Crimson Wave Earns Six Scholar Teams

7/29/10 – The Crimson Wave athletic department earned six NAIA Scholar Team awards for 2009-2010. 

Women’s Tennis earned this award for the third time with women’s soccer earning the award for their second time.  Women’s Basketball, wrestling, Men’s Golf and Softball have all earned the award for their first time.  The Crimson Wave wrestling team is one of only two wrestling teams in the country to earn this distinction.

For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average must include all varsity student-athletes certified as eligible.

All-Area Richardson Signs with Crimson Wave

7/6/10 - Head men’s basketball coach Ryan Sexson has announced the signing of 6-2 guard Roddy RichardsonRichardson from Jefferson High School in Lafayette, IN.  The three year varsity starter averaged 16 points 8 rebounds and 2 steals per game in his senior season while winning 2 sectional titles in his time with the Bronchos.  

Richardson earned a spot on the Lafayette Journal and Courier All-Area Big School First-Team and also participated in the Hall of Fame Classic All-Star Game as well as the Indiana Top 60 Workout.  Rick Bolus of High Potential Recruiting Service ranked Richardson a top 25 player in the state of Indiana. Scouting Indiana lists him as a three star player.

“Roddy is a great addition to our basketball program because of the variety of things he can do on the basketball court,” said Sexson. “He is the kind of player that enjoys doing the things necessary to win basketball games. He is capable of scoring in multiple ways, but more importantly he thrives on the defensive end of the floor.”

Richardson joins fellow Lafayette native Alantae Crawford in CCSJ’s 2010 recruiting class. “We both play defense and we’re both hard-working players,” Richardson said. “We should compliment each other’s games and do well at CCSJ.”

Richardson was joined by a crowd of nearly 25 friends and family at the signing in Lafayette.

“It says a lot about Roddy’s character and the lives that he has touched when you see as many teachers, friends, and family come out to support him,” said Sexson. “There is no question we are adding another outstanding person to the CCSJ family.”

Richardson will major in Education while at CCSJ and plans to pursue a career in teaching and coaching.

Hobart’s Fussell commits to Crimson Wave Women’s Soccer

6/11/10 – Head women’s soccer coach Jennifer Fickett has signed Ashley Fussell from Hobart High School in Hobart, IN to a national letter of Fussellintent to join the Crimson Wave in the fall of 2010.

Fussell, with her leadership and fiery spirit, helped propel her high school team to a 4-3 overtime victory over Griffith High School in an IHSAA sectional quarterfinal game last fall after being down 3-0 at half.  She scored the tying goal to put her team into overtime.  She was named Offensive MVP her senior year.

“Ashley is a quick and skillful forward,” said Coach Fickett.  “I watched her play a few times; however, she really blew me away with her leadership and game management in that sectional quarterfinal game.  It was exciting to watch.  She will help us fill the void we had up top as a forward and I am eager to see her take her game to the next level with us.”

Fussell chose Calumet College of St. Joseph because she wanted to stay close to home and felt that the players, coaching staff and academic environment will help her advance her skills in life and soccer.  She is currently undecided on her major.

Four former teammate transfers sign with Crimson Wave Women’s Soccer

6/11/10 – Crimson Wave head women’s soccer coach Jennifer Fickett has announced the signing of Jennifer Ransford, Jordan Thome, Sandy Thur and Lesley Vertrees, four former teammate transfers from Cochise College in southeastern RansfordArizona who will bring veteran leadership and experience to our program.

Ransford is a hardworking defender who joins us from Sierra Vista, AZ. She played at Buena High School and two years at Cochise College where she was an All-Conference Player.  She attended Angelo State University in Texas; however, chose not to play (NCAA DII) and decided to finish her last two years of eligibility Vertreeswith the Crimson Wave. Ransford’s passion for the game, work ethic and leadership will be instrumental in taking our program to the next level.  She has a great understanding of the game and her tenacity will help make her a player to watch. 

Thome, who played at Buena High School with Ransford, comes to the Crimson Wave after playing one year each at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix, AZ and Cochise College. She is a versatile player with a great soccer IQ; her knowledge of the game is superb.  Thome’s passion and desire to play to the best of her ability will help make our program more competitive as we move forward. She is a relentless defender and will anchor our defense with Ransford.

Thur, a teammate of Thome’s at South Mountain Community College and Cochise College, will be an invaluable midfielder with a nose for the goal.  She is a strong player on and off the ball and will be a key player in helping set up scoring opportunities for the Crimson Wave.  Thur is naturally gifted with placing the ball and will play a vital role in set pieces. 

Vertrees is a tremendous athlete and soccer player who comes to us after playing two years at Cochise College.  Her experience and understanding of the game at the junior college level and having played on quality state qualifying teams at Douglas High School in Arizona will prove to be a valuable addition to our program over the next two years.  Vertrees is a natural leader with high expectations and will help command our midfield. 

“All four players possess the qualities we are looking for as we look to turn the corner in our program,” comments Coach Fickett.  “They bring in a new kind of leadership, commitment and work ethic that has been absent the past few seasons.  The next two years will be exciting for us as we bring in more quality student-athletes.  I am extremely excited for what lies ahead of us!”

Men Volunteer in Griffith

6/10/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s bowling have succeeded on the bowling lanes for the past years Crimson Wave Men's Bowlingbut this time have succeeded in the community.  The Crimson Wave bowlers volunteered their time to help the Griffith Historical Society paint there Train Museum's Depot. 

Griffith's Historical Society primary members are senior citizen's who have had the challenge of repainting the Depot for the last year.  Head Coach Mike Kubacki who serves on the town of Griffith’s downtown revitalization committee offered the help of the team who gladly accepted.

Vania Strikes Head Coaching Position with Crimson Wave

6/7/10 - Calumet College of St. Joseph AthleticRandy Vania Director Peter Haring has announced the hiring of Randy Vania as the new head women’s bowling coach for the Crimson Wave.  Vania will replace Shon Washington as the program’s second head bowling coach since its inception in 2006.

“I am very excited to have Randy as the new head woman’s bowling coach at CCSJ.  His knowledge of the game and of the Crimson Wave bowling program will be valuable in sustaining the success the women’s team has gained the past four seasons,” said Haring. “Randy was instrumental as an assistant with the men’s bowling program, helping the team to the USBC national finals this past season.  The collegiate experience Randy has a acquired under Coach Kubacki has prepared him to accept the head coaching duties of the women’s bowling program.  The CCSJ bowling teams, men and women, have become a nationally recognized and I believe Randy will continue to build upon the tradition of excellence established within the Crimson Wave bowling program.”

Vania served as the CCSJ men’s bowling assistant coach since 2006 helping transform the program into a national powerhouse.  While with the men’s program the team qualified for the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships four straight years and became the 2009-10 USBC National Runners-Up this past season.  Vania was responsible for many important aspects of the men’s program including analyzing lane conditions, pin tracking, recruiting and other responsibilities towards weekly training and tournament preparation. 

“I really feel I can take this successful program to the next level.  There are a lot of good players on this team and I feel like I can shape these players to succeed.  I am really excited to have this opportunity,” said Vania on accepting the position.

Vania’s experience in coaching has also led him to a high school state championship while assisting at Griffith High School in 2007.  He is also a USBC Bronze Level Certified Instructor along and still competes successfully in various USBC sanctioned tournaments as a player. 

The Calumet College of St. Joseph women’s bowling program finished 21st in the final rankings for the 2009-10 season.  During the first four seasons of competition the Crimson Wave women’s bowling program qualified for the USBC Collegiate National Tournament twice (2007-08 & 2008-09).

Marquette Standout Johnson Signs With Crimson Wave

6/4/10 - Mat Johnson of Michigan City Marquette High School has signed his national letter of intent to play Mat Johhsonbasketball for Calumet College of Saint Joseph. The 6’9 Center averaged 9 Points and 12 Rebounds per game in his senior season. Johnson was selected to the All Conference Team in the Greater South Shore Conference. Mat was also named the 2010 Male Athlete of the Year at Michigan City Marquette High School.

“Mat gives us a solid post presence with his size and length,” said Head Coach Ryan Sexson. “He is somebody that has a lot of tools to go along with an outstanding work ethic, so he has the ability to become a really good player on both ends of the floor.”

Marquette Coach Jason Hawkins thinks CCSJ is a perfect fit for Mat. “Mat is getting a chance to go to a great program with very good coaches, said Hawkins.” “I think Mat will really develop in his time at Calumet.” “His work ethic is second to none and I think he will bring a lot to the CCSJ program.”

Johnson chose the Crimson Wave because of the players in the program and the relationship he developed with Coach Sexson. “The guys made me feel very comfortable on my visits,” said Johnson. “I really enjoyed spending time with the players, and the coaching staff treated me very well.” “I feel like it’s a great fit for me.”

Johnson will major in Education at CCSJ. “I really like History and I want to coach when I get done playing.” “I am looking forward to getting better everyday and hopefully contributing to a conference championship.”

Mat Johnson becomes the fourth signee in the CCSJ Men’s Basketball class of 2010.

Gutierrez Finishes 29th at Nationals

5/29/10 - Crimson Wave men’s track and field runner RichardRichard Gutierrez Gutierrez ended his season today in the marathon at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Outdoor Sports Complex in Marion, IN.

Gutierrez ran 2:52.40 in the marathon finishing the event 29th overall. 

This ends a very successful season for the Crimson Wave runner.  Gutierrez qualified for the national meet on March 27th at the Sam Costa Half-Marathon in Carmel, IN.  Gutierrez met the “B” qualifying time running 1:15.54 and finishing fourth.

Hinton Ends Season with Personal Best

5/27/10 – Crimson Wave men’s track and field runner Randy Hinton ended his season tonight in a personal best and schoolRandy Hinton record at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Outdoor Sports Complex in Marion, IN.

Hinton ran a 21.74 in the 200m tonight finishing the event 28th. 

This ends a very successful season for the Crimson Wave senior.  Hinton also qualified for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships and was named CCAC Outdoor Track and Field Most Valuable Runner after winning the 200m and 400m events at the first CCAC conference track and field meet. 

CCSJ Women’s Soccer teams up to raise money for charity

5/24/10 – Crimson Wave Women’s Soccer team members, Linda Munoz and Jen Ransford, presented a $2,296.65 Donationdonation check to Executive Director, Betsy Armstrong, and her staff at Girls on the Run-Chicago on behalf of a co-sponsored 7v7 Spring Fling charity event held at St. Xavier University last month along with University of St. Francis Indiana, Benedictine University, Lewis University, Robert Morris University, Trinity Christian College and Trinity Christian College Alumni.

Girls on the Run is a non-profit program targeting 8-13 year olds to help educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.  This fun, innovative program combines training for a 5K event with interactive lessons that encourages positive emotional, social and mental physical development. The donation will help support a Girls on the Run-Chicago program for 15 girls at one site.

Gutierrez and Hinton to Compete at NAIA Nationals

5/25/10 – Crimson Wave men’s track and fieldRandy Hinton runners Richard Gutierrez and Randy Hinton will compete at the NAIA Outdoor National Track and Field Meet this week May 27-29 at the Outdoor Sports Complex in Marion, IN.  The meet will be hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University. 

Gutierrez qualified for the national meet on March 27th at the Sam Costa Half-Marathon in Carmel, IN.  Gutierrez met the “B” qualifying time running 1:15.54 and finishing fourth.  Richard Gutierrez

Hinton qualified for the national meet after running the “B” qualifying time of 21.96 in the 200m run at the Billy Hays Invite in Bloomington, IN.  Hinton improved on his national qualifying time to 21.89 after finishing 5th overall at the Dr. Keeler Invitational in Naperville, IL.   

“I am very proud to see two well respected student-athletes in Randy and Richard represent CCSJ at the NAIA Outdoor National Championship.  Their efforts have been rewarded during the regular season and now each person can stride to reach a new goal at the national championships.” said Athletic Director Peter Haring

The NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships will start at 10:00 am Thursday May 27th.   Hinton will run the 200m trials at 6:10 pm EST that day.  The 200m semi-finals are scheduled for Saturday May 29th at 3:30 pm EST with the finals at 5:00 pm EST.   Gutierrez will run the marathon on Saturday morning at 6:00 am EST

Hinton Qualifies at Dr. Keeler Invitational

5/16/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s track and field teamRandy Hinton competed at the Dr. Keeler Invitational this weekend.

Senior Randy Hinton added another qualifying time to his already impressive season.  This time in the 400m dash, running a 48.77 and finishing 8th overall.  Hinton’s time qualified him for the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.  Hinton also improved his 200m qualifying time to 21.89 finishing 5th overall. Both times have set new school records in the events.

Brandon Gilbert ran the 100m and 200m finsihing in 11.9 and 24.22 while Ptah El-Aton ran the 200m and 400m finishing in 23.96 and 53.15 s. Tom Moore also ran the 100m and 200m events finishing in 11.77 and 23.09. Robbie Loop finished the 1500m run in 4:34.47 for his only event of the competition.

The NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held May 27-29 at the Outdoor Sports Complex in Marion, IN hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University. 

Davis Finishes 22nd at PGA Minority Championships

5/9/10 – Crimson Wave men’s golfer Ben Davis finished hisBen Davis third and final day of the PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship in 22nd place.  Davis shot a 77 in the first day of action putting him in 5th place overall.  In day two Davis fell a few strokes back shooting an 88 putting him back to 26th.  On day three Davis returned to his original form shooting a 78 and jumping a few spots to 22nd.  Davis shot a 243 for his three day total.

The 54-hole tournament was played Mar. 7-9. The tournament included 22 NCAA Division one and two teams along with Davis the only NAIA player.

Davis finished his freshman season with the Crimson Wave after competing in 11 tournaments. Davis finished 16th overall in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Davis Only NAIA Participant in the PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship

5/7/10 – Crimson Wave freshman men’s golfer Ben Davis is among 34 players chosen to play in the upcoming PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Collegiate Championship at the PGA Golf Club.  The 54-hole tournament will be played Mar. 7-9.  The tournament includes 22 NCAA Division one and two teams along with Davis the only NAIA player.

Davis finished his freshman season with the Crimson Wave after competing in 11 tournaments.  Davis finished 16th overall in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.  “I am really looking forward to the event.  I need to concentrate on my game and enjoy the event.  There should be a lot of good golf at the tournament.”  Said Davis on the tournament

Baseball Ends Season Against Olivet 
    

5/6/10 – The Crimson Wave Baseball team ended their season today with the final game of the series against conference opponent Olivet Nazarene University. 

The series kicked off on Wednesday afternoon with a single nine inning home game for the Crimson Wave.  The men took a 22-1 loss with Kenny Segal scoring the men’s only run.   John Cap took the loss on the mound for the men while Nate Sabol was 1-2 at the plate.
On Thursday the Crimson Wave traveled to Bourbonnais for the final two games of the series.  In game one the Crimson Wave were defeated 11-0 with Luke Boersma and Segal both going 1-2 at the plate.  Kenny Tipman took a loss on the rubber for the men. 

Game two the Crimson Wave were defeated 8-1 with Julian Griffith going 2-3 at the plate scoring the men’s only run.  Nick Bolda took the loss on the mound. 

The Crimson Wave finishes their season with a 4-43 record overall and 3-27 in the CCAC. 

Baseball Takes Loss to Bradley

5/1/10 - The Crimson Wave baseball team took two losses today to NCAA division one opponent  Bradley University 31-4 and 6-0. 

Ben Stepanian took the loss for the Crimson Wave in game one while Ryan Senko was 3-4 from the plate.  Game two Kenny Tipman took the loss on the mound.  Stepanian and Erik Leibengood were both 1-2 at the plate.

The Crimson Wave will travel to Indiana University Northwest tomorrow May 2nd for a 12:00 pm doubleheader.

Ladies Beat Goshen in Doubleheader

5/1/10 – The Crimson Wave softball team ended their season today saying goodbye to senior Christy Atton and defeating Goshen College in both games of a doubleheader 11-4 and 6-2.  The Crimson Wave end the season with a 15-43 record overall and a 4-14 record in the CCAC.

Crimson Wave Ink Crawford at McCutcheon

4/28/10 - Head men’s basketball coach Ryan Sexson has announced the signing of Alantae Crawford from McCutcheon High School in Alantae CrawfordLafayette, IN.  The 6-0 guard averaged 17 points and 5 rebound per game in his senior season for the Mavericks.  Crawford earned a spot on the Lafayette Journal and Courier All-Area Big School First-Team and also participated in the East West All-Star Game.  Rick Bolus of High Potential Recruiting Service ranked Crawford as a top 50 player in the state of Indiana.

“Alantae is a tremendous athlete that gives it everything he has every second he is on the basketball court,” said Sexson. “His ability to defend and score on the wing will be great assets to our basketball program.” “I haven’t seen or heard of anyone who doesn’t think highly of Alantae both on and off the court and we are very happy to add a young man of his character.”

McCutcheon head coach Rick Peckinpaugh says Crawford’s upside is unlimited. “Right now he can jump out of the gym,” Peckinpaugh said. “The best thing he can do now is guard…anybody from 6-5 on down. He is going to be one of the hardest-working kids coach Sexson has ever had. He never takes a minute off.

Crawford chose the CCSJ for a variety of reasons. “I like the style…the way they play,” Crawford said. “I like the environment. I just feel like it will be a great place for me.”

Alantae intends to major in Business Management or Education at CCSJ.
Crawford joins Chris Diehl of Fort Wayne and Brian Brilmyer of Griffith to the Crimson Wave 2010 men’s basketball class.

Men’s Golf Finishes 3rd in the CCAC

4/27/10 – The  Crimson Wave men’s golf team finished in a 3rd place tie with Robert Morris College at the CCAC Golf Championships today.  The men finished day one with a 314 and day two with a 329 for a total of 643.

The men were led by Anthony Johnson who finished 6th overall and was named to the CCAC All-Conference team.  Johnson shot a 77 and 78 for a 155 total.  T.J. Konvalinka was right behind with a 78 and 83 (161 total).  Ben Davis finished one shot behind Konvalinka with a 162 (78 day one and 84 day two).  Steve Rankin finished with a 165 and Gary Ison finished with a 169.

This is the first All-Conference golfer for the men’s golf team at Calumet College of St. Joseph. 

Castillo Signs with the Crimson Wave

4/20/10 – Calumet College of St. Joseph head women’s volleyball coach Andy Marks has signed Hope Castillo fromHope Castillo Gwendolyn Brooks Prep School in Chicago, IL to a national letter of intent to join the Crimson Wave in the fall of 2010.

Castillo will take over the setting position from four year player Kate Delaney.  This will be the first new setter on the floor in four years for the young Crimson Wave.   Castillo comes to the Crimson Wave with a hard work ethic and a great knowledge of the game.  Her physical ability is second to none from the setting position.  Castillo has soft hands and great depth.   This will be a transition phase for the future of the program.

“I am excited to have Hope in our program.  She is a great setter and will have a great college career.  I am excited to have a hard worker and player that will come to practice every day wanting to learn more.  She is a student of the game and will continue to improve her game.  This is a new start to the program, since it is our first new setter in four years.  The end of an era has occurred and a new one has just begun.”  Says Coach Andy Marks on signing Castillo. 

Hinton and Medina Conference Champions

4/17/10 – Crimson Wave men’s track and field runners Randy Hinton and Daniel Medina became conference champions after winning events in the CCAC Conference Track and Field meet today held at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL.  The Crimson Wave finished 4th overall as a team. 

Randy Hinton started his day winning the 400m dash in a time of 49.99s.  Minutes later Hinton took third in the 100m dash running an 11.6s.   Within the hour of finishing the 100m event Hinton took the win in the 200m dash with a time of 22.73s
Daniel Medina won the 400m hurdles in a time of 59.46. 

  Medina also placed 3rd in the 110m high hurdles running a 17.24s.  Tom Moore finished 2nd overall in the 100m dash.  Moore finished the race in 11.54s.

The Crimson Wave 4x100m relay team and the 4x400m relay team each finished 4th overall. 

Men’s Bowling National Runners-Up, Gleghorn Tournament MVP

4/17/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s bowling teams run for their first national title ended in the championship game of the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships.  The men were defeated 2-0 by three time national champion Wichita State University.

The Crimson Wave were defeated in the opening game of the series 232-154.  CCSJ came out in strong in game two but could not overcome the experience of Wichita and were defeated 226-177.
Senior Ryan Gleghorn was named the tournament’s most valuable player after leading the men to their first national finals appearance in its four trips to the Intercollegiate Team Championships.

“I am disappointed that we lost but it also feels good to have been in the finals.  I was shocked when they read my name for the MVP award, I just couldn’t believe it.   I just wish we could have won the title” said Gleghorn.    

Men’s Golf Compete at Bethel

4/17/10 - The Crimson Wave men’s golf team competed at the Sodexho Soring Invitational today hosted by Bethel College.  The men finished 8th overall as a team.

Anthony Johnson finished 34th overall shooting a 170 total while Steve Rankin was right on his heels finishing 35th.  Rankin shot a total of 171.  Ben Davis tied at 37th (173 total) with T.J. Konvalinka and Gary Ison tied at 45th (181 total).

The men will compete at NAIA Regional Championships on Monday April 26th at Heritage Bluffs Golf Course starting at 9:00 am.

4/17/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s bowling program will head to the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championship Finals this afternoon for the first time in program history after defeating Lindenwood University 4-3 in the semi-final round.

“I was very confident we could win.  We just had to make shots like we have all week.” Said Danny Locke

The Crimson Wave took control of the series early with a 1-0 start taking the first game 220-203.  Lindenwood evened out the series with a second game win 234-200.   The Crimson Wave took back control of the series in game three with a 202-184 win.  Game four brought the Crimson Wave a 3-1 series lead in a 182-172 victory.  Game five and six were Lindenwood victories 213-178 and 213-180.  The series again came down to the seventh game for the Crimson Wave.

Game seven started with Mike Kubacki Jr. striking, Lindenwood would match.  Lindenwood would leave frame two open while Toby Kraus spared.  Ryan Alberson would strike the third frame with Lindenwood again matching.  The fourth frame changed the pace of the game when Lindenwood left it open and Sammy Krucek spared.    The Crimson Wave would spare and strike the next five frames along with Lindenwood.  The Crimson Wave only needed six pins in the tenth frame and Senior Ryan Gleghorn once again came through with seven pins and a Crimson Wave victory. 

“Pretty unreal, I still can’t believe it.  The team bowled great.   I am glad we did this” said Ryan Gleghorn on the win. 

The men will face off against Wichita State University in the championship round of play today at 2:00 pm (GMT).  Each team enters the championship round undefeated in this best of three series. 

Bowling Heads to Final Four

4/16/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s bowling team defeated Rochester Institute of Technology in the 3rd round of play for their first ever berth to the final four at the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships. 

The 3rd round win did not come easy for the Crimson Wave as RIT took them to six games.    The Crimson Wave took control early on and won game one 205-170.  Game two went to the Crimson Wave 200-181 after the men struck six times.  RIT edged out the men in game three 207-202 despite five Crimson Wave strikes.

The men would throw seven strikes to grab game four 223-184 and a 3-1 series lead.  Game five would bring another five Crimson Wave strikes but a defeat to make a 3-2 series lead for the men.   Game six would come down to the tenth.

The Crimson Wave struck the first three frames before sparing the fourth.  The men would grab three more straight strikes thereafter.    RIT came out leaving frame one open then striking the next six frames.  The eighth frame would be left open for the Crimson Wave while RIT spared giving RIT a 215-212 lead.  The tenth frame saw a spare strike by RIT while Ryan Gleghorn would give the Crimson Wave two strikes and eight pins for a 240-235 victory.

“I knew he could do it, it was just about making the shot.  I knew he could do it and would.  When he made both of them it was amazing. “  said teammate Sammy Krucek on Gleghorn’s final shots.
The men will roll in the semi-finals match at 8:00 am tomorrow (April 17) morning.  The Crimson Wave’s opponent has yet to be determined.   

Men Escape McKendree in Second Round

4/16/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s bowling team narrowly escaped McKendree College in the second round of the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships.   This is the first time in the men’s four consecutive appearances that they have started the bracket play winning both the first and second rounds.

The second round match up started to look like a battle of lane 31 as all but the seventh game was one on that lane.   Game one belonged to McKendree 237-186 with the Crimson Wave leaving the ninth frame open.  Game two of the series was a Crimson Wave victory 206-192.  Game three went back to McKendree’s favor 260-170.  Game four saw the series tied at 2-2 with a Crimson Wave victory 214-162 after McKendree Crimson Waveleft four open frames. 

A game five victory by McKendree gave them a 3-2 series lead 257-156.  A 173-169 Crimson Wave victory in the sixth game set up a nerve racking seventh game that would come down to the last ball.

The Crimson Wave would jump out to a 107-84 after McKendree left the fifth frame open.   The sixth frame would be open for the Crimson Wave and a spare for McKendree.    Both teams would spare in the seventh while the Crimson Wave struck in the eighth.  The McKendree spare in the eighth gave the men 155-139 lead.  CCSJ would leave the ninth frame open gathering only nine pins.  McKendree rolled their ninth frame grabbing 9 pins on the first ball.  The Crimson Wave stood and watched as McKendree missed the spare and put the game back up for grabs. 

Going into the tenth frame the men would need fifteen pins for the victory.  Ryan Gleghorn rolled the first ball for the men and picked up 9 pins.  McKendree would strike their first ball and second ball.  Gleghorn closed out his second roll picking up the single pin.  McKendree would strike the third ball of the frame putting the pressure on the Crimson Wave.  “I just wanted to throw a good ball and hit the pocket” said Gleghorn.  That is just what he did grabbing 9 pins.  “As soon as I let it go I turned around and starting walking back, I knew it was!”  Gleghorns 9 pins were four more than need for the Crimson Wave second round victory. 

The Crimson Wave will match up against Rochester Institute of Technology in the 3rd round for the chance at a semi-final berth. 

Men Win in First Round

4/16/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s bowling team have won their first round match up for the first time in their four straight appearances at the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships.

The Crimson Wave defeated Arizona State University four games to two.  The first game of the series was the closest going to Arizona State 193-191 after the Crimson Wave left three pins standing in the tenth frame. Ryan Gleghorn

Game two of the series was all Crimson Wave after the men strung together four strikes between the sixth and ninth frames to win 203-173.   Game three was a Crimson Wave blowout with the men striking in frames one, three, four, and 7-10 to take win 213-161 and a 2-1 series lead.   The men got off to a good start in game four but left three open frames to let ASU steal the game 183-158.

Games five and six were Crimson Wave wins with seven strikes in each game giving the men  a 221-185 win in game 5 and a 224-163 win in game 6. 

The Crimson Wave will take on McKendree College in the second round starting at 9:45 am.  McKendree defeated Central Florida in the opening round 4-2.

Bowling 3rd After Seeding Round

4/15/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s bowling team finished the seeding round of the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships in 3rd place. 

The men came out focused and determined to put themselves in great position for the bracket rounds.  The Crimson Wave finished the first four baker games in fourth place.  During the next eight games the men would fall back as far as eighth.  Games 8-12 the men refocused and found themselves in fourth just 56 pins out of second.  The final four morning baker games brought the Crimson Wave into second place after 13 straight strikes and a 279 game. 

After the break the men would stay in third place for most of the next 16 baker games only dropping back to fifth for a single set. 

The men will start bracket play tomorrow in 3rd place facing off against the number 14 seed Arizona State University.   Bracket play is a double elimination style tournament. 

Ladies Split with the Trolls

4/13/10 -  The Crimson Wave softball team split with the Trinity Christian College Trolls winning game one 9-1 and giving the Trolls game two 8-0.     

Maya Medrano and Jessica Miles led the way for the Crimson Wave in game one, each going 3-3 at the plate along with one run scored.  Becky Liebermann was 2-2 with one run scored and Lisa Moriarty was 1-1 with one run scored.  Betty Fuentes got the win on the mound in just 5 innings.

The ladies will travel to St. Joseph’s college on Thursday April 15 for a 3:00 pm match up with the Pumas.   

Men Finish 13th at USF Spring Invite

4/13/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s golf team finished 13th at the University of St. Francis Spring Invite.  The men were led by Ben Davis who shot an 82 on the day.  Teammates T.J. Konvalinka, Anthony Johnson, and Steve Rankin stayed right on his heels shooting an 83, 84 and 85.  Gary Ison finished his day with a 91 for the men.  The men scored a 334 as a team.

The men’s next event will come on Friday April 16th when the men compete at the Bethel Big Time Challenge.  The event will be held at Blackthorn Golf Course starting at 12:00 pm.   

Men Compete at Chicagolands

4/10/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s track and field team competed at the Chicagolands Invitational this weekend at the University of Chicago.

Randy Hinton took a 3rd place finish in the 100m dash running a time of 11.11s.  Hinton also took 5th in the 200m dash running a 22.30.  Jordon Harris finished 14th in the decathlon and Daniel Medina took 14th in the 400m hurdles running 1:00.39.  The Crimson Wave 4X100m relay team of Brandon Gilbert, Randy Hinton, Tom Moore, and Dominique Smith finished 9th overall finishing in 45.31. 

The Crimson Wave will be back in action on Saturday April 17th at the CCAC Conference Meet in Bourbonnais, IL .

Men Finish 6th at St. Francis Invite

4/10/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s golf team finished 6th overall at the University of St. Francis Invitational this weekend.   T.J. Konvalinka finished 3rd overall shooting an 80 on day one and a 77 on day two.    Anthony Johnson finished with an 82 and a 79 while Steve Rankin shot a 91 and 86.  Ben Davis finished his two days with a 92 and 83 to round out the group.

The men will compete in the CCAC Tournament on Tuesday April 13th at Wedgewood GC hosted by the University of St. Francis.

Men’s Track and Field Compete at Poehlein

4/3/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s track and field team competed at the Poehlein Invitational this weekend hosted by Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN.

The Crimson Wave men were led by an 8th place finish by the 4x100m relay team of Brandon Gilbert, Randy Hinton, Tom Moor, and Dominique Smith.  The team ran a 45.12 for their first outdoor meet of the season.  Randy Hinton finished 13th overall in the 100m dash in a time of 11.24.   Robbie Loop also finished 13th in the 300m Steeplechase.  Loop sustained an injury during the race but managed to finish in a time of 11:24.33.

The Crimson Wave men will take this week to prepare for the Chicagolands this weekend April 9-10. 

Brilmyer Chooses the Crimson Wave

4/1/10 - Head men’s basketball coach Ryan Sexson has announced the signing of Brian Brilmyer of Griffith, IN. The 6-6 forward comes to Brian BrilmyerCalumet College of Saint Joseph after a successful prep career at Griffith High School where he averaged 11 points and 5 rebound per game in his senior season. Brilmyer was selected as an all conference player in the Northwest Crossroads Conference in both his junior and senior seasons.

  “Brian can do a lot of things on the basketball court,” said Coach Sexson. “He is a very good shooter from beyond the arc, but he can also score in a variety of ways around the basket.” “His size and length make him a very good rebounder as well.” “Brian is going to be an outstanding player for us, and we are very happy to have him in our program.”

Brilmyer will major in Education while at CCSJ.  “I enjoy working with kids, and I hope to one day be able to Coach, “said Brilmyer. “Everyone here was very nice and they made me feel welcome.”

Brian chose CCSJ because he felt comfortable with the players on the team and the relationship with the coaching staff. “All of the guys on the team really embraced me from the beginning,” said Brilmyer. “Coach Sexson has been watching me for a while now and I feel that he can make me a better basketball player.”  “I felt CCSJ would be the best fit for me as a student and a basketball player.” 

“Brian is a very good kid that comes from a really good family,” said Sexson. “He will be a tremendous asset to our basketball program.”

Brilmyer joins 6-7 forward Chris Diehl of Butler, IN as members of the 2010 CCSJ men’s basketball class.

Crimson Wave Defeat Trolls

3/29/10 – The Crimson Wave baseball team defeated the Trinity Christian College Trolls last night 11-7 in a seven inning makeup game.
The Crimson Wave jumped out to an early 3-1 first inning lead.  The Crimson Wave scored 5 second inning runs to take a commanding 8-1 lead.   A few innings later the Crimson Wave held off a small Troll rally and took the game 11-7.

Chris Banks was 2-3 at the plate and John Chance was 3-4.    Chance, Ben Stepanian, and Luke Boersma all had 3 RBI’s.   Stepanian also took the win on the mound.

The Crimson Wave will travel to St. Xavier University Wednesday March 31st for a 3:30 pm conference match up. 

Ladies Take Two From the Trojans

3/23/10 –The Crimson Wave softball team participated in a rare occurrence Tuesday against Trinity International University when they took their home field as the visiting team.  The Trojan field was unplayable from the weekend storm and was moved to Standard Diamonds.

In game one, the Crimson Wave started out by plating two runs.  While the Crimson Wave would score more, it was all pitcher, Jessica Noble needed to get the win.   She scattered four hits by the Trojans over seven innings for the 7-0 shutout victory. Not only did Noble get it done on the mound, but at the plate as well, with a single, a run scored and an RBI. 

Christy Atton led the offense with a 2-3 showing, scoring two and two RBI, while Jessica Pabey went 1-2 with a run scored and two RBI.  Ashley Berumen also contributed with a 1-3 effort on a blast that would only be contained in Standard Diamonds for a double that drove in a run. 

In game two, the visiting Crimson Wave picked up right where game one left off.  Atton took the mound for the nightcap.  While she threw a great game earning the victory and working three innings with three hits, three runs (just one earned) and two strikeouts, it was her bat that electrified the crowd with a 4-5 performance, scoring four runs and driving in two.

Everyone that was in the lineup got on base; however Pabey would lead the way getting two hits, scoring two runs and four RBI and Noble came off the bench to get two hits, scoring one run and one RBI.  Betty Fuentes came in to get valuable experience and did a great job keeping the Trojan hitters off-balance. 

CCSJ improved their overall record to 9-19 and 2-0 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Crimson Wave look to continue their winning ways against a dangerous Robert Morris University team.  The double header will be played on Wednesday March 24th in Bensenville, IL starting at 3:00 pm.

Softball Location Change

3/23/10 – The Crimson Wave softball game to be played at Trinity International University this afternoon has been changed to home.   The game will be played at the Crimson Wave’s home field location of Standard Diamonds on 119th street in Whiting, IN.  The game time will remain the same at 3:00 pm.

3/22/10 – The Crimson Wave softball game today March 22nd at Robert Morris University has been postponed to Wednesday March 24th at 3:00 pm.  The game will remain at Robert Morris. 

Baseball Gets First Conference Win of the Season

3/20/10 – The Crimson Wave baseball team won their first conference game of the season today against the Trinity Christian College Trolls 6-1.

The game started off to a slow start over the first three innings with the Crimson Wave taking a small 2-1 lead.  The Crimson Wave started off the bottom of the 4th inning with back to back singles from Kenny Segal and Adam CobbJohn Chance hit a double to knock in two of the Crimson Wave’s three runs to give the men a 5-1 advantage.  The fifth inning brought a double from Luke Boersma and the final Crimson Wave run.

Chance gave up only 2 hits and struck out three on the day taking the win.

The Crimson Wave will host St. Xavier University on Tuesday March 23rd at 1:30 pm.

Mustang trio commits to the Crimson Wave

3/20/10 - Head coach Peter Haze Haring proudly announces the signing of Matt Carlson, Pedro Gomez and Jorge Barba as the first three committed recruits for 2010-11 men’s soccerPedro Gomez, Jorge Barba, Matt Carlson season.  Coach Haring traveled into the south Chicagoland area and corralled three quality Mustang players from St. Rita High School to be a part of the Crimson Wave tradition at Calumet College of St. Joseph.

 Carlson is a fast, smart, aggressive striker who will add depth to the offensive fire-power for the Crimson Wave this fall.  Haring comments on Carlson as being “a player who makes smart soccer decisions with his attacking runs.  His quick play and awareness within the offensive third of the field will become a major impact on the goal scoring success of the team.  Matt will bring a ton of intensity and effort to the Crimson Wave men’s soccer program.”

Gomez is a crafty outside midfielder who has good pace and field vision.  “Pedro will have the opportunity to gain quality game time minutes as an outside midfielder because of his uncanny ability to play quality passes into a striking run.  What I really like about Gomez is his field vision along with his ability to go 1v1 as an outside player.   He could be a key play-maker for the Crimson Wave this fall. “

Barba will be contending for the starting goalkeeper position.  Haring comments on Barba, “Jorge will get every opportunity to earn the chance to fill the goalkeeping position this fall.  He has a solid presence inside of the goal box and is deceptive with his ability to make quick saves.  His work ethic to the goalkeeping position is strong and I know he is motivated to earn the spot as the team’s keeper this upcoming season.”

The Crimson Wave men’s soccer team looses six starting players due to graduation this spring.  Of the six graduating players five were starters who played all four seasons and were the foundation of the men’s soccer program which began in the fall of 2006.  Carlson, Gomez and Barba will add a new level of skill, commitment and effort to the Crimson Wave soccer program at Calumet College of St. Joseph.  Haring concludes, “All three players are quality additions to the CCSJ men’s team and will be considered the next group of young men to lead the team to a new level of success.”

Crimson Wave Softball Takes Losses at Marian

3/17/10 – The Crimson Wave softball team took losses in both games of a double header at Marian University Tuesday night 12-4 and 10-0.  In game one Jessica Pabey was 1-3 with one run and Caitlin Black was 1-2.

In game two Jessica Miles and Angela Naranjo-Peacock were each 1-2 at the plate. 

The Crimson Wave will travel to Robert Morris University on Monday March 22nd for a 3:00 pm CCAC matchup. 

Men Qualify for Nationals 4th Straight Time

3/14/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s bowling team finished 4th at the Peoria, IL sectional to qualify for the 2010 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships for the fourth straight year.

The Crimson Wave men tallied 12,718 pins to keep their season alive and a trip to the national tournament.  The men finished 161pins in front of Morehead State University who had held the fourth place position at the beginning of day two.

The Crimson Wave will travel to the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships in El Paso, TX April 14-16, 2010.

3/14/10 – The Crimson Wave women’s bowling team finished 8th overall at the 2010 USBC Intercollegiate Team Sectional in Chattanooga, TN.

The Crimson Wave ladies finished the sectional with 11,114 pins 622 pins short of the fourth place qualifying position.  This was the last tournament of the year for the Crimson Wave women. 

Men’s Bowling 5th after Day One

3/13/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s bowling team is currently in 5th place after the first day of competition at the Peoria, IL 2010 Intercollegiate Team Championships Sectional Qualifier. 

The Crimson Wave men have accumulated 6,355 total pins after the first 32 baker games.  The Crimson Wave trail the national qualifying position by 62 pins currently held by Morehead State University.

In the singles portion of the sectional the Crimson Wave’s Ryan Alberson finished 13th overall with a pin total of 1,272. 
The men will finish the sectional tomorrow with the remaining 32 baker games. 

Women’s Bowling 10th After Day One

3/13/10 – The Crimson Wave women’s bowling team is currently in 10th place after the first day of competition at the Chattanooga, TN 2010 Intercollegiate Team Championships Sectional Qualifier. 

The Crimson Wave women have tallied 5,443 total pins after the first 32 baker games.  The women are currently 369 pins out of the 4th place qualifying position that is held by Purdue University.

The ladies will finish the sectional tomorrow with the remaining 32 baker games. 

Wrestling Finishes at Nationals

3/7/10 – The Crimson Wave wrestling team finished their season at the NAIA Wrestling National Championships thisArtie Grubba After a Win weekend.  Sophomore Artie Grubba placed in the top 12 for the Crimson Wave.  “We obviously didn’t do as well as we wanted to. This is a young team and a first year program and the guys really worked hard.  This will give the guys a lot of experience for the coming years and more importantly a great life experience. “ Said Head Coach Leroy Vega.

Senior Dan Bedoy lost his opening match of the tournament, sustaining an injury that would keep him out the rest of the tournament.   Sophomore Chad Allen was also defeated his first match of the tourney.  Freshmen Nick Fouts and Dustin Boyd were also defeated in their first two match ups. 
   
After a first round bye Derek Allen won his first match of tournament over Dan Hutcheson (DWU) 5-2.   Allen suffered his first lost in the third round against Byron Kuylen (UGF) 6-2.   Allen would end his run against Andy Shoultz (CU), being pinned a 1:14 into the match up. 

Grubba was pinned in his first round match by John Bates (SOU) 2:02 into the match.  Grubba came out his second match focused and pinned Alex Will (MCIA) in 1:04.   Grubba would pin Zach Marshall (LWC) in his second win of the tournament in just a 1:39.  Grubba’s run would end against Jeremy Colbert (BAC) 9-5.

This marks the end of the 2009-2010 Crimson Wave wrestling season.  “I am excited for next season.  We have a lot of good wrestlers returning, along with adding some great talent to the room.  The program is only heading up and I can’t wait for the future.”  Said Vega.

Women’s Tennis Sinks the Eagles

3/6/10 – The Crimson Wave women’s tennis team sunk the Judson University Eagles 8-1 this weekend.

Christina Sendejas and Lizeth Quezada won their doubles match 8-6.  Ashley Cherry and Jessica Orozco escaped their doubles match with a win 9-7 while Angelica Guzman and Angela Hughes were perfect winning 8-0. 

Sendejas defeated Danielle Sum 6-6 and 6-4, Cherry defeated Kristen Kress 6-0, 6-2 and Hughes dfeated Melissa Vivian 6-0, and 6-4.  Guzman and Murphy each controlled their match the whole way with Guzman wining over Angela Schultz 6-0, 6-1 and Murphy cruising past Averi Kirchner 6-0, 6-0. 

The Crimson Wave tennis team will host Adrian College Wednesday March 10 at 10:00 am.  The match will be held at Match Point Tennis Club in Griffith, IN.

Tennis Stays Close with Judson

3/6/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s tennis team stayed close with the Judson University Eagles this weekend.  The Crimson Wave were defeated 6-3 in close fought battle.

Julian Martinez and Kyle Kocsis took a win in the doubles portion on a Judson forfeit.  Tommy Cherry defeated Judson’s Jesse Perez 6-3, 6-0 and Kocsis again got his win on a forfeit.  Stephan McClain and Victor Villegas each took their singles match to three.

The Crimson Wave tennis team will host Adrian College Wednesday March 10 at 10:00 am.  The match will be held at Match Point Tennis Club in Griffith, IN.

Hinton Sets School Records at Nationals

3/5/10 – Crimson Wave men’s track and field runner Randy Hinton set two school records today in the 200m and 400mRandy Hinton runs at the NAIA National Track and Field Championships in Johnson City, TN.
In the 400m run Hinton ran a time of 49.67s, finishing 15th overall in the preliminaries.  In the 200m run Hinton set the new mark at 21.99s again landing him 15th overall in the preliminaries.
  
“Randy definitely came out today and left it all out there.  He came out prepared and focused and it showed.   He ran a great race in the 200m today.  We are really excited to concentrate on the 200m in the outdoor season. “ said Head Coach Don Reed

This marks the end of the indoor track and field season for the Crimson Wave men.  The men will open the outdoor season April 3-4 at the Polheim Invitational in West Lafayette, IN.

Men’s Track National Championships

3/4/10 – Crimson Wave men’s track and field runner Randy Hinton is currently in Johnson City, TN at the NAIA National Track and Field Championships.

Hinton will run the semi-finals of the 200m and 400m runs on Friday March 5th.   The 400m run will take place at 3:10 pm and the 200m run taking place at 6:25 pm.

Hinton qualified for the NAIA National Championships at the Taylor University Invite on the February 6th in the 400m and 200m runs. In the 400m run Hinton ran a 50.24 meeting the national b standard for qualifying. A few races later Hinton won the 200m run in a time of 22.55 seconds to give him the national b standard.

Wrestling at NAIA National Championships

3/3/10 – The Crimson Wave wrestling team will open the NAIA National Championships at 1:00 pm tomorrow at Oklahoma City University.

Sophomore Chad Allen will wrestle Michael Schulz (GVU) in his first match.  Freshman Nick Fouts (141 lb) will face Kyle Wirkuty of (SOU) while teammate freshman Derek Allen (149 lb )received a first round bye.  Senior Dan Bedoy (174 lb) will also receive a first bye.  Freshman Dustin Boyd (184 lb) will face Mark Peiffer (DC) and to round out the Crimson Wave heavy weight Artie Grubba will start out against John Bates (SOU).

“I am really excited to be here.  These guys have worked hard all season and deserve this opportunity.  We have had a strong week of practice and have put ourselves in a great position to do well. “ said coach Leroy Vega

Hinton Wins 200m at Fred Wilt

2/27/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s track and field team competed at the Fred Wilt Invitational this weekend at Anderson University in Anderson, IN.

Randy Hinton won the 200m run in a time of 22.66.  Richard Gutierrez set a school record in the 5000m run with a time of 16:01.5.  Gutierrez finished 6th in the race.  Jordon Harris finished 5th in the 1000m run.  Robbie Loop finished in 6th place in the 3000m Steeplechase.

Crimson Wave Roll on With One Point Win

2/25/10 – The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team advances to conference championship game win a thrilling one point victory, 70-69, over cross-town rival Purdue University – Calumet. 

The first half started off slow the Peregrines of PUC grabbing an early 9-3 lead at the 15:06 mark of the game.  The Crimson Wave would chip away and eventually tie the game 16-16 with 10:20 left on the clock due to sophomore Mehgan Jagielski’s three three-point buckets.  Both teams would exchange baskets during the rest of the first half with Purdue Calumet taking a four point half-time lead 37-33.  Senior Sarah Keilman led the Peregrines with 14 first half points while junior Jackie Feldpaush carried the team with 11 points, she would finish the night with 17 points and 5 rebounds.

The second half of the heated contest became hotter as the Crimson Wave would take their first lead of the game 51-45 at the 14:57 mark of the half.  Junior Chabria Survillian (11 second half points, 14 for the game) and Desiree Miller (12 rebounds for the game) contributed to the surge made by the Crimson Wave.  Miller would also shut down the inside presence of Keilman by only allowing her to score four second-half points.  The Peregrines continued to battle against the cross-town foes with sophomore Stephanie Beck scoring 15 second half points, 21 for the game to led all scorers.  PUC would take a four point lead, 64-60, with 5:57 remaining in the game.  CCSJ’s Tisa Carter would be the key player in the second half as she collected 10 of her team high 13 rebounds to prevent Purdue – Calumet any second chance opportunities late in the game.  As time ticked away and each team swapping one point leads junior Lisa Upshaw (10 points, 7 rebounds) stole a Peregrine pass and drove the length of the court to give the Crimson Wave a one point led 70-69 with 35 seconds remaining in the game.  Purdue – Calumet had one more chance to take the game from the host CCSJ but a missed three point basket by Beck and then an under the basket layup by Keilman was short denying the Peregrines a chance to the win from CCSJ.    The Crimson Wave was able to run out the clock to seal the one point victory and advance to the conference championship on Saturday afternoon against Cardinal Stritch University. 

The win over Purdue – Calumet gives the Crimson Wave their fifteenth victory of the season.  The victory by the women’s team also marks the first conference championship appearance for Calumet College of St. Joseph during its ten year history as an athletic department. 

USBC Sectional Pairings Announced

2/24/10 – The USBC has announced the pairings for the 2010 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championship sectionals.

The Crimson Wave men have been assigned to the Peoria Sectional.  The sectional will be held at Landmark Lanes in Peoria, IL.  The sectional includes the current No. 1 team in Wichita State University, No. 7 Newman University, No. 13 Wright State University.  The Crimson Wave men are currently ranked No. 10 and will look to improve upon last year’s 4thplace finish.

The Crimson Wave women’s team will travel south to the Chattanooga Sectional held at Holiday Bowl Brainerd in Chattanooga, TN.  The Crimson Wave women’s team is currently ranked 21st.  Sectional opponents include No. 1 Central Florida, No. 6 Lindenwood, and No. 9 Maryland-Eastern Shore.  The Crimson Wave women finished 4th last year in the Fairview Heights sectional. 

The Crimson Wave men and women will compete at the 2010 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championship sectionals on March 11-14.

Men Dominate the Peregrines to Advance

2/23/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team dominated the Purdue University Calumet Peregrines tonight in the opening round of the CCAC tournament 85-64.

The Crimson Wave came out on fire tonight as CJ Montgomery hit back to back three pointers to start the game.  At the 14:48 mark Wilfredo Escobar drained a three from the top of the key to start a 26-8 run that gave the Crimson Wave a 21 point advantage.  The Crimson Wave never let up and took a 25 point lead into the locker room at the half 50-25.  Escobar scored 17 of his 19 points in the first half.

The Crimson Wave came out in the second half with the same intensity shooting 48.5% from the field.  Robert Pogue grabbed 6 second half rebounds to go along with 9 Keith Dean points.
Escobar led four double digit scorers for the Crimson Wave with 19 points.  Montgomery threw in 16, Antonio Hurt 15 and Dean 14 points.

The Crimson Wave will advance to the second round of the CCAC tournament, traveling to Milwaukee, WI on Thursday February 25th to face the tournament’s No. 1 seed Cardinal Stritch University. 

Escobar Named CCAC Player of the Week

2/23/10 – Crimson Wave guard Wilfredo Escobar recorded two double-doubles last week and missed a triple double byWilfredo Escobar two assists against Purdue University-Calumet. For his performances, Escobar has been named CCAC Men's Basketball Division II Player of the Week for the week ending February 21.

In an 85-64 win over Purdue University-North Central, Escobar had 18 points, 10 assists and six rebounds. He made 6-of-12 shots, including 3-of-6 from the three-point line. He also converted on 3-of-4 free throws.

CCSJ came up short against Purdue-Calumet, 78-74, but Escobar put together another great game with 15 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds. He hit all four of his free throw attempts.

In the two games combined, Escobar averaged 16.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 10.0 assists per game. He averages 3.6 assists per game which ranks fifth in the CCAC.

The Crimson Wave and Purdue-Calumet will be battling again on Tuesday night in the first round of the CCAC Tournament.

Upshaw Named CCAC Player of the Week

2/23/10 - With the CCAC Tournament's No. 2 seed on the line,  the Crimson Wave and Purdue-Calumet battled on Lisa UpshawSaturday for the high seed and a first-round bye. CCSJ slipped by with a 65-63 win and junior guard Lisa Upshaw was outstanding as she led the Crimson Wave to their highest CCAC finish in program history.   For her performance, Upshaw has been named the CCAC Women's Basketball Division II Player of the Week for the week ending February 21.

Upshaw had a game-high 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting. She hit 5-of-8 three-point field goals and converted on 4-of-5 free throws. She also had eight rebounds, two assists, three blocks, and four steals.

Upshaw averages 14.0 points per game which ranks fourth in the CCAC.

After not winning a game in either of the last two seasons, the Crimson Wave finished with a 5-5 conference record to finish tied for second in the standings. The Crimson Wave will host the winner of the game between Trinity Christian and Purdue-Calumet on Thursday at 7:00 pm.

4x200m Relay Wins at Trine

2/22/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s track and field team competed at the Trine Invitational this past weekend at Trine University in Angola, IN.

The 4x200m relay team of Nate Haverstock, Randy Hinton, Tom Moore, and Joe Efantis finished first overall with a time of 1:33.04.  The winning time also sets a school record in the event.    The 4x400m relay team of Haverstock, Hinton, Moore, and Efantis finished second overall with a time of 3:28.97.

The Crimson Wave track team will run their final indoor event of the season at the Fred Wilt Invitational in Anderson, IN on February 27th. 

Ladies Defeat PUC, Take 2nd in CCAC

2/20/10 – The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team defeated cross town rival and CCAC opponent the Purdue University Calumet Peregrines 65-63.

The women came out strong jumping to a six point lead seven minutes into play.  The ladies lead did not last long and the Peregrines tied the game at 13 points apiece with 8:54 remaining in the half.  Over the next seven minutes of play the Crimson Wave would go on a 20-5 run starting with Joselyn Gray field goal.  Jackie Feldpausch would pour in eight of the ladies points along with two three pointers from Lisa Upshaw and four more points from Gray.   The game slowed for the last minute of play and the Crimson Wave went to the locker room ahead by 13, 35-22.

Throughout the second half the Peregrines chipped away at the Crimson Wave lead, though never taking a lead of their own.   Upshaw would pour in 12 points over the first 10 minutes of play to keep the Crimson Wave ahead.   With 4:04 remaining in the half the ladies found themselves clinging to a four point lead.  Feldpausch scored the Crimson Wave’s next eight points but the Peregrines would answer each time.  With 19 seconds left in play the Peregrines Jennifer Britton hit a three from the wing to cut the Crimson Wave lead to one.    The Peregrines fouled Tisa Carter in the attempt to gain back possession.  Carter would hit one of two from the line.  The Peregrines would come up with the rebound and headed to the offensive end.  Moneva Fields came up with her only steal of the night and the Crimson Wave held on for the win. 

Upshaw led the Crimson Wave with 25 points along with Feldpausch’s 20 points.   The Crimson Wave victory sealed their second place conference finish and a first round bye in the CCAC Tournament.

The ladies will host a second round conference tournament game on Thursday February 25th at 7:00 pm. 

Men Fall Short at Home against PUC

2/20/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team came up short on Saturday against cross town rival and CCAC opponent the Purdue University Calumet Peregrines 78-74. 

The first half started slow for the Crimson Wave as they fell behind four 6-2 in the first two minutes of play.  The Crimson Wave would not let the Peregrines lead last for long grabbing their own four point lead off of back to back jumpers from Antonio Hurt and Keith Dean.  The final minutes of the half would be a bitter back and fourth game of shooting that landed Hurt sixteen first half points going 8-11 from the field and Crimson Wave a one point half time lead, 34-33. 

Over the first minutes of play in the second half Hurt and Wilfredo Escobar took control of the game leading the Crimson Wave to a 10-0 run to a score of 43-33.  The Crimson Wave would hold their lead much of the second half until a small Peregrine run gave PUC a one point lead 54-53 near the 8 minute mark.  The Peregrines would build a small lead of their own making the game 62-57 with 5:50 left in play.  Escobar would answer back burying a three and two free throws to bring the game to its seventh tie of the night at 65 apiece with 3:21 on the clock. 

The Crimson Wave found them in a back in forth game and down one point with 39 seconds reaming.   After a missed Crimson Wave three the men fouled to gain possession.  The Peregrines split on from the free throw line and time ran out for the Crimson Wave. 

The men were led by 27 points and 7 rebounds from Hurt going 12-17 from the field and 3-3 from the charity stripe.    Escobar added 15 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds for the men.  Escobar made good on all four free throw attempts. 

The Crimson Wave (11-19, 4-8) will host Purdue Calumet in the opening round of the CCAC tournament on Tuesday February 23rd at 7:00 pm.  The game will be played on Alumni Court on the campus of CCSJ.

Men Sink Purdue North Central

2/17/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team sunk the Purdue University North Central Panthers tonight 85-64.

The Crimson Wave were led by 24 points from Keith Dean, 18 points from Wilfredo Escobar, 16 and 11 points from C.J. Montgomery and Robert Pogue.

The Crimson Wave (11-18, 4-7) will host Purdue University Calumet Saturday February 20th at 3:00 pm in the final regular season conference game.  This game will honor the Crimson Wave seniors along with being a school wide event in homecoming. 

Men Compete at Hoosier Hills and Wildcat Invites
        

2/13/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s track and field team competed at the Hoosier Hills Invitational on Friday night in Bloomington, IN and Saturday at the Wildcat Invitational on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University. 

Richard Gutierrez set a school record at the Hoosier Hills meet in the 3000m run with a time of 9:09.28.  The   4x400m relay team of Joe Efantis, Tom Moore, Randy Hinton, Nate Haverstock also set a school record finishing in 3:25.96.

The Crimson Wave men will have their last chance to qualify for the NAIA National meet this Friday February 19 and Saturday February 20 when they travel to the Trine Invitational in Angola, IN and the Silverstein Invite in Ann Arbor, MI. 

Ladies Take Loss to Stritch

2/13/10 – The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team took a conference loss to the Cardinal Stritch University Wolves 75-48.

The ladies were led by 14 points from Lisa Upshaw and 11 points from Jackie Feldpausch.    

The Crimson Wave (13-16) will play their last regular season game on February 20 at 1:00 pm against cross town CCAC rival Purdue University Calumet at Alumni Court on the campus of CCSJ. 

Men Fall to No. 9 Stritch 
             

2/13/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team fell to NAIA No. 9 the Cardinal Stritch University Wolves 79-66.

The men were led by 14 points from Robert Pogue and 12 points from Antonio Hurt.

The Crimson Wave (10-18) will travel to Purdue University North Central Wednesday February 17 for a 7:00 pm CCAC conference match up. 

Men Take Hard Loss to Eagles   

2/10/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team lost to conference rival the Judson University Eagles 83-62.

The men came out strong starting the game on a 7-0 run with points from Wilfredo Escobar, Brannon Jones, and Antonio Hurt.  This would be the last Crimson Wave lead of the night as the Eagles made their own run taking the lead with 15:03 left in the half.  The Crimson Wave went to the locker room down 39-20 at the half.

The men made a couple of runs in the second half getting the Eagles lead down to 13 points with 14:50 left in the game.  The Eagles slowly built the lead back to 19 points over the next 8 minutes of play.  The Crimson Wave’s second run of the half brought the lead down to 16 points but the men could not hold on and gave the game to the Eagles. 

The Crimson Wave were led by 22 points and four assists from Escobar.  The men will head to Cardinal Stritch University on Saturday February 13 for a 3:00 pm CCAC match up. 

Ladies Lose to Rival Judson

2/10/10 - The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team lost to conference rival Judson University 62-52 after having a seven point halftime lead.

The ladies jumped out to an early seven point lead 12-5 at the 13:35 mark in the first half after four straight free throws by Moneva Fields and two from Jackie Feldpausch.   Judson slowly chipped away and took a one point lead 17-16 with 5:55 remaining.  The Crimson Wave would not let the Eagles lead last long and went into the break ahead 30-23.  The Crimson Wave were 14-15 in the first half from the free throw line. 

The second half the ladies came out to a slow start and gave the lead to Judson early on.  The Crimson Wave would trail the rest of the half giving the game to Judson. 
The ladies were led by 10 points apiece from Feldpausch and Lisa Upshaw.

The Crimson Wave will travel to Milwaukee, WI on Saturday February 13 to take on Cardinal Stritch University in a 1:00 pm match up. 

Upshaw Named CCAC Player of the Week

2/10/10 - The Crimson Wave won two CCAC women's basketball games last week as they quickly climbed up to third-place in the standings.  Junior guard Lisa Upshaw (East Lisa UpshawChicago, IN) led the team in scoring in both of those victories and has been named CCAC Women's Basketball Division II Player of the Week for the week ending February 7.

In a close game against Trinity International, the score was tied with 15 seconds remaining. The Crimson Wave immediately got the ball down the court to Upshaw who missed a layup from the left side of the basket. Upshaw grabbed her own rebound and banked it in with two seconds left to give the Crimson Wave a two point lead 75-73 and eventually the victory. Upshaw led the Crimson Wave with 23 points and six rebounds. She also added three assists, one block and one steal. She made all eight of the free throws she attempted.

In another tight game, this time versus Trinity Christian, Calumet came out on top once again, 53-46. Upshaw led with 16 points and six rebounds, to go along with four assists, a block and a steal. She was once again perfect at the free throw line going 4-for-4.

In the two games combined, Upshaw averaged 19.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists. She was 12-for-12 from the free throw line.

On the season, Upshaw is averaging 13.8 points per game which ranks fourth in the CCAC. She is shooting 80.7 percent from the free throw line which is the league's second-best mark.  
The Crimson Wave are 13-14 overall and 4-3 in the CCAC.

Ladies Finish 11th at McKendree

2/8/10 - The Crimson Wave Women's Bowling Team finished in 11th place this weekend after competing in the McKendree Baker Challenge hosted by McKendree University.

“The 40-game baker format provided us with the opportunity to prepare for the upcoming sectional qualifier which also has an all baker game format. Although we were not pleased with our overall performance, we will build on the lessons learned to hopefully qualify for our third consecutive National Finals appearance next month.”  Said Coach Washington on the competition

Men Finish 12th Overall

2/7/10 - The Crimson Wave men's bowling team finished 12th at the McKendree College Baker Challenge. The men struggled in day one before settling in to day two.

The men will take a week off to prepare for the Hoosier Classic held in Indianapolis, IN on February 20-21.

Hinton Qualifies for Nationals
 

2/6/10 – Crimson Wave men’s track and field runner Randy Hinton qualified for the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Randy HintonChampionships held at the Mini Dome in Johnson City, TN on March 4-6, 2010.

Hinton Qualified today at the Taylor University Invite in the 400m and 200m runs. In the 400m run Hinton ran a 50.24 meeting the national b standard for qualifying. A few races later Hinton won the 200m run in a time of 22.55 seconds to give him the national b standard and trip to Johnson City.
 
Hinton is the second runner in Crimson Wave history to qualify for the NAIA Track & Field National Championships.
Fred Olaosebikan won the 800m run in 2:00.68 for a personal best in the event. 

Jordan Harris broke his own school record in the shot put, throwing 9.96m.  Richard Gutierrez added his name to the record books in the 3000m run with a time of 9:09.62.  Daniel Medina ran a 8.68s in the 55m high hurdles for a school record and the 4X200m relay team ran a 1:38.44 for a record.  The relay team consisted of Nate Haverstock, Fred Olaosebikan, Tyler Stiscak and Ptah El-Aton.

The men will run their next meet at the Hoosier Hills Invite in Bloomington, IN on February 12, 2010.

Men Take Loss in Final Seconds to Trolls 
            

2/6/10 - The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team lost in the  final five seconds tonight to the Trinity Christian College Trolls 67-66 in a CCAC conference match up.

The Crimson Wave found themselves with a 9 point lead at the half 35-26 after shooting 7-7 from the free throw line in the first half of play. 

The Trolls cut the Crimson Wave lead to two at the 18:32 mark in the second on back to back jump shots.   The men pushed the lead back to nine on Wilfredo Escobar and Jon Contos three pointers.  The Crimson Wave would maintain a solid lead over the next eight minutes of play until a small Trolls run cut the men’s lead to one. 

Escobar would answer back with a baseline layup for a three point Crimson Wave lead.  After trading a series of free throws the Crimson Wave clung to a 2 point lead, 61-59 with 6:11 remaining play.  Contos hit his final shot of the night with 5:16 on the clock to make it a 63-59 Crimson Wave lead.  The Trolls Will Bruinsma answered back with a four point conversion to tie the game at 63.   Escobar brought the lead back to three on a make from behind the arc with 4:25 left.  The game would go scoreless until the 1:10 mark when the Trolls Matt Buren hit a short jumper to make it a one point game 66-65.  After a Crimson Wave foul the Trolls knocked down both free throws for a one point lead 67-66.  With 1.5 seconds left Escobar drove the left side of the floor and pulled up from half court, the ball seemingly banked in and popped out for a Crimson Wave defeat.

Escobar led the men with 15 points while Keith Dean and Contos had 13 and 11 points each.

The Crimson Wave (10-16, 3-5) will travel to Elgin, Il to take on the Eagles of Judson University Wednesday February 10 at 7:30 pm.

Ladies Edge Out Trolls in Pink Zone Game

2/6/10 – The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team edged out the Trinity Christian College Trolls today, 53-46, in the 2nd Annual WBCA Pink Zone game for the Crimson Wave.  Pink Zone Group
The Crimson Wave fell behind 15-12 with 7:50 left in a slow moving first half of play.  The lead changed four times afterward and ended in a tie at 22 a piece to end the half.

The ladies came out of the break on a 6-0 run with baskets from Lydia Aceviz, Lisa Upshaw and Moneva Fields.  After a series of back and forth scoring the Crimson Wave increased the lead to 9 points and a Jackie Feldpausch three point conversion.   The Crimson Wave lead became 11, 41-30, with 12:07 left when Joselyn Gray hit a six foot jumper in the lane.  The Trolls would soon answer back and with 4:10 on the clock cut the Crimson Wave advantage to four points, 48-44.  Chabria Survillan answered back for the Crimson Wave and made the game 50-44.  With time running out the Trolls fouled out of desperation and after sinking three of four free throws the Crimson Wave came out victorious. 

Upshaw led the Crimson Wave with 16 points and 6 rebounds.  Feldpausch and Survillan threw in 100 and 11 points respectively. 

Today’s game marked the second annual WBCA Pink Zone game hosted by the Crimson Wave.  The WBCA Pink Zone was established to raise breast cancer awareness.  Two IPod shuffles, Asics running shoes, Adidas draw string bags with gift certificates were raffled off along with many different types of baked goods.   All proceeds from today’s event will be donated to the Kay Yow Foundation. 

The Crimson Wave (13-14, 4-3) will travel to Elgin, IL on Wednesday February 10 to take on the Eagles of Judson University at 5:30 pm.

Ladies Win in Final Seconds

2/3/10 – The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team defeated the Trinity International University Trojans in the final seconds of play tonight 75-73.

The game started with an early five point Trojan lead with 14:63 remaining in the first half.   The ladies kept the game close throughout the first half, stretching to the lead to seven on a Lydia Aceviz three pointer.  The Trojans did not the lead last long and by the end of the half pulled back within one 36-35.

The ladies lost the lead only once during the second half when at the 11:49 mark a Crimson Wave turnover turned into a Trojan lead.  The ladies took the lead back on their next possession with another Aceviz three.  The Crimson Wave carried a small led throughout the rest of the half. 

With 15 seconds remaining play the Trojans Lavina Price hit a jumpshot from the right side of the lane to tie the game at 73 apiece.   The Crimson Wave immediately got the ball down the court to Lisa Upshaw who missed a layup from the left side of the basket.  Upshaw grabbed her own rebound and banked it in with 2 seconds left to give the Crimson Wave a two point lead 75-73.  The Trojans inbounded the ball when Upshaw fouled Trinity’s Price.  Price missed her first shot of the bonus attempt and time ran out for the Trojans.

Upshaw led the ladies with 23 points, while Aceviz and Jackie Feldpausch each threw in 18 points for the ladies. 

The Crimson Wave (12-14, 3-3) will host Trinity Christian College on Saturday February 6th at 1:00 pm.  This game will be part of the WBCA Pink Zone to help raise breast cancer awareness.    

Men Crush Trojans in CCAC Game

2/3/09 – The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team crushed the Trinity International University Trojans tonight in a CCAC conference game 88-70.

The men got off to a slow start falling behind 13-2 in the first four minutes of play.  After two baskets by Wilfredo Escobar and a pair of free throws by Keith Dean the men put themselves back within five.   A good basket by Antonio Hurt cut the Trojan lead to three points with 11:53 left to play in the half.   From there the Crimson Wave started to build their lead outscoring the Trojans 35-19 in the final ten minutes of the first half.  The Crimson Wave went to the locker ahead 46-34 at the break.

After the break it was all Crimson Wave as the men went on a 18-6 run to start to the half and increased their lead to 24 with 11:02 left in play.  From there the men never looked back running away with the game 88-70.

The Crimson Wave were led by 23 points and 7 rebounds from Dean along with 18 points and 7 rebounds from Escobar. 
The Crimson Wave (10-15, 3-4) will host Trinity Christian College on Saturday February 6th at 3:00 pm. 

Ladies Return to Ave Maria

1/30/10 - Ave Maria, Fl. – The Crimson Wave softball team returned to Ave Maria University for a four game set .  The ladies were hoping to continue their winning ways sending senior Christy Atton (Worth, Ill./Trinity Christian College) to the mound for the second time in as many games.  Unfortunately the ladies were not able to capitalize on strong performances by freshman Lisa Moriarty (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) who went 2-2, freshman Jessica Miles (Hammond, In./Bishop Noll Institute) who went 1-3, scored one run and an RBI, and Atton helping her cause by hitting 1-3, scoring two runs and stealing two bases.  The final score of 13-5 does not indicate how well the ladies played.  Atton’s record moves to 1-1 on the year.

Game two started off well with junior Angela Naranjo-Peacock (Chico, Ca./Butte College) in the circle for the Crimson Wave.  Hitters freshman Lisa Moriarty (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) and senior Christy Atton (Worth, Ill./Trinity Christian College) both had excellent days at the plate going 3-4 with one run and two stolen bases; and 4-5 with four runs and four stolen bases respectively.  Unfortunately, a strong CCSJ fifth inning was met with a stronger AMU side with the Gyrenes topping the Crimson Wave 14-11.  Naranjo-Peacock fell to 0-1 on the year in a performance that was stronger than the score shows.

Where most teams would have been spent, the Crimson Wave crashed the winning ways of the Gyrenes by a score of 12-1 in six innings.  Freshmen Betty Fuentes (El Paso, Tx./Socorro) evened her record to 1-1 while the crimson-hot bats of junior Angela Naranjo-Peacock (Chico, Ca./Butte College) and freshman Jessica Pabey (East Chicago, IN/East Chicago Central) went 3-4 with one run and two RBI and 3-5 with three runs, a steal and three RBI. 

Poised to even out the series at three games apiece, freshmen Betty Fuentes (El Paso, Tx./Socorro) continued her day in the circle; however, the Crimson Wave bats were silenced.  Juniors Janet Guill (Chico, Ca./Butte College) and Becky Liebermann (Channahon, Ill./South-Suburban College) went 1-3 with a run and 2-4 respectively in a 4-2 loss.  Fuentes moves to 1-2 on the year.

The Crimson Wave will be back in action on February 12-13 in Springfield, Mo. at the Evangel University Early Bird tournament.

Crimson Wave Split with Ave Maria

1/29/10  – Ave Maria, Fl. – The Crimson Wave softball team opened their season at Ave Maria University on Friday.  The ladies split losing the opening game 4-3 with freshman Jessica Pabey (East Chicago, IN/East Chicago Central) who went 2-4 with two stolen bases, freshman Shelby Boilek (Griffith, In./Griffith) who went 1-3 with two RBI and junior Angela Naranjo-Peacock (Chico, Ca./Butte College) who went 1-3 with an RBI.  Freshmen Betty Fuentes (El Paso, Tx./Socorro) was the losing pitcher (0-1).

The ladies turned things around winning the second game 8-1. Junior Ashley Berumen (Calumet City, Ill./T.F. North) went 2-2 with an RBI in her first action since the 2008 season. Freshman Jessica Miles (Hammond, In./Bishop Noll Institute) went 2-4, scored one run and an RBI, while junior Janet Guill (Chico, Ca./Butte College) went 2-3 with a run and an RBI.  Senior Christy Atton (Worth, Ill./Trinity Christian College) was the winning pitcher (1-0) striking out five Gyrenes.

Men’s Track Sets Five More Records

1/30/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s track and field team set five school records this weekend, competing at the Findlay Classic hosted by the University of Findlay.

Jordon Harris set records in the Pentathlon scoring 2005 points and in the Shot Put with 9.53m.   Richard Gutierrez set a new mark in the 5000m run finishing in 16:11.19 while Robbie Loop added his name to the record books in the 1000m run finishing in 2:48.37.  The 4X800m relay team of Fred Olaosebikan, Tyler Stiscak,  Joe Efantis, and Loop rounds out the records with a time of 8:24.33.

The men will compete at the Taylor University Invite this Saturday February 6th in Upland, IN. 

Crimson Wave Improve In Florida Season Opener

1/30/10 - The Crimson Wave baseball team lost a four game series against Ave Maria University in Ave Maria, FL this weekend.

On Friday the Crimson Wave got off to a slow start and suffered 11-1 losses in both games.  The bats were slow with a combined four hits for the day in their first two outdoor games of the season. 

On Saturday in game one, the Crimson Wave lost 6-0 and fell 6-5 in game two.  The bats improved with five hits in game one and 10 hits in game two.

Julian Griffith went 6-8 overall at the plate with a double, Ben Stepanian went 3-9 overall with a double and Kenny Segal went 4-8 overall with a two-run home run in game four.  Jeremy Jeffries added a double.  Ryan Senko stole three bases while John Chance stole third base.  All pitchers were limited to a 65-pitch count.

The Crimson Wave (0-4 overall) will travel to Lambuth University in Jackson, TN, February 20-21 for another four game series.

Ladies Crush the Archers

1/30/10 – The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team crushed the Moody Bible Institute Archers today 69-41.

The ladies jumped out to a 10 first half lead, 28-18.  The second half found the Crimson Wave in control pushing the lead to 18 with 8 minutes left in play.  The ladies dominated the rest of the half reaching their biggest lead of the night at 28. 
  
The Crimson Wave (11-14) were led by Lisa Upshaw’s 10 points and five rebounds.    Lydia Aceviz added 9 along with Moneva Fields and Tisa Carter adding 8 points apiece.  The ladies shot 88.9% from the free throw line going 8-9.
    
The Crimson Wave will host Trinity International University on February 3rd at 5:30 pm in CCAC conference match up. 

Men Beat Peregrines in Cross Town Rival  
         

1/27/10 - The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team came up big in the final minutes of play against cross town rival and CCAC opponent Purdue University Calumet, 78-75.

The Crimson Wave men got off to a slow start and found themselves trailing by two at the 10:00 minute mark.  This would be the last Peregrine lead of the night and the Crimson Wave took over.  Brannon Jones and Keith Dean would hit back to back lay ups for a four point lead.  At the 6:18 mark the Crimson Wave would start a 12-0 run starting with two Dean free throws, points by CJ Montgomery and Wilfredo Escobar and a three point bucket by Jon Contos.  The Crimson Wave would go to the locker room at half time with an 8 point lead 42-34. 

Sixteen seconds into the second half the men picked up where they left off with Contos burying a three from the wing off a pass from Robert Pogue.  The Crimson Wave would lead by double digits most of the second half until a small Peregrine run left the men ahead by only two, 76-74.

At the 2:50 mark the game seem to go cold in its entirety.  Both teams missed shot after shot and series of turnovers seemed to mark a change in play.  With forty five seconds remaining in play the Peregrines Eric Summers split a set of free throws to make it a one point Crimson Wave advantage.   Pogue grabbed the board for the Crimson Wave.  With fourteen seconds left Antonio Hurt would get an unlucky break on the rim and his layup popped out.  The Peregrines came up with the rebounded and headed down floor to take the lead.  The Peregrines Kedric Williams would turn the ball over and Purdue Calumet was forced to foul.  The desperation foul sent Escobar to the line for a pair.  Escobar sunk both for a three point Crimson Wave advantage 78-75.  The men stayed strong on the defensive end claiming the victory.

The Crimson Wave were led by Escobar who poured in 24 points shooting 50% from the arc, 4-8.  Dean and Hurt added 16 and 12 points in the victory.

The men will take the weekend off, hosting Trinity International University Wednesday February 3rd at 7:30 pm. 

Women Come Up Short at PUC

1/27/10 – The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team came up short tonight against cross town rival and CCAC opponent the Purdue University Calumet Peregrines, 89-75.

The ladies came out strong leading the first eight minutes of play despite losing Jackie Feldpausch to two early fouls 2:29 seconds into play.  The Crimson Wave could not hold off the Peregrines late in the half as the Purdue Calumet caught a streak of hot shooting.  The ladies trailed by 19 at the half 48-29.

The second half brought Feldpausch back into play; grabbing the Crimson Wave’s first two rebounds and four points of the half.   Feldpausch seemed to be unstoppable scoring seven more points over the next four minutes of play.   However the hot shooting of the Peregrines never ended, shooting 63.6% from the arc in the second half.

 Feldpausch poured in 19 second half points giving her 21 total on the night.   Lisa Upshaw and Lydia Aceviz scored 13 and 10 points respectively.

The Crimson Wave (10-14) will host Moody Bible Institute on Saturday January 30th at 1:00 pm.    

Men Take 2nd Overall

1/26/10 - The Crimson Wave men’s bowling team traveled to South Bend, IN this past weekend to participate in the Blue and Gold Classic hosted by the University of Notre Dame’s bowling club.  The men continued in their success from the previous weekend (Bearcat Open champions) by taking 2nd place overall.  
 The men totaled 9,426 pins.  Seniors Ryan Alberson and Ryan Gleghorn along with junior Sammy Krucek were name to the all-tournament team.   

The men will travel to Fairview Heights, IL to compete in the McKendree Baker Challenge on February 6-7. 

Wrestling Crushes Hannibal-LaGrange

1/26/10 – The Crimson Wave wrestling team crushed Hannibal-LaGrange College tonight 34-3.   Chad Allen and Derek Allen each won their match with a pin. Santiago Botello got his first win of his young collegiate career, 7-3.  Nick Fouts improved his record with a 12-3 win and Dustin Boyd took a 12-8 in his match. 

The Crimson Wave wrestling program will compete at the NAIA regional qualifier in February. 

Men Lose to Panthers in Conference Matchup

1/23/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team came up short today against the Purdue University North Central Panthers 79-76. 

The men got off to a slow start today trailing by as many as eight in the first half.  Wilfredo Escobar poured in 15 points in the first half going four for four at the free throw line.  The men trailed by only four at the half, 33-29.

The second half brought a deficit of 17 points for the men at the 8:11 mark.  The Crimson Wave would not let the Panther lead last.  Over the next four minutes of play the men would go on a 14-0 run.  During the run the men came up with three unanswered steals.  Jon Contos hit two three pointers, while Antonio Hurt threw in four of the points and Robert Pogue and Keith Dean each added a pair.  The Panthers would real off the next five points to increase their lead to nine, 75-66, with 36 seconds left in play.   Dean hit a three with 20 seconds left to make it a six point game.  After two made Panther free throws, Hurt floated a three in with 7 seconds on the clock to make it a 5 point Panther lead.   The Panthers Ryan Sisson missed two free throws to give the Crimson Wave the ball.  Dean would hit the next three pointer to make it a two point deficit. 

The men would foul the Panthers Derrick Hazelwood to try and gain possession.  Hazelwood hit both free throws for a 4 point Panther advantage.  With two tenths of a second left Sisson fouled the Crimson Wave’s Devon Key on his last second three point attempt, and sent Key to the line for three free throws.  Key hit one of three free throws and the Crimson Wave ran out of time. 

Escobar led the men with 19 points while Contos added 17 points for the Crimson Wave.  Pogue and Dean added 13 and 11 points respectively. 

The Crimson Wave (8-15, 1-3) will travel across town to Purdue University Calumet Wednesday January 27th for a 7:00 pm CCAC showdown. 

Ladies Suffer Loss to No. 19 Wolves

1/20/09 – The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team took their second conference loss of the season tonight, 65-51, to the NAIA No. 19 Cardinal Stritch University Wolves.

The Crimson Wave women came out strong jumping to an early five point lead, 7-2, at the 16:22 mark.  The ladies did not hold the lead long as the Wolves went on a 13-4 run to take a 15-11 lead at 13:12.  The ladies caught a shooting slump and ended the first half trailing 39-21.

Throughout the second half the ladies fought hard to get themselves back in the game but came up short giving the game to the Wolves 65-51. 

Lisa Upshaw led the ladies with 17 points and 6 rebounds.  Lydia Aceviz also threw in 11 points for the Crimson Wave. 

The Crimson Wave (10-13, 2-2) will play cross town rival and CCAC opponent Purdue University Calumet on January 27th at 5:00 pm.  The game will be played at Purdue Calumet. 

Men Lose to No. 12 Wolves at Home

1/20/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team was defeated tonight by NAIA No. 12 Cardinal Stritch University Wolves, 89-57.

The Crimson were led by Robert Pogue’s 22 points. 

The Crimson Wave (8-14, 1-3) will host conference opponent Purdue University North Central on Saturday January 23rd at 3:00 pm.

Sandoval and Miroski Named All-Scholar

1/19/09 – Crimson Wave men’s soccer player Boge Miroski and Jose Sandoval have named to that NSCAA Scholar All-Region Team.  This is the second year in a row each of these student athletes have received this award.

The NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) is the governing coaching association for soccer in the United States.

Crimson Wave Roll to a third place finish at the Hoinke

 1/16/09 - Cincinnati, OH - The Crimson Wave Women's Bowling Team competed in the 10th annual Hoinke Classic this past weekend and returned home with a third place finish in a field of 27 teams. The field bowled on two different PBA patterns over the two day event. (Shark-Saturday, Viper-Sunday)  The ladies qualified in 5th position for the nine game qualifying rounds with a pin total of 7934 plus 420 bonus pins. The field was cut to the top six teams after qualifying with bracket play determining the overall winner.  

In the first round, the Crimson Wave defeated the Wright State Raiders 3 games to 1 in the best of five baker format. The second round brought a much more formidable opponent in top seed and national powerhouse Pikeville College. The ladies saved their best for last, but it was not enough to overcome the experience of Pikeville, falling 3 games to 1 to the Lady Bears. 

“This was a complete team effort by the ladies. When one or two individuals found the lane pattern difficult, the other team members were there to keep the team steady. I was also impressed by first year team members Fallon Jarboe and Jessica Zaideman who did well this weekend in their first collegiate competition. Both young ladies played a significant role in our first round win over Wright State. I hope we can continue this momentum into next week's Tier 1 event in South Bend, IN.”  Said Coach Shon Washington

Men Win at Hoinke, Second Year in a Row

1/16/09 – The Crimson Wave men’s bowling team traveled to Cincinnati, OH to compete in the Hoinke Bearcat Open this weekend.  The Crimson Wave men finished 1st overall for the second straight year. 

The Crimson Wave opened up the tournament in the first round finishing in last place.  Over the next group of matches the Crimson Wave found themselves chipping away and eventually in first at the end of day one.  

Day two brought match play.  The Crimson Wave received a bye in the first round of match play.  In round two the men took on Saginaw Valley State’s C team and won by a convincing total.   The men would defeat Lindenwood University in round three to send them to the finals.

In the finals match the Crimson Wave saw themselves up against a tough young Pikeville University squad.  In first game of the finals the teams tied earning one point a piece, needing three to win the match.  Over the next four games each team won two games apiece.  This sent the match to an extra game. 

The Crimson Wave men chose the left lane for the final.  After starting with a set of spares the men struck the next eight giving them a 246 pin total and championship win. 

Ryan Gleghorn finished 9th overall individually averaging 209, while Derrek Bohn finished 11th with a 208 average.  Ryan Alberson was named to the All-Match Play Team after winning eight out of nine games. 

The Crimson Wave will compete in their next event on January 23-24th in South Bend, IN at the Blue and Gold Classic.  The Blue and Gold Classic is a tier one event, the men finished 2nd at the event last season. 

Grubba Qualifies at Elmhurst

1/16/09 - The Crimson Wave wrestling team traveled to Elmhurst College to participate in the Al Hanke Invite today.  

The day was highlighted by heavyweight Artie Grubba who placed 6th and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament in March.  The team finished 10th overall in the event.

The Crimson Wave wrestling team will hit the mat again next Saturday January 23rd at the Wabash duals at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN.

Men Compete at GVSU Invite
  

1/15/09 – The Crimson Wave men’s track and field team traveled to the Grand Valley State University Invitation this weekend.

Randy Hinton finished third overall in the 200m and 400m runs.  Hinton ran a 22.61 in the 200m and 50.50 in the 400m run.  Both of Hinton’s finishes have set new school records in the events.   Robbie Loop set a school record in the one mile run at 4:35.63 finishing 25th overall.   Jordon Harris’s throw of 8.86m in the shot put will put his name in the school record books along with a new record in the 4X400m relay.  The relay team of Joe Efantis, Nate Haverstock, Tom Moore, Randy Hinton finished in a time of 3:26.40, taking 3rd overall in the event.

The men will travel to the Findlay Classic on January 29th and 30th for their next event. 

Men Lose Despite Three in Double Digits  
         

1/16/10 – The Crimson Wave found themselves with three players in double digits scoring tonight despite a tough loss to the Judson University Eagles.

The men came out of the gates strong grabbing an ten point lead seven minutes into play after a Robert Pogue steal converted into two points for the Crimson Wave.  The Crimson Wave stayed hot the rest of the half shooting 63.3% from the field.  The men ended the half with a six point lead 54-48. 

The second half started with a Keith Dean pass to Wilfredo Escobar for a three pointer from the wing extending the Crimson Wave lead to nine.  The men fought hard to keep the lead by finally let the Eagles back into the game and found themselves trailing by six, 71-65 at the 11:31 mark. 

With 10:15 remaining Jon Contos hit a three point basket from the left wing to tie the game at 73.  The Crimson Wave would head to the defensive end of the floor where Dean stole a pass from the Eagles Jim Kuban and took it the length of the floor for a two point Crimson Wave lead.  This would be the last Crimson Wave lead of the night as a streak of missed shots would set in and the Eagles grabbed an 11 point lead.  The men fought hard to get themselves back in the game but could not get back their offensive rhythm and fell to the Eagles 98-82.

The men were led by Dean’s 23 points along with 20 points from Escobar and 16 from Pogue.

The Crimson Wave (8-13, 1-2) will host Cardinal Stritch University January 20th at 7:30 pm.  
 

Ladies Come Up Short Against the Eagles

1/16/10 – The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team fell short in the final minutes of play against CCAC opponent the Judson University Eagles tonight.

The ladies got off to a slow start trailing by ten in the first six minutes of play.  The ladies fought back over the next three minutes tying the game at 14’s on a Moneva Fields jumper.  After a series of back and forth scoring throughout the rest of the half, the Crimson Wave went to the locker room trailing by two, 27-25 at the half. 

The second half started with another slow start by the Crimson Wave trailing by seven early on.  After back to back jumpers by Lisa Upshaw the Crimson Wave cut the Eagles lead to two at the 16:47 mark.  The ladies found themselves down just a point with eleven minutes left in play when Upshaw converted a three point play that made the score 47-46.

This would be the closes the ladies would get the rest of half and the Crimson Wave fell to the eagles 59-56. 

Upshaw led the Crimson Wave with 26 points while teammate Jackie Feldpausch threw in 15 points and grabbed 8 boards.
The Crimson Wave (10-12, 2-1) will host Cardinal Stritch University January 20th at 5:30 pm. 

Men Escape with Win Over Trolls   
        

1/13/09 – The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team escaped with a win over the Trinity Christian College Trolls tonight 73-69 in the final minute of play.

The Crimson Wave men came out focused on defense to compliment their 81.6 ppg average.  The men came strong grabbing and early ten point lead in the first four minutes of play.  The Trolls would not trail for long tying the game at 16 a piece with 10:03 on the clock.  After a steal and three point bucket by Wilfredo Escobar the men found themselves with a three point lead.  This would be the last Crimson Wave lead of the half as the Trolls took a one point half time lead 35-34.

The Crimson Wave came out in the second half shooting and jumped to a 6 point lead with 15:09 left in play.  After a series of lead changes and made jumpers the game found itself with a one point Crimson Wave lead when CJ Montgomery tucked in a layup on the right side of the lane.  The Crimson Wave would go to the defensive end and send the Trolls Will Bruinsma to the line for two made free throws to send the game into a one point Troll lead.  

With 18 seconds remaining in the contest Escobar fouled Trinity’s Michael Thompson.  Thompson missed the first of his bonus opportunity and Keith Dean grabbed the rebound driving the length of the floor.  Dean would make it to the baseline when the Trolls defense collapsed on him and he shot the pass out to a wide open Escobar who sunk the three pointer from the top of the key.    The Trolls immediately called a time out.  Josh Flikkema would inbound the ball for the Trolls passing it right into the hands of Escobar who was immediately fouled.   Escobar sunk both giving the Crimson Wave a 73-69 victory over the Trolls.

The Crimson Wave were led by Dean’s 34 points along with 17 from Escobar.  Dean was also perfect from the charity stripe going 10-10. 

The Crimson Wave (8-12, 1-1) will host conference rivalry Judson University Saturday January 16 at 3:00 pm.      

Ladies 2-0, After Win Over Trolls     
        

1/13/10 – The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team start the conference season 2-0 for the first time in program history with a 54-50 win over the Trinity Christian Trolls tonight 54-50.

The first bucket of the night came two and half minutes into play when Jack Feldpausch scored on a layup after a steal by Lydia Aceviz.  Over the next ten minutes of play each team would only score another ten points and the Trolls would find themselves in with a 2 point lead 12-10.  Over the last minutes of play each team would miss a series of baskets to produce a low half time score of 21-16 in favor of Trinity.

The second half was unlike the first and both teams came out in an offensive mindset.  The Crimson Wave would take their first lead of the half with 6:40 left in play on an Ashley Kieltyka three point basket assisted by Feldpausch.  The Crimson Wave would hold the lead for much of the next four minutes of play until a pair of free throws by the Tolls Emily Stursma tied the contest at 48 apiece. 

With 2:08 remaining Lisa Upshaw grabbed a missed jump shot by the trolls and went the length of the floor for the layup and a two point lead.   With consecutive turnovers by the trolls the Upshaw would again find herself scoring and a Crimson Wave four point advantage.  The Trolls would cut the lead to two when Christine Iwema hit a baseline jump shot.  With two seconds on the clock Tisa Carter stole an Iwema pass and was fouled out of desperation.  Carter hit both shots from the line to seal a Crimson Wave win 54-50.
 
Upshaw led the Crimson Wave with 13 points while Feldpausch threw in 8 and grabbed 9 boards in the win.

The Crimson Wave (10-11, 2-0) will host conference rivalry Judson University Saturday January 16 at 1:00 pm. 

Men Fight Hard Against Greyhounds

1/13/09 – The Crimson Wave traveled south to the University of Indianapolis tonight for a dual with the Greyhounds.  The Crimson Wave came up short being defeated 33-12.

Senior Dan Bedoy pinned the Greyhounds J.T. Jenkins in 1:22.  Dustin Boyd and Chad Allen each won their dual respectively.

The Crimson Wave will travel to Elmhurst College this Saturday January 16 for a dual with the Blue Jays.

Ladies Grab First Conference Victory

1/9/10 – The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team has won their first regular season conference game since the 2006-2007 season when they defeated the Trinity International University Trojans tonight 73-59 in Deerfield, IL.
 
The Crimson Wave took a two point lead 44 seconds into the game on a Jackie Feldpausch jump shot .  This would start a 20-5 Crimson Wave run that would end on a Lisa Upshaw jump shot from the right wing.  The Crimson Wave pushed through the first half shooting 55.6% from the field and going to the locker room with an 18 first half lead.

The second half was no better for Trojans as the Crimson Wave came out and hit their first jumper of the half.  With 7 minutes left in play the Crimson Wave hit a small rough patch and the Trojans cut the lead to nine.  That would not last long as the ladies would string together a set of jumpers to push the lead pack into double digits.   The Crimson Wave never lost the lead throughout the entire game, shooting 52.8% from the field and 36.4% from the arc. 

Feldpausch led the Crimson Wave with 27 points and six rebounds.   Teammates Tisa Carter and Chabria Survillan scored 11 and 10 points respectively.  Moneva Fields grabbed 10 rebounds in the Crimson Wave victory.

The ladies (9-11 overall, 1-0 CCAC) will travel to Trinity Christian College on Wednesday January 13, for a 5:30 pm conference match up with the Trolls.  The game will be broadcast live on the Crimson Wave Radio Network. 

Men Lose to Trojans Despite Halftime Lead

1/9/10 – The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team took their first conference loss of the season tonight against the Trinity International University Trojans despite an eight point halftime lead.   

The Crimson Wave to off to a slow start grabbing their first lead of the night a the 8:12 mark in the first half on an Antonio Hurt jump shot.  With 3:47 left in the half Jon Contos hit a three pointer from the wing off a Kyle Mueller pass to start an 11-0 Crimson Wave run; that would end with a Wilfredo Escobar pull up jumper from the lane and give the Crimson Wave a 43-35 lead at the half.
 
The second half was not as bright for the men.  After hitting the first two baskets of the second half the Crimson Wave would go on a dry spell scoring only two points over the next six minutes of play.  During those six minutes the Trojans grabbed a 10 point advantage over the men.  The Crimson Wave never got back in the game and took their first conference loss 99-76.

Hurt led the men with 23 points while Escobar added 10. 

The Crimson Wave (7-12 overall, 0-1 CCAC) will travel to Trinity Christian College on Wednesday January 13, for a 7:30 pm conference match up. The game will be broadcast live on the Crimson Wave Radio Network.    

Ladies Struggle Against Eagles

1/05/09 – The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team struggled tonight in a 83-62 loss to the Robert Morris University Eagles. 

The Crimson Wave came out slow tonight going to the locker room at the half down 51-31.  The Crimson Wave came out in the second half and chipped away slowly going on a 7-2 run capped by a Whitney Bonham jump shot.  The Crimson Wave’s shooting was ultimately the deciding factor in giving the game to the Eagles.

The Crimson Wave were led by 12 points a piece by Ashley Kieltyka and Jackie Feldpausch.

The Crimson Wave will travel to Trinity International University on Saturday January 9th for their first conference game of the season.  The game will kick off in Deerfield, IL at 5:30 pm. 

Upshaw Named CCAC Player of the Week

1/5/09 - The Crimson Wave women's basketball team had a big week last week defeating two nationally recognized teams in the St. Xavier University Holiday Invite. A big reason for the Lisa UpshawCrimson Wave success was the performances of junior guard Lisa Upshaw (East Chicago, IN). She led the team in scoring and rebounding in both games and was named to the All-Tournament team. She earns CCAC Women's Basketball Division II Player of the Week for the week ending January 3.

With 38 seconds left against Siena Heights University, a team receiving votes in the NAIA national poll, Upshaw grabbed a rebound after a missed Saints shot and was immediately fouled. Upshaw sank both free throws to secure a 79-75 win. Upshaw led the Crimson Wave with 28 points and seven rebounds. She also had three assists. She shot 11-of-17 from the field, including two three-pointers. She made all four of her free throws.

The win against No. 17 ranked Siena Heights was another game that went down to the wire with Upshaw on the free throw line. With 5.7 seconds remaining in the game Upshaw was fouled and sent to the line with the Crimson Wave down 72-71. Upshaw buried both to give the Crimson Wave the one point advantage. A Saints turnover ended the game and Calumet earned the 73-72 win. Upshaw once again led the Crimson Wave, this time with 24 points and 13 rebounds. She also contributed four assists and one steal. She made 8-of-14 shots, including five three-pointers.

In the two games combined, Upshaw averaged 26 points, 10 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. She shot 61 percent from the field (19-31), 54.3 percent from behind the arc (7-13) and 88 percent from the free throw line (7-8).

Upshaw ranks fourth in the league with a 13.2 points per game average. Calumet is 8-10 on the year so far.

Bedoy Takes Win at Midwest Classic

1/3/09 – Crimson Wave senior wrestler Dan Bedoy won the 174 lb weight class at the Midwest Classic this weekend, defeating Justin Shannon from Findlay University. 

Bedoy started his journey with a bye in the first round.  The second round he matched up with University of Indianapolis wrestler Shelby Mappes.  After defeating mappes Bedoy ran the table against Limestone University, Grand Canyon University to meet Shannon in the finals. 

 The Crimson Wave wrestling team will compete at the Manchester Dual Meet on January 8th at Manchester College. 

Upshaw, Crimson Wave Knock Off Siena Heights

12/29/09 – The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team revenged their one point loss against the Siena Heights University Saints, 73-72, today to take 5th place in the St. Xavier Holiday Invite. 

With 5.7 seconds remaining in the game Lisa Upshaw is fouled and sent to the line with the Crimson Wave down one point 72-71.  Upshaw stayed focus and buried both to give the Crimson Wave the one point advantage.  After a Saints turnover, the game was sealed for the ladies.   

The Saints led most of the first half.  With 1:14 left in the half Moneva Fields hit a layup and was fouled.  Fields buried her free throw to give the ladies a one point lead.  The Crimson Wave would score three more times before the break and end the half with a three point lead 35-32.

The Crimson Wave came out in the second half and picked up right where they left off.  With 16:28 left in the second half Lisa Upshaw converted an offensive rebound to two points and gave the ladies a 9 point lead.  The Crimson Wave would hold their lead until the 1:28 mark when the Saints Shalaha Hubbard hit a three point basket from the wing to give the Saints their first lead of the half.  After two Saints free throws, Upshaw would bury her third three of the night to bring the Crimson Wave with one.  The Saints would then miss a three pointer from the wing and Upshaw grabbed the biggest rebound of the night. 

With 5.7 seconds remaining Upshaw is fouled and sent to the line with the Crimson Wave down one point 72-71.  Upshaw stayed focus and buried both to give the Crimson Wave the one point advantage.  After a Saints turnover, the game was sealed for the ladies. 
 
Upshaw led the Crimson Wave with 24 points and 13 rebounds, being named to the St. Xavier Holiday Invite All-Tournament team for her three day performance.  Jackie Feldpausch added 15 points and Fields and Joselyn Gray added 10 apiece.

The Crimson Wave are now 8-10 overall. 

Women Upset No. 17 Aquinas

12/28/09 – The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team upset No. 17 the Aquinas College Saints tonight 79-75 in the second round of the St. Xavier Holiday Invite.

After leading most of the first half the Crimson Wave went to the locker room down 4 points, 38-34, at half time. 

The Saints lead would not last for long and ladies went on a 29-15 run to take a commanding 15 point lead that would end on a Jackie Feldpausch layup.  The Crimson Wave could not hold the extended lead long and with 1:16 left, found themselves with a four point lead.  With 38 seconds left the Saints would miss a short jumper; Lisa Upshaw grabbed the rebound and was immediately fouled.  Upshaw sank both free throws to ensure the win. 

Upshaw led the Crimson Wave with 28 points and 7 rebounds.  Feldpausch and Whitney Bonham added 12 and 11 points respectively.

The Crimson Wave will play for the consolation championship tomorrow December 29th at 3:00 pm against Siena Heights University. 

Women Lose in First Round  
     

12/27/09 – The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team lost to the University of St. Francis (IN) today in the first round of the St. Xavier Holiday Invite 81-77.

The Crimson Wave were led by Lisa Upshaw’s double double of 24 points and 10 rebounds.  Moneva Fields added 10 points and 7 rebounds for the ladies. 

The Crimson Wave (6-10) will take on Aquinas College at 2:00 pm tomorrow Monday, December 28th in the second round of the St. Xavier Holiday Invite. 

Men Win at IUN

12/22/09 – The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team won a thriller tonight at Indiana University Northwest 78-77. 

The Crimson Wave led by one at the half 34-33.  The second half the Crimson Wave came out and jumped on a early 6 point lead.  The lead would not last for long and the game bounced between each team having a one point lead for much of the half.  With 11.8 seconds remaing Wilfredo Escobar sank a pair of free throws to give the Crimson Wave a three point lead 78-75.  After a foul and two IUN foul shots the Crimson Wave in bounded the ball and held on for the win.

The Crimson Wave (7-11) will take a couple weeks off before traveling to Trinity International University on Saturday January 9th for a 7:30 pm game to open the conference season. 

Escobar Joins 1,000 Point Club

12/20/09 – Whiting, IN – Crimson Wave men’s basketball junior guard Wilfredo Escobar secured his place in Crimson Wave basketball history when he reached the 1,000 point plateau.  Escobar is just the fourth Crimson Wave men’s Wilfredo Escobarbasketball player to reach this mark. 

With just 11 seconds left in the game against Waldorf College in the Crimson Wave Holiday Invite, Escobar put away a pair of free throws to give him his 1,000th and 1, 1001 point of his career.   He finished the night with 23 points and three assists. As the Crimson Wave defeated Waldorf 72-65.

Escobar has been named to the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference all-conference team each of his three years playing for the Crimson Wave.   Escobar was also named CCAC Freshman of the year in 2007-2008. 

Escobar has also become the Crimson Wave men’s basketball all-time assist leader with 236 assists. 

Men Go Down to the Wire with Carthage


12/19/09 – The Crimson Wave (6-11) men’s basketball went down to the wire tonight against the Carthage College Red Men, currently ranked 23rd by d3hoops.com poll, just falling short 90-88.

The Crimson Wave spent the entire first half with lead except on three occasions when the Red Men tied the game.  The men went into the break with a three point lead 43-40.  The Crimson Wave’s first half control was lead by Keith Dean and Antonio Hurt who scored 15 and 14 points in the half.  The men got the job done early at the charity stripe hitting 10-11.

The second half the Crimson Wave retied the game on their second possession of the half on a Dean layup after a pair of jumpers gave the Red Men their first lead of the night.  With 5:20 remaining in the half the Crimson Wave found themselves with a two point lead, 75-73, and the ball.  After a set of missed jumpers the Red Men regained the lead.  At the 3:43 mark the men took a 78-77 lead.  Dean would score the men’s next seven points each being answered by the Red Men.  With 7.6 left on the clock the men were down 88-85 when Hurt hit a three point shot from the top of the key to tie the game.    With less than three seconds on the clock the Red Men found Max Carey behind the Crimson Wave defense for the game winning layup. 

The Crimson Wave shot 44.9 percent from the field and 89.5 percent from the free throw line.  Dean ended the night with 34 points going 12-19 from the field and 4-6 from behind the arc.  Hurt threw in 24 and grabbed 9 rebounds for the men. 

The Crimson Wave will travel across the region on Tuesday night to take on Indiana University Northwest in a 7:00 pm game.     

Crimson Wave Holiday Classic Day Two

12/19/09 – The Crimson Wave ended day two of the Crimson Wave Holiday Classic with their second straight loss.  The ladies were defeated by the Marian University Knights 60-45.

The Crimson Wave came out slow and fell behind by 16 after shooting a season low 20 percent in the first half.  The ladies came out in the second looking to get back on track.  After chipping away for most of the half the Crimson Wave found themselves down four with 4:38 remaining after Tisa Carter three point bucket.  The Crimson Wave could not hold on gave the game to the Knights. 

Lydia Aceviz led the ladies with 11 points.  Aceviz and Moneva Fields were named to the all-classic team.  The Crimson Wave are now 6-9 overall. 

In the first game of the day Iowa Wesleyan College defeated Walsh University 76-55. 

Crimson Wave Holiday Classic Day One

12/18/09 – The Crimson Wave were defeated by Walsh University today in the second game of the Crimson Wave Holiday Classic 69-46.

In game one Iowa Wesleyan College cruised past Marian University 77-57.

Game two found the Crimson Wave down early on and by 13 at the half 38-25.   After a slow start to the second half the Crimson Wave found themselves down and gave the game to Walsh 69-46.

Lydia Aceviz, Moneva Fields, Jackie Feldpausch and Chabria Survillan each scored 7 points for the Crimson Wave.

The Crimson Wave (6-7) will take on Marian University at 2:00 pm tomorrow in day two of the Crimson Wave Classic.  

Crimson Wave Sign Crown Point State Champ

12/15/09 – Head wrestling Coach Leroy Vega added another state champion to his roster this afternoon signing Crown Point High School senior Anthony Hawkins for the 2009-2010 season.  Hawkins won the 2009 Indiana State Championship at 112 pounds.

Hawkins in currently ranked fourth in the country by Wrestling USA Anthony Hawkinsmagazine at 112 lbs.  Hawkins and Coach Vega go back a long way.   Hawkins dad was Vegas high school assistant coach when we wrestled at Portage High School in the 90’s.  Anthony eventually found himself a part of Vega Wrestling, the wrestling club that Coach Vega owned. 

Hawkins will come to Calumet College of St. Joseph undecided on his major but sure about one thing “I made the right choice staying in the region wrestling for Coach Vega.  I made the right choice for my wrestling career.” Said Hawkins

“There is a lot of weight off his shoulders now; he can concentrate on winning his second state title.  Anthony is a great kid and will be a great wrestler for us.  Having a kid like that in the room with us will make us better, him better, the team better, and everyone better individually.  He will bring so much to our program.  We are one step closer to getting to a national title.”  Said Coach Vega on Anthony Hawkins. 

Feldpausch Named POW for Second Time

12/15/09 - Crimson Wave junior Jackie Feldpausch (Grandledge, MI) has earned her second CCAC Women's Jackie FeldpauschBasketball Division II Player of the Week award after leading her team to two wins last week. For the week ending Dec. 13, Feldpausch averaged 12.7 points and six rebounds per game and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Crimson Wave Holiday Invite.

The Crimson Wave started the week with a near-win against Siena Heights University. The squad lost by one, 64-63. Feldpausch had six points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.

In a 71-44 blowout win against Marygrove College, Feldpausch was only needed for 12 minutes of play but she made the most of it. The 5-10 center had eight points, eight rebounds, three steals and one assist.

In an 80-73 win against Ashford University in the championship game of the invite, Feldpausch led her team with 24 points, to go along with six rebounds, three assists and two steals.

In addition to her 12.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game average, Feldpausch shot 48.5 percent from the field (16-33) and averaged 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game in the three games combined. She ranks 10th in the league with an 11.3 points per game average.

The Crimson Wave evened its record at 6-6 overall with last week's two wins.

Ladies Take Tough Loss to the Maple Leafs  
       

12/15/09 - Three days after winning the Crimson Wave Holiday Invite the Crimson Wave women’s basketball team took a tough loss to the Goshen College Maples Leafs at home 77-61.

The Crimson Wave started slow but got themselves back in the game late early in the second half on a Jackie Feldpausch jumper to cut the Goshen lead to six.  The Crimson Wave could not hold on and soon found themselves down with time running out.  After a tough battle the Crimson Wave gave the game to the Maple Leafs. 

The Crimson Wave were led by Lisa Upshaw’s 11 points and six rebounds.  Lydia Aceviz, Chabria Survillan, and Jasmine Richards each had 7 points for the ladies.

The Crimson Wave (6-7) will host the Crimson Wave Classic this weekend, where they will face Walsh University on Friday night at 7:30 in the opening round. 

Crimson Wave Wins Championship Game

12/12/09 - The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team beat Ashford University today in the championship game of the Crimson Wave Holiday Invite to claim the championship.

The Crimson Wave fell behind early and found themselves down 14 points in the first ten minutes of play.  The Crimson Jackie Feldpausch and Moneva FieldsWave chipped away and went on a 10 point unanswered run to end the first half, going to the locker room down four, 33-29.

The second half started with a Lydia Aceviz three pointer followed by a Moneva Fields jumper a minute later to take a one point lead.  After a back and fourth game over the next five minutes of play the Crimson Wave started to pull away on a 13-4 run capped with another Aceviz three.    The Crimson Wave never looked back and beat Ashford 80-73 to take the championship. 

Jackie Feldpausch led the Crimson Wave with 24 points and 6 rebounds.  Fields and Joselyn Gray each had 17 points for the ladies along with 6 and 7 rebounds respectively.
 
Jackie Feldpausch was named Most Outstanding Player of the invite and teammate Moneva Fields was named to the all-invite team.   The Crimson Wave ladies are now 6-6 overall. 

Men Sink Kuyper

12/12/09 – The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team sunk Kuyper College today, 90-68 in day two of the Bethel College Invite.

The game was all Crimson Wave from the tip off and the men had a 28 point lead 53-25 at the half.  Wilfredo Escobar had 20 points while Jon Contos threw in 19 and 9 rebounds including five three pointers.  The Crimson Wave shot 84 percent from the free throw line in the win.

Escobar and Contos were both named to the all-invite team.   The men are now 6-10 overall.

Crimson Wave Holiday Invite Day One

12/11/09 – The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team will head to the championship game of the Crimson Wave Holiday Invite tomorrow against Ashford University.

Game one saw a ten point win, 64-54, by Ashford University over Mid-Continent University today in the opening round.

In game two the Crimson Wave got back on track in their twenty seven point, 71-44, win over Marygrove College.  The Crimson Wave came out strong and took a ten point first half lead on a Moneva Fields jump shot.    The Crimson Wave kept pushing forward and went the locker room with a fifteen point lead 32-17 at the half. 

The Crimson Wave came out in the second half just as the first ended.  The Crimson Wave pushed the game to a twenty seven point lead for the win.

Lydia Aceviz led the Crimson Wave with 10 points and five rebounds. 

The Crimson Wave will play Ashford University in the championship game starting at 2:00 pm.  The consolation game will start at 12:00 pm and will match up Mid-Continent University and Marygrove College.  The invite is being held on the campus of CCSJ. 

Four Named Scholar Athletes

12/10/09 – Four Crimson Wave athletes have been named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes.   Junior men’s soccer player Jose Sandoval and three volleyball players, Senior Kate Delaney, Senior Juliet Bustos, and Junior Terra Totos.

Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify.

Good Shooting Not Enough
       

12/8/09 – The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team shot 43.2 percent from the field, but it was not enough to hold off CCAC Division One opponent Robert Morris University.

The Crimson Wave came out strong against the Eagles and took their first and only lead of the night with nine minutes remaining in the first half on a CJ Montgomery layup.  The Crimson Wave could not hold off the Eagles charge and went to the locker room down 13 at the half 52-39. 

The second half brought a strong surge by the Crimson Wave who cut the deficit to four with 8 minutes left in play.  Despite shooting 88.9 percent from the free throw line in the second half the Crimson Wave could not hold on and the Eagles took the game 101-92.
Keith Dean led the Crimson Wave with 30 points while Robert Pogue and Wilfredo Escobar added 24 and 18 points respectively. 

The Crimson Wave (5-9) will compete at the Bethel College Invite this weekend. 

Ladies Clipped by One at Home

12/08/09 – The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team lost in the final seconds tonight against the Siena Heights University Saints 64-63.

The Crimson Wave came out strong tonight and took an early 8 point lead, 13-5 in the first six minutes of play.  The lead would not last long and with a string of Saints jump shots the game was tied at 14 a piece with 12 minutes left in the first half.  The Crimson Wave retook the lead and headed to the locker room on a three pointer by Lisa Upshaw to make the score 34-29 Crimson Wave.

The second half was all Crimson Wave leading by as many as seven.  The Saints took their first lead of the half when they drove the length of the floor with three seconds left and put in a layup down the right side of the lane. 

Upshaw led the Crimson Wave with 21 points while Joselyn Gray had 13. 

The Crimson Wave are now 4-6 overall.  The ladies will host their Crimson Wave Holiday Invite this Friday and Saturday December 11-12 at home.  The Crimson Wave will play the second game at 7:30 pm against Marygrove College. 

Ladies Host Siena Heights

12/8/09 – The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team will host Siena Heights University at home tonight at 7:00 pm.  The ladies are coming off a loss at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.

Lydia Aceviz and Lisa Upshaw is currently leading the Crimson Wave in scoring at 12.5 ppg.  The Crimson Wave are currently 4-5 overall.   

Men at Robert Morris Tonight


12/8/09 – The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team will travel to Chicago, IL to take on CCAC Division 1 opponent Robert Morris University.  The game will tip off at 7:30 pm and will be played at Alumni Gym on the campus of Loyola University. The game will be broadcast live on the Crimson Wave Radio Network.

The Crimson Wave are coming a off a loss to Bellevue University in the championship game of the Crimson Wave Holiday Invite this past weekend.    Keith Dean is currently leading the Crimson Wave and the CCAC in scoring at 22.4 ppg while Wilfredo Escobar is leading the Crimson Wave in assist per game with 2.8.  The Crimson Wave are currently 5-8 overall this season. 

Wrestling Competes at Little State Tourney

12/6/09 - The Crimson Wave wrestling team competed at the Little State Tournament at Trine University this weekend.  Dustin Boyd went 4-2 on the weekend finishing in 4th place while Derek Allen was 5-2 finishing in 5th place.  Artie Grubba finished in 8th place going 3-3 overall.  Nick Fouts was 1-2 and Lance Surma 2-1. 

Dean and Escobar Named to All-Invite Team

12/5/09 – Crimson Wave men’s basketball players Keith Dean and WIlfredo Escobar were named to the Crimson Wave Holiday Invite All-Invite Team this weekend.

Bellevue’s Avery Tyler was named most outstanding player.  Teammate Antoine Dade was also named to the all-invite team.  Waldorf’s Karl Dehesa and Bethel’s Andre Crudup were also named to the team.

Crimson Wave Holiday Invite Day Two 

12/05/09 – The Crimson Wave Holiday Invite ended with the Crimson Wave being defeated in the championship game against Bellevue University 78-68.

The consolation game ended with Waldorf College on top against Bethel University 72-59 in a well played game by both teams.
The championship game started with an early three point lead by the Crimson Wave on a Wilfredo Escobar three point shot.  The lead did not last long and Bellevue jumped ahead by five at the ten minute mark.  With 4:05 left in play the Crimson Wave regained the lead on a Keith Dean steal and layup.  After a set of back and forth jumpers the game went to half time in a tie 39 a piece. 

The second half started with Bellevue taking a 17 point advantage.   The Crimson Wave fought back going on a 12-2 run ending on a pair of Dean free throws.  The Crimson Wave could not hold on and  gave the game to Bellevue 78-68. 

Dean led all scoring with 21 points.  Escobar ended with 18 points and 6 rebounds.  Robert Pogue threw in 12 points and 7 rebounds. 
The Crimson Wave are now 5-8. 

Holiday Invite Day One

12/04/09 – The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team will face Bellevue University in the championship game of the Holiday Invite after defeating Waldorf College 72-65 in game one.
 
The Crimson Wave found themselves down by ten points in the first 8 minutes of play tonight against Waldorf College.  After a string of jumpers and a 13-2 run that was capped by Keith Dean free throw the men found themselves up one point 22-21.  Waldorf would make a small run of their own and the Crimson Wave found themselves tied , 33-33, at the half.

The second half was all Crimson Wave leading by as many as 10.  Wilfredo Escobar and Dean each had 12 and 11 points throughout the second half of play.  Dean finished the night with 24 and Escobar with 23.  The Crimson Wave went 17-20 on the night from the free throw line.

Game two saw Bellevue University matched up against Bethel University (TN).   After a back and forth battle throughout the first half Bellevue went to the locker at the half with a ten point lead 40-30.  The  second half of play was all Bellevue.  The final ended with Bellevue 85 and Bethel  57.

The Crimson Wave will face Bellevue University in the Championship game at 2:00 pm tomorrow December 5th.  Waldorf College will take on Bethel University at 12:00 pm in the consolation game.  All games are played at home on the campus of CCSJ. 

Dean Second Straight Player of the Week

12/2/09 - Crimson Wave junior Keith Dean (Gary, IN) continues to lead the men’s basketball team and the league offensively and has been named CCAC Men's Basketball Division II Player of the Week for the second consecutive Keith Deanweek. For the week ending November 29, Dean averaged 22.7 points, while leading the Crimson Wave to two wins.

The Crimson Wave defeated Holy Cross College 100-81 early in the week. Dean logged 32 minutes and had a great stat line with 20 points, nine rebounds, four assists, a block and a steal. He shot 6-of-11 from the field, 3-of-6 from three-point range and made 5-of-6 free throws.

Despite a loss to Ohio Dominican University, 74-52, Dean had another solid night with 18 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two assists.

The Crimson Wave bounced back the next day to defeat Shawnee State University in overtime, 78-76. Dean played an impressive 43 minutes, collecting 30 points, including five three-point field goals. He also tallied six rebounds, five assists, a block and three steals.
Dean was named to the Ohio Dominican Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team for his performances against Ohio Dominican and Shawnee State.

In the three games combined, Dean averaged 22.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game. He shot 42 percent from the field, 37 percent from behind the arc and 76 percent from the free throw line. He had a combined 10 made three-point field goals in the three games.

He now leads the CCAC with a 22.4 points per game average and is tied for fourth with a 6.0 rebounds per game average. Calumet is 4-7 on the year.

Dean Named to All-Classic Team

11/28/09 – Crimson Wave Junior men’s basketball player Keith Dean was named to the Ohio Dominican University Thanksgiving Classic All-Classic Team.   Dean scored 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in the Crimson Wave’s loss to host Ohio Dominican University.  Dean threw in 30 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in the men’s overtime victory over Shawnee State University in game two of the classic. 

Crimson Wave Split at Thanksgiving Classic

11/28/09 - The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team competed at the Ohio Dominican Thanksgiving Classic this weekend in Columbus, Ohio.

The Crimson Wave had a rough start opening the classic, taking on host Ohio Dominican University Panthers.  The Crimson Wave struggled most of the night shooting just 26.9% from the field.  The Panthers defeated the Crimson Wave 74-52.  Junior Keith Dean led the Crimson Wave with 18 points and 8 rebounds.  Karl Anderson threw in 10 points for the men.

Game two of the classic brought success for the men, coming out on top in an overtime win against the Shawnee State University Bears.    The Crimson Wave led the entire first half going to the locker room with a four point lead 33-29.  The men got 12 points from Senior Fares Saqf-Alhait in the first half shooting 32% from the field.  Saqf-Alhait buried four three’s in the half. 

The second half started with the Crimson Wave in control.  After three minutes of play the Bears connected on a series of layups to take a 5 point lead.  After a series of lead changes the game tied at 71 points a piece on a Dean three pointer from Saqf-Alhait with 28 seconds remaining.  The Crimson Wave held their defensive positions and the Bears missed a jumper with time running out to send the game to overtime.  Overtime was all Crimson Wave escaping 78-76 over the bears.

Dean ended the night leading the Crimson Wave with 30 points while Junior Wilfredo Escobar dropped in 20 for the men.  Saqf –Alhait contributed six in the second half totaling 18 on the night.

Men Finish 8th Overall

11/28/09 - The Crimson Wave men’s bowling team finished 8th overall at the National Team Matches  held at the Claire Bowl in Fairview Heights, IL.  Danny Locke led the Crimson Wave finishing 24th overall.  Ryan Gleghorn and Sammy Krucek finished 28th and 42nd respectively.  The men will take a short break before competing in Las Vegas, NV December 19-22. 

Ladies Take Tough Loss

11/27/09 - The Crimson Wave women's basketball took a tough loss today to Black Hills State University 79-53. Lydia Aceviz led the Crimson Wave with 19 points.

The Crimson Wave (4-4) will take on South Dakota School of Mines and Technology tommorow at 6:00 pm.

Men Wash Away Holy Cross

11/26/09 - Senior Fares Saqf-Alhait  and Junior Keith Dean scored 20 points each in the Crimson Wave’s wash of the Holy Cross College Saints. 

The Crimson Wave came out strong jumping out to a 16 point lead in the first nine minutes of play on a Saqf-Alhait three pointer from Wilfredo Escobar.  The Crimson Wave continued to dominate the first half going to the locker room with an 11 point lead 57-46. 

During the first ten minutes of play in the second half the Crimson Wave continued to dominate leading 74-64 at the ten minute mark.  Holy Cross would soon get the hot hand and cut the lead to five with 6:51 left in play.  That would be the closest the Saints would get and the Crimson Wave went on a 11-1 run to go up 15 with three and half left.    The Crimson Wave would take the game 100-81. 

Escobar added 16 points and 11 assists to help in the Crimson Wave victory.

The Crimson Wave (3-6) will travel to Ohio-Dominican University for a two day tournament this Friday and Saturday November 28 and 29.  The Crimson Wave will take host Ohio Dominican University on Friday evening at 8:00 pm.  

Men to Battle Saints

11/25/09 - The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team will host the Holy Cross College Saints (1-9) tonight at 7:00 pm at the Recreation Athletic Facility on the campus of CCSJ.  The Crimson Wave (2-6) are coming off a 94-71 loss to New Mexico Highlands University.  The Crimson Wave are looking to settle into their offense tonight behind CCAC Player of the Week Keith Dean who currently leads the CCAC in scoring at 23.6 ppg. 

Dean Named CCAC Player of the Week

11/25/09 - Calumet College junior guard Keith Dean (Gary, IN) had three impressive games last week including a 37-point performance in a win over the University of Michigan-Keith DeanDearborn. He averaged 25 points in three games to earn CCAC Men's Basketball Division II Player of the Week for the week ending November 22.

Against Michigan-Dearborn, Dean scored his season-high 37 points on 15-of-24 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. He also had six rebounds, two assists, two steals and two three-point field goals.

In an 87-56 loss to Fort Lewis, Dean was once again the team's leading scorer, this time with 17 points to go along with six rebounds, three assists and a steal. He shot 7-of-9 from the free throw line.

Dean scored a team-high 21 points in a 94-71 loss to New Mexico Highlands. He made four three-point field goals and converted on 5-of-6 free throws.

In the three games combined, Dean averaged 25 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.0 steals per game. He shot 48 percent from the field and 81 percent from the free throw line.  Dean leads the league in scoring with 23.6 points per game average. The Crimson Wave are 2-6 on the year so far.

Feldpausch Named Player of the Week

11/25/09 - Despite two losses, Calumet College junior center Jackie Feldpausch (Grandledge, MI) had two great individual efforts to earn her CCAC Women's BasketballJackie Feldpausch Division II Player of the Week for the week ending November 22. Feldpausch had two 20-plus scoring nights for the Crimson Wave.

Calumet lost to CCAC Division I foe Indiana University-South Bend, 76-64, to start the week. Feldpausch scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the loss. She also had a block and an assist and shot 8-of-11 from the field.

Indiana University Northwest was the next opponent and despite the 67-52 loss, Feldpausch scored 21 points, while also tallying six rebounds and two steals.

In the two games combined, Feldpausch averaged 22 points and seven rebounds. Calumet is 4-3 on the year.

Men Lose Despite Good Shooting
          

11/21/09 – The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team shot 43% from the field in the second round game of the George B. Boedecker Foundation Classic against New Mexico Highlands University Cowboys today despite losing 94-71. 

The Crimson Wave came out strong in the first half trailing by only six in the first eight minutes.  After a back and forth battle over the next five minutes the Cowboys opened up the game to a 17 point lead.  1-The first half would remain that way and the Crimson Wave went to the locker room down 51-34.

The second half the Crimson Wave fought tough but could not overcome the deficit.   Junior Keith Dean led the Crimson Wave with 21 points.  Wilfredo Escobar and Fares Saqf-Alhait had 11 and 10 points each. 

The Crimson Wave (2-6) will take the next two days to prepare for newly added CCAC Division 1 opponent Holy Cross College.  The game will be played on Wednesday November 25 at 7:00 pm at the Recreation Athletic Facility on the campus of CCSJ. 

Men Take on New Mexico Highlands

11/21/09 – The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team will play in the second round of the George B. Boedecker Foundation Classic today at 4:00 pm.  The Crimson Wave (2-5) will take on NCAA Division 2 opponent New Mexico Highlands University (1-1).  The Crimson Wave are coming off a first round loss to host Fort Lewis College while New Mexico Highlands knocked off Grand Canyon State University yesterday in the first round of the classic.  Today’s game will be broadcast live on the B2 Network.

Shooting Proves Tough at Fort Lewis

11/20/09 – The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team had a rough shooting night in the opening round of the George B. Boedecker Foundation Classic tonight against host Fort LewisJunior Keith Dean College Skyhawks.

The Crimson Wave fell short shooting just 25.9% from the field in the 87-56 loss.  After a slow start falling behind 22-10 in the first 8 minutes of play the Crimson Wave started a small run on a Robert Pogue layup.  Keith Dean rounded out the run with a three point play getting fouled on a drive from the right wing.  After a series of Skyhawk baskets the Crimson Wave found themselves down 39-22 at the half.  

The second half started much the same way as the first and the men found themselves down 47-22 early on.  The Crimson Wave struggled to get back in the game.  The Skyhawks opened up the game taking it 87-56. 

Dean led the Crimson Wave with 17 points and 6 rebounds.  Wilfredo Escobar added 9 points and 6 rebounds for the men. 

The Crimson Wave (2-5) will play their second round game of the classic against New Mexico Highlands University (1-1) tomorrow at 4:00 pm CST.  The classic is being held at Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO.   

Men Take on Host Fort Lewis College

11/20/09 - The Crimson Wave men’s basketball team will open the George B. Boedecker Foundation Classic against host Fort Lewis College Skyhawks (0-0) tonight at 8:30 pm CST.   The Crimson Wave (2-4) are coming off a home win against the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday night.  Tonight’s match up with the Skyhawks will be tough in the 6,500 feet elevation in Durango, CO.  The game will be broadcast live on the B2 network and stat cast live from court side .  To listen live Click Here. 

Aceviz Earns Player of the Week Honors

11/19/09 – Crimson Wave women’s basketball player junior guard Lydia Aceviz has earned CCAC Player of the Week honors for the week ending on Sunday November 15.

Aceviz performances include 19 points and 5 rebounds against Grace College on November 11th.  Aceviz was 5-7 from behind the arc and shot 60% from the field.  Three days later Aceviz threw in 15 points, grabbed four rebounds, and connected on 7 assists against Ashford University.    This is the first player of the week honor that Aceviz has received. 

Ladies Drop Game to Titans

11/19/09 - The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team took a tough loss to CCAC division one opponent Indiana University South Bend Titans 76-64 tonight.

After a tough fought first half the Crimson Wave went to the locker room trailing by only one 33-32.   The Titans came out strong in the second half and the Crimson Wave found themselves down 11 points in the first five minutes of action.  With 13 minutes left in play the Crimson Wave went on an 8-0 run that started with a Lisa Upshaw free throw and ended with a Lydia Aceviz free throw.  From there the ladies could not hold on and found themselves down ten the rest of the second half.  

Jackie Feldpausch led the Crimson Wave with 23 points while Upshaw and Aceviz added 16 and 15 respectively. 

The Crimson Wave (4-3) will travel to South Dakota next week for a match up with Black Hills State University on November 27th at 2:00 pm.

Dean’s 37 Lift the Crimson Wave Over Michigan-Dearborn

11/18/09 - Keith Dean scored a season high 37 points in the Crimson Wave’s 84-79 defeat of the University of Michigan-Dearborn tonight to improve the Crimson Wave’s record to 2-4. 

The Crimson Wave came out strong tonight jumping to an early 16-7 in the first six minutes of play on a Dean drive that turned to a three point play.  The Crimson Wave took control during the next ten minutes of play increasing their lead to as many as 12 with three minutes left in the half.   After a series of jump shots the by Michigan-Dearborn the Crimson Wave went to the locker room with a 6 point lead 41-35.

The second half started much like the first and a strong Crimson Wave offense increased their lead to nine in the first eight minutes of play.  The Crimson Wave’s lead would not last and the game was tied at 69 a piece with 6:30 left in play.  The Crimson Wave hung onto a one point lead from a CJ Montgomery Free throw in the final minute of play, making Michigan-Dearborn foul.  The Crimson Wave buried their free throws to hold on and collect the win.

Wilfredo Escobar and CJ Montgomery added 16 and 13 points respectively.    Robert Pogue pulled down 10 rebounds for the men.

The Crimson Wave (2-4) will travel to Fort Lewis College this weekend to compete in the Fort Lewis Classic. 

Ladies Take Loss at IUN

11/17/09 - The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team was defeated by Indiana University Northwest tonight 67-52.    The Crimson Wave were led by Jackie Feldpausch’s 19 points and 12 rebounds.  

The Crimson Wave (4-2) will host Indiana University – South Bend on Thursday November 19 at 7:00 pm.  The game will be played at the Recreation Athletic Facility on the campus of CCSJ. 

Celebrating “girl power”

11/16/09 - Members of the Crimson Wave Women’s Soccer team volunteered at the 10th Annual Girls on the Run 5k atWomen's Soccer Team Toyota Park in Chicago on Saturday, November 14.  Activities included cheering on participants, face painting, hair decorating and making tiaras.  The highlight of the event was cheering on the 1st Annual Lil’ Sparks Sprints for girls ages 2-7. 

Girls on the Run is a program targeting 8-14 year olds to help educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.  The character-building program focuses on building self-esteem, confidence and improving physical and emotional health.

Men Qualify at Muskegon

11/14/09 – The Crimson Wave wrestling qualified two more wrestlers for the NAIA National Championships at the Muskegon Open this weekend at Muskegon Community College.

Chad Allen led the way for the Crimson Wave finishing 2nd overall, while Chris Head and Derek Allen each finished 3rd in their weight classes respectively.   C. Allen and Head both qualified for the NAIA National Championships. 

Bonham’s Last Second Layup Propels the Crimson Wave

11/15/09- Whitney Bonham’s layup with six seconds left propelled the Crimson Wave women’s basketball team to a victory today over the Ashford University Saints 61-60.

The Crimson Wave started the game in their full court press that has helped them pull out two three other victories this season.  “We knew the press would not stop Ashford today but slow them down” said head coach Cristina Schmidt.  That is exactly what the Crimson Wave got, a slowed down Ashford Saints.  Lydia Aceviz’s shooting in a back and forth first half helped the ladies to a 35-34 halftime lead.
 
“We went into half time knowing we had to focus on defense and stop some of the Ashford’s key screens” said Schmidt.  The second half was not much different than the first except the Crimson Wave’s half court defense came alive.   After trailing by five late in the second half the Crimson Wave chipped away.  With 17 seconds left Ashford’s Kelly Fisher hit a free throw to put the Saints up one.   After a Crimson Wave timeout, Bonham took a pass at the top of the key from Aceviz then drove the right side of the lane for the game winning bucket.    Lisa Upshaw led the Crimson Wave with 17 points while Aceviz threw in 15. 

“The girls came out strong and went hard all game.  Ashford was a good team that has experience.  We lost by thirty to them last year.  Our girls came out hard and really wanted the win and they got it.”  Said Coach Schmidt.

The Crimson Wave (4-1) will travel to Indiana University Northwest on Tuesday November 17th for a 7:00 pm game.

CCU Sinks Waves Ship

11/15/09 – The Crimson Wave men’s basketball traveled south to the Queen City to take on the Eagles of Cincinnati Christian University with the hope of finding victory.

The game began with each team exchanging multiple three point baskets and then the Eagles took advantage of out rebounding CCSJ to create an early lead of 17-6.  The first half would get no better as the Eagles continue to dominate their home court leading into the half with a 20 point lead over the Crimson Wave. 

Junior guard Wilfredo Escobar came out in the second half with the attempt of bringing the Crimson Wave back by rattling off a few key shots that would eventually decrease the Eagles lead to 10.  The Crimson Wave would get no closer and the Eagles regain momentum and would extend their lead to 19 points with the final score ending 103-90.  Escobar led the Crimson Wave with 30 points with sophomore CJ Montgomery chipping in 18.

The Crimson Wave 1-4 overall will host the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday November 18 in a 7:00 pm game at the Recreation Athletic Facility on the campus of CCSJ. 

Ladies Escape the Lancers

11/11/09 – The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team escaped a loss tonight against the Grace College Lancers 55-54.

After a slow start and little defense in the first nine minutes of play going down eleven points 16-5, the Crimson Wave called a timeout and refocused their energy.  Coming out in a full court press and a defensive mindset the ladies started to cause turnovers and score in transition.  In the final minutes of the first half the ladies put themselves within five on back to back layups by Jackie Feldpausch and Whitney Bonham.   The Crimson Wave continued to chip away and ended the half trailing by only two, 27-25. 

The second half of play started just as the first and the Crimson Wave found themselves down 9 points.  The Lancers put on a full court trap causing the ladies offensive to slow and turn the ball over.    With nearly 13 minutes left in play the Crimson Wave defense picked up and a quick run put the women back in the game and a tied score.   The Crimson Wave finished off the game in their full court press and a one point win. 

Lydia Aceviz scored 19 points leading the Crimson Wave.  Feldpausch dropped in 15 points and Bonham ripped down 12 rebounds in the win. 

The Crimson Wave (3-1) will travel to Ashford University on Saturday November 14th for a 1:00 pm game in Clinton, IA. 

Men Drop Game to Cougars Despite Good Night at the Line

11/10/09 - The Crimson Wave men’s basketball lost to CCAC division one opponent St. Xavier University tonight 81-65. 

The Crimson Wave trailed by only two at the half 41-39 after shooting 90 percent from the free-throw line.    After a slow start in the second half the Crimson Wave fell behind by 15 despite shooting 85.7 percent from the line.    The men never got back into rhythm falling to the Cougars.   Wilfredo Escobar led the men with 15 points.  Robert Pogue and Keith Dean dropped in 13 a piece. 

The Crimson Wave (1-3) will travel to Cincinnati Christian on Saturday November 14th for a 3:00 pm game. 

Dean Makes His Mark at the Line

11/11/09 - Crimson Wave men’s basketball player Keith Dean earned Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for the week ending on Sunday November 8th.
 
Dean made his mark on the week with two twenty plus point games.  On November 4th the Crimson Wave took on CCAC Division 1 opponent the University of St. Francis where Dean poured in 25 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.  Three days later Dean went for 28 points against Malone University also grabbing 11 rebounds and three assists.    To cap it off Dean was perfect from the free throw line going 13-13. 

Crimson Wave Wretling Meet Changed

11/9/09 - The Crimson Wave wrestling team has changed events for this coming weekend, Saturday November 14, 2009. The Crimson Wave will not be traveling to the Michigan State Open but instead to the Ben McMullen Open Tournament held at Muskegon Community College in Muskegon, MI. The event wil be held in the Bartels-Rode Gymnasium and start at 10:00 am EST.

Wrestling Has First National Qualifiers

11/8/09 - The Crimson Wave wrestling team qualified two wrestlers for the NAIA National Wrestling Championships with Derek Allen and Nick Fouts.

Derek Allen went 4-0 on the day winning the open. Allen took on Colton Wagner from Wartberg College in his first match, winning 7-4. The second match up was with Hannibal-Lagrange's Josh Smith. Allen. Allen's last two match's were agasint Brice Gretch from Wartberg and Brandon Starkey of Concordia University.

Nick fouts went 2-2 on the day with a pin. Anthony Nuzzo joined Fouts at 2-2 on the day.

The Crimson Wave will travel to Wabash College on Tuesday November 10th for a dual meet.

Men Finish 8th in CCAC

11/7/09 - The Crimson Wave men’s cross country team competed at the CCAC Cross Country Championships this weekend hosted by the University of St. Francis at Dellwood Park in Joliet, IL.

The Crimson Wave captured eighth place finishing in front of Holy Cross College and Cardinal Stritch University.  Senior Richard Gutierrez led men finishing 25th overall in 28:53.72. Sophomore Robbie Loop finished 36th overall in 29:44.18.  Freshman Tyler Stiscak finished 50th with freshman Ptah El-Aton finishing 55th.  Freshman Mike Dzurovcik rounded out the men in 58th. 

This was the final meet of the season for the men and first year coach Don Reed.      

Free Throw Shooting Cost the Crimson Wave

11/7/09 – The Malone University Pioneers flooded the Crimson Wave men’s basketball team today 85-76.  Keith Dean tried to keep the Crimson Wave afloat with 28 points and 11 rebounds.
 
After a slow start and a ten point deficit in the first eight minutes of play, the Crimson Wave made an 8 point run capped off by a CJ Montgomery jumper to put themselves back in the game 31-28.  The final minutes of the first half would end the same as it started and the men headed to the locker rooms trailing by ten at the half. 

The second half would see the Crimson Wave’s first lead of the day at the fifteen minute mark, 53-52 on a Dean jump shot.   After a series of back and forth scoring the Pioneers opened up the game to six points and never looked back, despite eight points from Dean in the final three minutes of play.  Wilfredo Escobar added 17 points for the men. 

The Crimson Wave (1-2) will host St. Xavier University Tuesday November 10th at 7:00 pm.  The game will be played at the Recreation Athletic Facility on the campus of Calumet College of St. Joseph.  

Crimson Wave Rolls Over Hornets

11/6/09 - The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team rolled over Harris-Stowe State University for their second victory of the season.  The 83-76 overtime win over the Hornet’s marks the best start in Crimson Wave women’s basketball history. 
 
After a splashy start and 14 first half turnovers the Crimson Wave went to the locker room trailing 36-26.  In the second half the tides turned for the Crimson Wave with a change in defense.  The Crimson Wave’s full court man to man press caused 27 turnovers by the Hornets.  Trailing by 10 with 7 minutes remaining in the half the ladies scored 10 unanswered points on a Lydia Aceviz three pointer, two back to back baseline jumpers by Jasmine Richardson and a three point bucket by Lisa Upshaw to cap it off. 

Clinging to a three point lead, 71-68, with three minutes left the Crimson Wave let the Hornets back in the game ending regulation in tie at 68 apiece.  In overtime the Crimson Wave came crashing through with an 8 point run to start.  After a series of back and forth buckets the Hornets finally drowned 83-76.   

Upshaw led the Crimson Wave with 21 points, while Aceviz had 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists.  Moneva Fields added to the ladies effort with 12 points and 8 rebounds.

Fentress Named CCAC POW

11/5/09 - Senior men’s soccer player Ryan Fentress has earned CCAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the week ending on November 1st.    

The Crimson Wave earned it’s first-ever victory over Judson University, this year's regular-season champions. Although Judson had already wrapped up the regular-season title, Calumet's playoff dreams were still alive and the Crimson Wave took care of business against the Eagles winning 3-2. Fentress contributed in two of the team's three goals, scoring the goal to put Calumet up 2-0 and then assisting on the game-winning goal.

“Ryan has been a cornerstone of the men’s soccer program during his four years as a varsity players.  He came up big against one of the best teams in the conference traditionally in  Judson University.  The victory over JU was another accomplishment in the program’s short four year history.  His effort in earning the CCAC offensive players of the week for the second time this season is a credit to his soccer talent.” Said Head Coach Peter Haring

Men Suffer First Loss

11/4/09 - The Crimson Wave men's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season tonight 94-84 to the University of St. Francis despite an 11 point first half lead.

The Crimson Wave came out strong and took an early 13-2 lead in the first three and a half minutes of play. St. Francis finally tied the game at 25 after a string of three point baskets. After a back and fourth battle in the final minutes of the first half the Cirmson Wave headed to the locker room trailing by three, 46-43.

The Crimson Wave would take the lead twice in the second half with the second coming at 55-53 in the first five minutes play. The Fighting Saints took over in the second half allowing the Crimson Wave to only get as close as four the rest of the half.

Junior Keith Dean led the men tonight with 25 points.

The Crimson Wave (1-1) will travel host Malone College at 1:00 pm on Saturday November 7th at the Recreation Athletic Facility on the campus of Calumet College of St. Joseph.

Men’s Soccer Ends Season

11/3/09 - The Crimson Wave men’s soccer team ended their season tonight against CCAC opponent St. Xavier University.  The Cougars defeated the Crimson Wave 6-0. 

The Crimson Wave honored their six seniors, Ryan Fentress, Miguel Diaz, Francisco Padilla, Danny Torres, Eric Ruiz and Brendan Mulroe in a half-time ceremony.  The men end their season 5-11-2 overall. 

Men’s Soccer Game Moved

11/2/09 – The Crimson Wave men’s soccer game on Tuesday November 3, 2009 against St. Xavier University will be played at Portage High School in Portage, IN.  The game time will be changed to 5:00 pm.   This will be senior night for the Crimson Wave.  

Crimson Wave Upset Conference Powerhouse JU

10/31/09 - The Crimson Wave men's soccer team traveled to Elgin, IL to take on the regular season conference champions, Judson University. Scoring for CCSJ began soon after the opening whistle in the 2:30 minute mark with junior striker Edward Barcenas scoring near post of off a conrer kick from junior Jose Sandoval. The Crimson Wave kept rolling and scored in their second goal of the game three minutes later when senior striker Ryan Fentress (assisted by Ed Barcenas) laced a low driven shot near post to beat Judson's goalkeeper to take a early 2-0 lead. The Eagles of Judson fought back midway through the first half and scored off of a free kick to cut the lead in half 2-1. With 20 seconds remaining in the first half Judson scored to tie the match 2-2.

CCSJ came out of halftime looking to try and take the lead early like the first half. The Crimson had a couple of good shots on goal by junior Bobby Miroski and Fentress. Both teams held their own throughout the first twenty-five minutes of the second half, then senior Miguel Diaz made a perfect run from the weak side of the field to score off of a well placed pass from Fentress. The lazer of a shot from Diaz gave the Crimson Wave the 3-2 lead and eventually the victory. Freshman goalkeeper Hector Zamano finished the game with seven saves. Men Defeat Silver Lake in Home Opener

10/31/09 - The Crimson Wave men's basketball team defeated Silver Lake College in there home opener today 84-71. Wilfredo Escobar led the men with 22 points.

Ladies Crush Silver Lake

10/31/09 - The Crimson Wave women's basketball defeated Silver Lake College in their home opener today 112-38. Joselyn Gray led the ladies with 20 points. The ladies are now 1-0 on the season.

Men Fall Short at Home

10/28/09 - The Crimson Wave men's soccer team fell short tonight to conference opponent Trinity International Univeristy 2-1. The men's only goal was scored by Bobby Miroski on a Jeff Melton assist.

The Crimson Wave (2-10-2) will travel to Judson University on Saturday October 31st for a 2:00 pm conference match up.

Crimson Wave Named “Champions of Character”

10/25/09 - Calumet College of St. Joseph’s Crimson Wave Athletic department has earned the distinction as a “Champions of Character” institution for 2008-09.  This distinction was awarded by the NAIA to 231 member institutions that met the Champions of Character requirements.  The mission of the Champions of Character program is to instill in every athlete the five key character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership.    

To be considered a Champions of Character institution, schools must complete a form which is later reviewed by a team directed by NAIA Vice President of Champions of Character Rob Haworth. These schools incorporate the five core values in the campus community and educate student-athletes, coaches, parents and fans on specific standards and expectations.

Cross Country Competes at Great Lakes Challenge

10/24/09 - The Crimson Wave men’s cross country team traveled to Aquinas College today to compete in the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge, where they finished 21st overall. 

Richard Gutierrez led the men finishing 68th overall with a time of 27:25.43 while Robbie Loop finished 92nd in 28:04.11.  Tyler Stiscak finished 131st with Fred Olaosebikan right on his heels at 137th.  Joe Efantis and Mike Dzurovcik round out the men finishing 142nd and 145th respectively.

Men Wash Away Trolls

10/24/09 – The Crimson Wave men’s soccer team defeated CCAC opponent Trinity Christian College 2-1.  Bobby Miroski scored the Crimson Wave’s first goal on a Ryan Fentress assist.  Jose Sandoval scored the men’s second goal on a double assisted free kick from Edwin Moreno to Miroski.

The Crimson Wave (4-9-2) will host CCAC opponent Trinity International University on Wednesday October 28th at 3:00 pm. 

Crimson Wave Invite Day 2 Recap

10/24/09 – The University of Northwestern Ohio walked away with a 4-0 record and a championship trophy at the 3rd annual Crimson Wave Invite today.

Day two of the invite saw William Penn defeat Calumet College of St. Joseph in three games with the Northwestern Ohio defeating Grace College in the final round of pool (A) play.   Pool B’s final round ended with Mount Mercy College defeating Cardinal Stritch University in five games with Goshen defeating Bethel College in four games.
The Crossover round featured Pool A winner Northwestern Ohio sweeping Pool B winner Goshen College in three games.  William Penn defeated Bethel College in four games, while Grace College defeated Mount Mercy and Cardinal Stritch defeated Calumet College of St. Joseph in three games each.    For complete results and All-Invite Team please Click Here

Crimson Wave Invite Day One Recap

10/23/09 - The 3rd annual Crimson Wave Invite ended day one with two teams going 2-0 in the University of Northwestern Ohio and Bethel College. 

Pool A saw host Calumet College of St. Joseph being defeated in a match one by Grace College 3-0.  Match two brought a tight match with Northwestern Ohio defeating William Penn University 3-1.  Northwestern Ohio would come back in match three and defeat host Calumet College of St. Joseph 3-0, giving them the current lead of Pool A.  The final match in the pool had William Penn sweeping Grace College 3-0. 

Pool B brought continuous excitement, with each match going four or five games respectively.  The pool started with Cardinal Stritch University and Goshen College battling it out in four games.   Goshen College would pull out the win in a dominating fourth game.  Match two saw Mount Mercy College and Bethel College in the first of two five game matches.  Bethel overcame Mount Mercy in a back and forth match.  Bethel and Cardinal Stritch had match three decided in four games with Bethel winning their second straight match of the night.   Bethel’s 2-0 record gives them the current lead in Pool B.  Match four brought Mount Mercy and Goshen College together for a five game match.  After taking a 2-1 lead Goshen fell to Mount Mercy 3-2.

Soccer Games Change Time

10/22/09 - The Crimson Wave men and women's soccer games against Trinity Christian College on Saturday October 24th have changed times. The women's game will kickoff at 1:00 pm, and the men at 3:00 pm.

Volleyball Takes First Conference Victory

10/20/09 – The Crimson Wave volleyball team captured their first conference win in program history tonight, when they beat Cardinal Stritch University 3 game to 2. 

The Crimson Wave walked through the first game 25-12.  The second game brought a 25-13 loss.  Game three the Crimson Wave gave away 25-22.  Game four found the Crimson Wave down early after a back and fourth game through the Crimson Wave took the win 26-24. 
Game five brought the match even tighter when the Crimson Wave won 17-15. 

Kelsey McFarlane led the Crimson Wave with 14 kills.  Katie Kaiser added 9 kills, with Ashley Kieltyka adding 7 kills.  Kate Delaney had 35 assists on the night. 

Men Take Conference Loss

10/20/09 - The Crimson Wave men's soccer team took a conference loss tonight to conference opponent Olivet Nazarene University 5-1. Andy Austin scored the Crimson Wave's only goal unassisted.

The Crimson Wave (3-9-2) will host Trinity Christian College Saturday October 24th at 2:00 pm.

Men Finish Big at Orange and Black

10/18/09 - The Crimson Wave men's bowling team finished 2nd overall at the Orange and Black Classic held in Beavercreek, OH.

The Crimson Wave opened bracket play crushing Toledo University three games to zero (205-167, 214-193, 257-247). The men advance to the second round against Wright State University winning in four games ( 191-236, 226-213, 207-170, 219-214). The championship round put the Crimson Wave up against Lindenwood University. The men fell just short losing to Lindendwood three games to one.

Men Take 4th at Island Hills

10/13/09 - The Crimson Wave men's golf team finished 4th overall at the Island Hills Invitational today at Glen Oaks College in Centerville, MI. Anthony Johnson finished 2nd overall shooting a 77 each day for a 144 total. T.J. Komvalinka shot an 81 today while Gary Ison shot a 84 and Ben Davis shot an 85.

Men Run Tough at Lucian Rosa

10/10/09 - The Crimson Wave cross country team finished 19th overall at the Lucian Rosa Invitational this weekend at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

Robbie Loop led the men finishing 131st with a time of 29:08.4. Fred Oldosebikan followed right behind finishing 163rd in 30:45.1. Tyler Stiscak was 171st with Ptah El-Aton finishing 186th and Mike Dzurovcik at 191st.

Men Fall Short at IIT

10/10/09 - The Crimson Wave men’s soccer team fell short today at Illinois Tech 7-4 in a CCAC match up.  Jeff Melton and Edward Barcenas each had a goal while Andrew Goralczyk had two goals for the Crimson Wave.  Jose Sandoval and Melton each had an assist. 

The Crimson Wave (3-8-2 overall, 1-3-1 CCAC) will travel to Olivet Nazarene University on October 20th for a 2:00 pm CCAC game.

Ladies Split at Robert Morris Tri

10/10/09 - The Crimson Wave women's tennis team split at the Robert Morris Tri-Match today. The ladies defeated conference opponent St. Ambrose University 6-3. In the second match up of the day the Crimson Wave fell to Robert Morris University 7-2.

Ladies Take Loss at Home

10/7/09 - The Crimson Wave women's soccer team was defeated at home today by conference opponent the University of St. Francis 4-0, after being down by only a goal at the half. Linda Munoz had eight saves for the ladies.

The Crimson Wave (1-12 overall, 0-5 CCAC) will travel to Illinois Tech on Saturday October 10, for a 12:00 pm game.

Men Lose Tough Game

10/6/09 - The Crimson Wave men's soccer team lost a tough battle today to the University of St. Francis 2-1 in a wet and windy battle.

The Crimson Wave men gave up two early goals before answering back in the forty-third minute of play on a Ryan Fentress goal. The second half would go with out a goal.

The men are now 3-7-2 overall and 1-2-1 in CCAC play. The Crimson Wave will travel to Illinois Tech Saturday October 10th for a 2:00 pm CCAC match up.

Ladies Edged Out at Holy Cross

10/3/09 - The Crimson Wave women's soccer team was edged out today at Holy Cross College.

Holy Cross, the newest member of the Chicagoland Collegiate athletic conference took an early lead on the Crimson Wave today. In the forty-fourth minute of play the Crimson Wave's Gabriela Rodriguez scored the tying goal. The ladies could not hold giving Holy Cross a goal in the eighty-eighth minute, making the final 2-1. Linda Munoz had five saves for the ladies.

The Crimson Wave are now 1-11 overall and 0-3 in CCAC play.

Men Battle at Holy Cross

10/3/09 - The Crimson Wave men's soccer team fought a tough ninety minute battle against Holy Cross College.

Holy Cross, the newest member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference scored the games only goal, defeating the Crimson Wave 1-0. The men are now 3-6-2 overall and 1-1-1 in CCAC play.

9/30/09 - The Crimson Wave men's soccer team defeated confernece opponent Cardinal Stritch University 2-1. Jeff Melton scored the men's first goal while Jose Sandoval scored the second off a Bobby Miroski assist. The men are now 3-5-2 overall and 1-1 in CCAC play.

Men Finish 14th at Pilot Invitational

9/26/09 - The Crimson Wave men's golf team finished 14th overall at the Bethel College Pilot Invitational. Anthony Johnson and T.J. Konvalinka finished tied at 53rd shooting a 163 for the two rounds. Ben Davis shot a 172 finishing 67th overall, while Gary Ison finished 72nd and Jude Keelan 79th.

Men Finish 8th overall at the Forester Invitational

9/26/09 - The Crimson Wave men’s cross country team finished 8th overall at the Forester Invitational today.  Richard Gutierrez led the way for the men finishing 16th overall, running a time of 27:32.  Robbie Loop finished 19th running 27:36 while Fred Olaosebikan finished 67th.  Tyler Stiscak at 76th, Ptah El-Aton at 107th and Mike Dzurovcik at 115th round out the Crimson Wave.

9/19/09 - The Crimson Wave women’s soccer team was defeated at Goshen College today 3-0.  Linda Munoz had 9 saves for the ladies.  The Crimson Wave (1-7) will travel to Judson University on Wednesday September 23 for a 4:00 pm conference match up.

9/19/09 - The Crimson Wave men's soccer team fell short at Huntington University today being defeated 1-0. Hector Zamano had six saves for the men. The men are now 2-5-1. The Crimson Wave will travel to Robert Morris College on Saturday September 26 for a conference match up.

Men Compete at the National Catholic Invitational

9/18/09 – The Crimson Wave men’s cross country team competed at the National Catholic Invitational today at the University of Notre Dame. Richard Gutierrez finished 24th running a time of 29:07.2, while Robbie Loop finished 40th (30:16.8) and Tyler Stiscak finished 55th (32:10.3).

9/15/09 - The Crimson Wave men’s soccer team was defeated at home tonight by Spring Arbor University 7-1.  Jose Sandoval scored the Crimson Wave’s only goal in the 12th minute of play.  The men are now 2-4-1 overall.

9/8/09 - Crimson Wave senior basketball player Fares Saqf-AlHait has been named to the Jordan U23 National Team. Saqf-AlHait averaged 7.9 ppg and 2.3 rpg per game for the Crimson Wave last season.
