Three Named Scholar Athletes
5/27/09 - Crimson Wave baseball players Mike Helfen, Brett Summers, and Ryan Young have been named NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athletes for the 2008-2009 academic year.
The recipients are required to be a junior or above in academic standing; in attendance at the nominating institution a minimum of one full year of attendance; has a minimum grade point average of 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale) at the time of nomination at the nominating institution; has been certified as eligible on the varsity roster; form completed with required signatures.
Krucek Finishes at Championships
5/19/09 - Crimson Wave sophomore Sammy Krucek finsihed in the top 14 overall at the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships.
After the first day seeding round Krucek saw himself in 14th palce after struggling most of the day. Going into day two Krucek was matched with the number 11 seed, Zach Wilhelmi from North Dakota State. Krucek lost the best of five series (3-1) to Wilhelmi knocking himself out of play.
Crimson Wave Awards Banquet
(5/13/09) - Last night at the Dynasty Banquet Hall the Crimson Wave athletic department held its 3rd annual awards banquet which highlighted the best of what our teams have accomplished this past season. Some of the major highlights were:
Major Department Awards:
Athlete of the Year: Stephanie Zimny - Softball/Volleyball
Male Senior of the Year: Mike Helfen - Baseball
Female Senior of the Year: Sarah Bane - Women's Bowling
Andy Juscik Character Award: Ashley Lake - Softball/Women's Basketball
111 student-athletes earned the honor of being on the Athletic Director’s List for achieving a 3.0 or higher GPA this school year.
12 student-athletes earned the distinction of making the NAIA Daktronics National Scholar-Athlete award.
Top Team GPA: Women’s Bowling – 3.5 GPA
Top Freshman GPA: Sami Murphy (Tennis)
Top Sophomore GPA: Angel Ross (Tennis)
Top Junior GPA: Ryan Alberson (Men's Bowling)
Top Senior GPA: Sarah Bane (Bowling)
Men Split at Robert Morris
5/2/09 - The Crimson Wave baseball team split a conference doubleheader today at Robert Morris College.
In game one the men defeated Robert Morris 1-0. John Chance got the win on the mound with two strikeouts and also batting 2-2. Ryan Young was also 2-4 at the plate.
In game two the men fell short 7-4. Nick Bolda was the losing pitcher with three strikeouts. Chris Kopp was 2-4 at the plate while Chance was 2-3.
Zimny Named All-Conference
5/1/09 - Crimson Wave senior softball player Stephanie Zimny has been named to the CCAC All-Conference team for the 2009 season. Zimny batted a .359 on the season with a .515 slugging percentage, 37 hits and 29 RBI's.
