Bane, Leads Wave at National Collegiate Team Matches

11/29/08 - Senior Sarah Bane led the Wave finishing 2nd overall averaging 202, this weekend at the National Collegiate Team Matches in Fairview Heights, IL. The Crimson Wave finished 19th overall as a team. Sophomore Melissa Christianson finished 27th individually with a 188 avg.

Men Struggle at National Collegiate Team Matches

11/29/08 - The Crimson Wave men's bowling team struggled this weekend at the National Collegiate Team Matches in Fairview Heights, IL. The men finished 16th overall out of 37 teams. Junior Ryan Gleghorn led the men finishing 25th individually witha 209 avg. while sophomore Sammy Krucek finished 42nd averaging 200.

Wave Let Two Wash Away at Baymont Inn Classic

11/22/08 - The Crimson Wave women’s basketball team traveled to Springfield, IL this weekend to compete in the Baymont Inn Classic at the University of Illinois-Springfield.  In the opening game of the classic the Crimson Wave took on Harris-Stowe University.  The ladies trailed Harris-Stowe 35-27 at the end of the first half.  With 12:17 left in the second half the ladies cut the Harris-Stowe lead to four on a Candace Bishop layup.   This would be the closest the ladies would come, Harris-Stowe took the game 59-55.  The ladies were led by freshman Moneva Fields double double performance of 15 points and 15 rebounds.  Freshman Nikkia Brown added 10 points and 5 rebounds in the effort. 

In game the final game of the classic the Wave took on host Illinois-Springfield.  Going into the half the ladies trailed the Prairie Stars 40-23. After cutting the lead to 12 with 15:26 left in play the ladies let the game slip away to the Prairie Stars 83-50.   Sophomore Lecreia Hudson and freshman Moneva Fields led the Wave with 12 points each.

The Crimson Wave now 1-6 overall will travel to Chicago, IL on Tuesday November 25 to take on Robert Morris College (CCAC Division I) in a 7:00 pm game.  The game will take place on the campus of Loyola University at the Gentile Center.

Crimson Wave No Push Over Against # 2 RMC

11/19/08 - Sophomore Wilfredo Escobar took on the role of floor general to guide the Crimson Wave in an exciting game against # 2 NAIA D-I nationally ranked Robert Morris.  CCSJ exchanged baskets early on in the first half with the Eagles of Robert Morris to keep the game even during the first eight minutes of the game.  Senior Jon Hanselman (18 points and 8 rebounds) led the beginning surge with a couple of key baskets and a baseline drive against IU transfer DeAndre Thomas.  The Eagles of RMC took advantage of a couple key youthful Crimson Wave turnovers to extend the lead to ten points and carried it into halftime, 35-25.

Escobar and his teammates entered the second half with confidence and control pressing RMC into their own turnovers, which lead to some key hoops by freshmen CJ Montgomery (8 points and 6 rebounds) and Charles Outlaw (12 points).  The sophomore leader then began his attack and capitalized by forcing RMC to get into foul trouble.  CCSJ continued their surge and cut the ten point lead to one with five minutes remaining in the game, 61-60.  The experience and athleticism of RMC put the Crimson Wave to one more test and forced CCSJ to commit a couple of more turnovers to gain the lead for good to win the game 76-67.  Escobar finished the night with 24 points (13-18 from the free throw line) along with 6 assists and 3 steals.  Calumet College of St. Joseph overall record is now 1-6.

Wave Take Tough Loss To Grace

11/19/08 - Sophomore Lisa Upshaw led the Wave with 9 points in a tough loss to Grace College tonight 67-36. Jasmine Richardson, Lecreia Hudson and Nikkia Brown each had 8 points for the Wave. Brown also grabbed 6 boards for the ladies. The women are now 1-4 overall.

Brown Earns CCAC POW Honors

11/18/08 - A pair of double-doubles has landed Calumet College of St. Joseph's Nikkia Brown (Lansing, Ill.) Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Divison II Player of the Week accord for the week ending Nov. 16.

Brown, a 6-0 freshman center, matched her 12 points with 12 rebounds and dished out three assists in a 59-49 setback to Illinois Institute of Technology on Nov. 13.

Then, on Nov. 16, Brown tallied another 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds and two steals in a 79-64 road loss to Marian College (Ind.).

All told, she averaged 13.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game in the two affairs.Calumet St. Joseph's pair of losses left the Crimson Wave at 1-3 on the season.

Women Receive Sportsmanship Award

11/17/08 - The Crimson Wave women's soccer team has been selected by the CCAC women's soccer coaches to receive the 2008 Karl Boeck Sportsmanship Award. This honor is given each year to a team that consistently displays sportsmanship throughout the season.

Young Wave Defeated in Indianapolis

11/16/08 - Freshman Jasmine Richardson led the Wave with 22 points going 7-13 from the field in the ladies 79-64 loss to Marian College today in Indianapolis, IN. Freshman Nikkia Brown had a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds while sophomore Lecreia Hudson had 14 points.

The Wave (1-3) will host Grace College on Wednesday November 19th in a 5:30 pm game. The game will be played on the Wave's home floor at the Hammond Civic Center in Hammond, IN.

Men Defeated at Michigan-Dearborn

11/15/08 - The Crimson Wave men's basketball team was defeated today at the University of Michigan-Dearborn 77-55. Freshman CJ Montgomery led the Wave with 15 points and 6 rebounds, while Freshman Eli Macis had 13 points. The men's record is now 1-5 overall. The men's next game will be Wednesday November 19th at 7:30 pm against Robert Morris College.

Brown Has Double Double in Loss to Scarlet Hawks

11/13/08 - Freshman Nikkia Brown led the Wave with a double double tonight in the ladies 59-49 loss to Illinois Tech.  Brown finished the night with 12 points and rebounds.  Sophomore Lisa Upshaw added 12 points for the Wave. 
The ladies now 1-2 will travel to Indianapolis, IN Sunday November 16th to take on Marion College in a 1:00 pm EST game. 

Men Take Hard Loss to Huntington

11/12/08 – Sophomore Wilfredo Escobar led the with 25 points in a 92-75 loss to Huntington University tonight.  Jon Contos added 11 points for the Wave, while Waybon McConnell had 6 boards.  The Wave now 1-4 overall will take on the University of Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday November 15 on the road in a 3:00 pm EST match up. 

Men Finish 6th at Boilermaker Classic

11/9/08 - Junior Ryan Gleghorn led the Crimson Wave with a 226 avg. at the Ebonite Boilermaker Classic this weekend in Lafayette, IN. Missing two starters, and going up against a very challenging field the Crimson Wave fell behind earlier and found themselves in 12th place midway through day one. In the fiftth game of the day the men scored 1,180 pins and moved themselves up to 6th place, where they would end the day. Sunday, bringing challenging lane conditions, pushed the Wave back earlier and in ninth place. After fighting back and making every roll count the men finished the classic in 5th place. Gleghorn finished 8th individually, while Danny Locke finished 16th with a 221 avg.

Women Compete at Boilermaker Classic

11/9/08 - The Crimson Wave women's bowling team finished 9th at the Boilermaker Classic this weekend in Lafayette, IN. The ladies were led by sophomore Melissa Christianson's 199 average (12th individually). Christianson was followed by a 21st and 22nd individual finish by sophomore Chandra Murphy and senior Sara Bane both having a 194 average.

Wave Fall to No. 2 Bethel

11/8/08 - The Crimson Wave men's basketball team crashed against the No. 2 (NAIA Division 2) Bethel College 114-66 in the final game of the Bethel College Classic tonight at Wiekamp Athletic Center. Sophomore Wilfredo Escobar led the Wave with 22 points and three assists while senior Marcellus Phelps and freshman CJ Montgomery each had 14 points for the men.

The Crimson Wave now 1-3 overall will host Hungtington University on Wednesday November 12 at 7:00 pm. The game will be held on the Wave's home floor at the Hammond Civic Center.

Wave Feels Inexperience

11/8/08 - The inexperience of the young Wave felt the tough road ahead this season against Ashford University today being defeated 86-61 in Clinton, IA. The ladies were led by Jasmine Richardson's 19 points and 5 assists. Lisa Upshaw help in the effort with 17 points and 6 rebounds.

The Wave (1-1 overall) will travel to Illinois Tech on Thursday November 13 for a 7:00 pm game.

Wave Compete at CCAC Meet

11/8/08 - The Crimson Wave men's cross country competed at the CCAC conference meet today in Bourbonnais, IL. The men were led by Richard Gutierrez's 24th place finish and a time of 28:33.51. Finishing 34th was the Wave's Robbie Loop, running 29:24.36. Brian Bowman finished 43rd (30:15.810), Joe Efantis 49th (31:31.03), and rounding out the men Enrique Catalan finishing 53rd (40:09.76). This was the last meet of the 2008 season for the men's cross country team.

11/7/08 – The youthful inexperience of the Crimson Wave learned a hard lesson in the 86-64 loss to Davenport University tonight in the second game of the Bethel College Classic.  Senior Jon Hanselman used his court knowledge to keep the Wave in the game in the early parts of the first half, using his size in the paint to score 12 first half points.   The Crimson Wave took the lead 20-19 at the 8:20 mark in the first half.  After a back and forth battle, the Wave would take their last lead of the half with 3:18 left, 30-28 after Wilfredo Escobar was fouled on a three point attempt, converting all three free throws.   The Wave would trail 36-33 going into the half.  Starting the second half the Crimson Wave came out with a new sense of energy and an eight run led by a pair of three point buckets by sophomore Jon Contos.  With nearly 8:00 minutes left in the second half Hanselman would leave the game with ankle injury ending the night with 14 points on 6-7 from the field and the Wave would let any chance of victory slip by.  Sophomore Wilfredo Escobar led the men with 21 points shooting 75% from the field (6-8). 

The Wave now 1-2 will take on the number two ranked Bethel College in day two of the Bethel College Classic at 3:00 pm EST.  All games of the classic are held at Wiekamp Athletic Center on the Campus of Bethel College.

Women Defeat RedHawks in Season Opener

11/5/08 - Freshman Nikkia Brown (Thornwood HS) led the Crimson Wave with 15 points tonight on 6-14 from the field in the Wave's 62-53 victory over the Indiana University Northwest RedHawks. Lisa Upshaw (E.C. Central HS) also helped in the effort with 14 points, while Brittany Luckett (Rich East HS) pulled down 8 boards for the Wave.

The Crimson Wave (1-0) will take on Ashford University Saturday, November 8, in a 1:00 pm matchup. The game will be held in Clinton, IA.

Men Take Early Loss to Cougars

11/4/08 – Sophomore Jon Contos led the Crimson Wave with 21 points going 7-11 from behind the arc, in the Waves loss to St. Xavier University.  The Wave came out strong jumping to a 17-10 lead in the first five minutes of play.  The Cougars would lead at the half 40-36.   Despite the Wave shooting 71.2 percent (5-7) from behind the arc, the second half ended in a Crimson Wave loss 81-71.  Wilfredo Escobar also threw in 20 points in the Wave’s effort.

The Crimson Wave (1-1 overall) will travel to the Bethel College Classic this weekend in Mishawaka, IN.  On Friday November 7, the Wave will take on Davenport University in a 8:00 pm (EST) matchup.  Saturday the Wave will wrap up the classic taking on host Bethel College in a 3:00 pm (EST) match up. Bethel College is currently ranked 2nd in NAIA Divsion II.

Waybon McConnell scores in the second half of todays game

11/1/08 - The Crimson Wave men's basketball team opened the season with a 99-93 victory over Indiana University Northwest RedHawks today in the opening game of the Kettle Classic. After trailing by ten at the half, 45-35, the Wave took control in the second half, taking the lead at 16 minute mark and never looking back. Sophomore Wilfredo Escobar led the Wave with 33 points, being helped by Senior Marcellus Phelps's 17 points and Sophomore Jon Contos's 13 points. Phelps also had 8 rebounds, while Senior Jon Hanselman pulled
down 9. The men will take on St. Xavier University Tuesday November 4th at 7:00 pm at the Shannon Center in Chicago, IL.
