
The Crimson Wave ended their season 7-23 overall and 4-8 in the CCAC.
Escobar and Hanselman Named All-Conference
2/22/09 - Crimson Wave men's basketball player Wilfredo Escobar was named to the CCAC All-Conference team. Escobar averaged 16.5 ppg and 4.1 apg this season which led the CCAC. Escobar also led the CCAC in free throw percentage at 77.8 percent. Jon Hanselman was named to the CCAC All-Conference Honorable Mention team. Hanselman averaged 10.8 ppg and 7.2 rpgwhich was third in the CCAC this season.
Upshaw and Fields Named All-Conference
2/22/09 - Crimson Wave women's basketball player Lisa Upshaw was named to the CCAC All-Conference 2nd team this season. Upshaw averaged 12.1 ppg and 5 rpg. Teammate Moneva Fields was named CCAC All-Conference Honorable Mention after averaging 10.2 ppg and 8.8 rpg.
Hollingsworth Wins 60 M Dash
2/22/09- The Crimson Wave men's track and field team competed at the Grand Valley State Open on Friday night and the Anderson Invite on Saturday. Anthony Hollingsworth won the 60 M Dash on Friday at Grand Valley State running at time of 7.07s. On Saturday at Anderson University Terrell Thomas finished 2nd in the high jump with a height of 6' and 3/4 in. Thomas also finished 3rd in the 55 m hurdles with a time of 8.09 s. Hollingsworth finished 9th in the 55 m dash in 6.86 s.
Kevin Patterson finished 4th in the 600 m run on Saturday at the Boilermaker Invitational at Purdue University. Patterson ran a time of 1:26.17.
Men Finish 13th at Hoosier Classic
2/22/09 - The Crimson Wave men's bowling team finished 13th overall this past weekend at the Hoosier Classic. The men were led by Ryan Gleghorn who averaged 197 throughout the tournament. The men's next event will be the Intercollegiate Team Championship Sectional on March 13th.
Senior Night Ends in Win
2/18/09 - Senior night ended in a win for seniors Jon Hanselman and Waybon McConnell agianst conference opponent Trinity International University, 69-62. The men were led Hanselman's 18 points. CJ Montgomery added 15 points while Wilfredo Escobar added 14 points. The men are now 7-22 overall and 4-7 in the CCAC.
Ladies Say Farewell to Lake
2/18/09 - The Crimson Wave women's basketball team was defeated by Trinity International University 63-51 tonight. The ladies were led by a double double from Moneva Fields, 18 points and 11 rebounds. Lisa Upshaw also threw in 24 points for the women. The ladies wished Senior Ashley Lake farewell this evening, Lake had 2 points in her last home game of her career. The ladies are now 4-25 and 0-9 in the CCAC.
Pink Zone a Success 
2/16/09 - On Saturday February 14th the Crimson Wave of Calumet College of St. Joseph partnered with the WBCA in the PINK ZONE initiative in support of breast cancer awareness. CCSJ hosted the home double-header basketball event at the Hammond Civic Center against conference rival Trinity Christian College.
During the games each team, women and men, wore pink shooting shirts during pregame warm-ups while the coaching staff of each team displayed pink is support of the PINK ZONE with shoes laces, polo shirts and ties. The crowd in attendance for the double-header was very supportive to the initiative by wearing pink to the game or purchasing a special PINK ZONE t-shirt design specifically for the event.
Calumet College of St. Joseph included multiple raffles during the women and men’s game by giving away various local restaurant gift cards, gift baskets, foursome of golf, a pink Nintendo DS and a pink IPOD shuffle. A bake sale featuring home made pink ribbon chocolate suckers, cup cakes and cookies gave the fans in attendance something to stimulate the taste buds while continuing to represent the spirit of the PINK ZONE.
Calumet College of St. Joseph raised $1300.00 through all of the various Crimson Wave ideas during the PINK ZONE event which will be donated to the Kay You Foundation for breast cancer research. Athletic Director Peter Haze Haring stated, “This was a very rewarding experience for CCSJ in our first attempt in being apart of such a great cause through the sport of collegiate basketball.” He goes on to say, “This day saw two competitive conference schools come together to bring more awareness and unity towards breast cancer and the research being done to prevent such a devastating disease that affects so many females and their families each year.”
The local northwest Indiana chapters of the American Cancer Association and Breast Cancer Research Foundation were also present during the double-header basketball event to serve as a resource to those who wanted to know more about breast cancer prevention and care.
Overall Calumet College of St. Joseph entered the PINK ZONE for the first time, took on the challenge of bringing more awareness, raised a successful amount of donations for breast cancer and finished the day will a very rewarding experience that will continue each season in the month of February.
Men Compete at Hoosier Hills and Indiana Wesleyan
2/16/09 - The Crimson Wave men's track and field team made a tour of central Indiana this weekend competing at the Hoosier Hills meet hosted by Indiana University on Friday and the Indiana Wesleyan Open held at Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday.
With a rough start to the weekend on Friday at Hoosier Hills, the men's inexperience came into play. Senior Kevin Patterson finished 12th in the 600 m run with a time of 1:24.50.
Saturday the Wave looked to get back on track. Anthony Hollingsworth finished 3rd in the 60 m with a tiem of 7.23. Robert Torres finished in 5th in the pole vault at 11'11' and 3/4 in. Terrell Thomas also secured a 5th place finish in the high jump clearing 6'2", while also finishing 6th in the 60 m Hurdles finishing in 8.83. Joe Efantis rounds out the top 10 finishes, finishing 7th with a time of 2:04.23 in the 800 m.
The men will compete at Grand Valley State University on Friday February 20th for their next competition.
Women Compete at Hoosier Hills and Indiana Wesleyan
2/16/09 - The Crimson Wave men's track and field team made a tour of central Indiana this weekend competing at the Hoosier Hills meet hosted by Indiana University on Friday and the Indiana Wesleyan Open held at Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday.
Friday night a Hoosier Hills Naketa Washington finished 14th in the 60 m with a time of 8.35. After a good night of sleep, Washigton came out on Saturday at Indiana Wesleyan improving her finish to 4th and a time of 8.43.
Ladies Defeated By Trolls
2/14/09 - The Crimson Wave women's basketball team was defeated by Trinity Christian College today 74-53. The ladies were led by Lisa Upshaw's 26 points and 6 rebounds. The ladies are now 4-24 overall and 0-8 in the CCAC.
Men Come Up Short
2/14/09 - The Crimson Wave men's basketball team were defeated by Trinity Christian College today despite leading most of the game, 65-58. The men were led by Wilfredo Escobar who threw in 15 points, along with 13 points and 9 rebounds from Jon Hanselman. The men are now 6-22 overall and 3-7 in conference.
Men Take Loss to Wolves
2/11/09 - The Crimson Wave men's basketball team was defeated tonight by Cardinal Stritch University 83-62. The men had five players in double figures tonight Fares Saqf Alhait 17 points, Waybon McConnell 13 points, Jon Hanselman 12 points, CJ Montgomery and Jon Contos each with 10 points. The men are 6-21 overall and 3-6 in the CCAC.
Inexperience To Much For Wave
2/11/09 - The inexperience of the Crimson Wave women's basketball team proved to be too much tonight as the ladies were defeated by Cardinal Stritch 101-46. The ladies were led by Moneva Fields 18 points along with 15 points from Lisa Upshaw. The ladies are now 4-23 and 0-7 in conference.
Men Perform Well in Bloomington
2/7/09 - Bloomington-The CCSJ Men’s Track and Field program had another solid performance at the Hoosier Invitational at Indiana University last Saturday. In total, 3 school records and 5 personal bests were achieved in a meet featuring a mixture of NCAA division 2 and 3 schools as well as NAIA, and Junior College teams. No team scores were kept.
Terrell Thomas highlighted the day’s performances by finishing 4th in the 60m high hurdles with a time of 8.90 seconds. Thomas set the school record in the preliminaries where he covered the 60m distance in 8.86 seconds. That time puts him only .36 seconds of the NAIA national “B” standard. In the high jump, Terrell cleared 6 feet 4 ¾ inches to finish 2nd in the competition and had 3 good, but unsuccessful attempts at 6 feet 6 ¾ inches, which is the NAIA national “B” standard.
Kevin Paterson’s day consisted of 2 personal bests in the 400m and the 200m. Running his personal best time of 51.86 seconds, Kevin finished the event in 6th place overall. He then stepped on the track 20 minutes later in the 200m winning his heat and dropping his personal best to 23.56 while finishing 20th overall.
Robbie Loop finished 17th overall in the mile with a school record and personal best time of 4 minutes 40.26 seconds. This makes the 3rd time this year Robbie has set personal bests in the mile. Robbie’s time surpassed the school record time of Brian Bowman’s by less than a second which was established earlier in the season.
The Men’s Track program travels back to Bloomington on Friday February 13th to compete in the Hoosier Hills event at Indiana University and then will travel to Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday February 14th to compete in the Wildcat Invitational.
Ladies Come Up Short Against Purdue Calumet
2/7/09- After leading by 9 points at the half 37-28 the Crimson Wave women's basketball team fell short 79-70. The ladies were led by freshman Ashley Kieltyka's 15 points and 12 rebounds. Lisa Upshaw added 19 for the ladies. The Wave are now 4-22 overall and 0-6 in the CCAC.
Men Fall Short Against Purdue Calumet
2/7/09 - The Crimson Wave men's basketball team fell short today against cross town rival Purdue University Calumet 81-72 despite having a five point second half lead. The men were led CJ Montgomery's double double of 11 points and 13 rebounds. Waybon McConnell and Wilfredo Escobar each had 16 points while Fares Saqf Alhait had 12 points. The men are now 6-20 overall and 3-5 in conference.
Men Dominate Redhawks
2/4/09 - The Crimson Wave men's basketball defeated Indiana University Northwest tonight 95-62. The Crimson Wave dominated the ball from the tip off gaining a 21 point lead by the half (44-23) The men had four players in double figures including a double double by senior Jon Hanselman, 30 points and 10 rebounds. Jon Contos threw in 17 points, Waybon McConell 16 points and CJ Montgomery had 14 points and 9 rebounds. The men are now 6-19 overall.
