Crimson Wave baseball player Sean Brummett has been named CCAC All-Conference First Team, while Ryan Young was named All-Conference Honorable Mention. Brummett batted a .326 and had .826 fielding average. Ryan Young batted a .333 and had 29 RBI's. The men finished their season 15-21.

(4/30/08)Simunic, Wiersema named Honorable Mention
Crimson Wave softball players Laura Simunic and Aubrey Wiersema have been named to the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference Honorable Mention team. Simunic batted a .336 this season with 21RBI's and an on base percentage of .443. Wiersema batted .366 with 21 RBI's and an on base percentage of .388. The ladies also helped this years team to the programs best record of 17-23.

(4/20/08)Men's Bowling Finishes 7th at Nationals
The Calumet College of St. Joseph Men's bowing team ended their season in respectable fashion with a 7th Palce finish this week at the USBC Intercollegiate Team Chamionships in Wichita, KS. The Crimson Wave entered the championship ranked 6th in the nation, and coming off their win at the USBC Sectional Qualifier a month earlier.

The Crimson Wave, in just their second season of collegiate play, made notable progress in their quest to develop a top collegiate bowling program. They improved on their national ranking and advanced an additional round at this year's ITC. They, also, captured their first tournament title at the Eagle Classic in Waukegan, IL. Most notable was their first place finish at this year's USBC Sectional Qualifier in Fairview Heights, IL., the event that allowed them to return to this year's national finals.

At the ITC in Wichita, the Wave started competition with an impressive first round qualifying performance, as they finished round 1 in second place with a team baker average of 210. In round 2, the lanes played more difficult, and the men from Calumet College fell off a bit, ending the first day's qualifying rounds as the 7th seed entering Friday's double elimination match play portion of the championships.

On Friday, the Crimson Wave men came out tense, and before they knew it, Wisconsin-Whitewater had swept the initial match 4-0. On the verge of being eliminated with another loss in match 2, the Crimson Wave players responded with a 4-1 victory over Mohawk Valley Community College from Utica, NY.

Next up for CCSJ was Fresno State University from California. The Wave won game one in close fashion, then lost the next two games to fall behind in the match 2-1. Facing elimination with another match defeat, the Crimson Wave responded soundly to win the next three games, and eliminate Fresno from competition 4-2. This brought about a rematch with Wisconsin-Whitewater, the team that defeated Calumet College in round 1 of match play.

The Wave's momentum continued to show, as they won games one and two in convincing fashion against Whitewater. Seeking revenge against the earlier defeat, the Wave were poised to continue advancing toward Saturday's semi-final match play round. It was not to be, however, and Whitewater surged past CCSJ and took the next four games to eliminate the Crimson Wave from competition 4-2.

Calumet College's 7th place finish was another step in the right direction for the young bowling program. With their improvement at the ITC, to go along with 2 tournament victories this season, the Calumet College of St. Joseph's Men's Bowling program continues to advance toward their goal of becoming one of college bowling's elite programs. With most of the current squad returning, and several new recruits already signed for next season, Calumet College of St. Joseph will continue to be a team to watch in the future.

(4/20/08)Women's Bowling at USBC Nationals
The Calumet College Women's Bowling Team competed in the 2008 USBC Women's team Championships in Wichita, KS this past week. In only the second year of the program's history this group of special young ladies were able to advance to the National Finals where only the top 16 women's teams in the country qualify to compete. The Lady Wave qualified 14th after 32 baker games of qualifying averaging 181. During the double elimination format, the women faced eventual team champions Pikeville College and the bulldogs of Fresno State. The ladies competed at their highest level of the season pushing both competitors to six games in the best of seven format. However, the ladies were unable to come out on top at this year's competition.

Coach Washington on this year's performance: "I am extremely proud of this year's team and the way they represented Calumet College on and off the lanes. The strides this year's team made toward the end of the season should make next year very exciting. Four returning members of this year's national squad in addition to a talented incoming freshman class the future looks very bright for our team and program.

(4/20/08)Softball Splits with Marian
The Crimson Wave softball team split with Marian College today in Indianapolis. Game one the Wave was defeated 4-0. Game two brought a 5-4 Crimson Wave victory when Brittany Dickerson batted in the winning run in the seventh inning. Dickerson went 2-4 in the game. Stephanie Zimny also went 2-4 with a double and two stolen bases. Ashley Dau pitched the win for the Wave. The ladies record is now 15-20.

(4/20/08)Baseball Defeated at St. Francis
The Crimson Wave baseball team was defeated in both games of the double header with conference opponent the University of St. Francis. The Wave were defeated in game one 5-2 and also in game two 9-1. The men's record is now 13-17 overall and 5-13 in conference.

(4/19/08)Track and Field at Olivet
The Crimson Wave track and field team competed at the Olivet Nazarene University Invitational today. The men finished strong today with Mike Rainbolt leading the way in the 800 meter run finishing 4th with a time of 1:56.33. The 4X400 relay team finished 3rd overall with a time of 3:27.38.

(4/18/08)Softball Defeated, and Tied with Pomeroys
Friday brought the Crimson Wave softball team eighteen innings of well-played softball, but no wins.

In game one of the double header against the St. Mary-of-the-Woods Pomeroys the Wave were held to a season-low one hit by Pomeroys pitcher Ashley Loomis. The host team scored 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win game one 3-0.

Penny Bensinger broke up the no-hitter with a single in the top of the fourth inning.

The bats warmed up for game two with the Wave scoring 5 runs in the first inning. Unfortunately they could not dent home plate again in this 11-inning marathon contest with the Pomeroys that was stopped by darkness. The Pomeroys pecked away at the lead, finally knotting the game at 5 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Neither team would score before darkness halted the action.

CCSJ had their second highest hit total of the season (16), but the big hit eluded them after the first inning.

For the Crimson Wave Jessica Chamberlain was 3-for-5, Penny Bensinger had 2 RBI and Stephanie Zimny had 3 RBI. Bensinger, Zimny, and Brittany Dickerson each doubled.

The 11 inning game was the longest game of the season.

The softball team is now 14-19-1 for the season and 1-1-1 in extra inning games.

Crimson Wave bowler Ryan Gleghorn has been named to the NCBCA 2007-2008 All-American second team. Gleghorn was also named to the BWAA 2007-2008 College Players of the Year runner up team. Gleghorn will try to lead his team to a USBC National Championship this week.

The Crimson Wave softball team split today with Trinity Christian College. Game one the Wave were defeated 3-2. Laura Simunic had a triple with one run scored. Game two brought a win 4-3 for the Wave after Penny Bensinger drove in two runs off a double in the bottom of the seventh. Stephanie Zimny was the winning pitcher for Wave with 16 strike outs. The Waves record is now 14-18 and 3-12 in conference.

(4/12/08)Dau Pitches No Hitter in Wave Victory
Junior pitcher Ashley Dau (Chicago Heights, Ill.) pitched a no-hitter against Mount Mary College (Milwaukee, Wis.) as the Crimson Wave (13-17) beat the Blue Angels 20-1. In the five inning victory Dau allowed only three runners to reach base (2 walks, 1 hit batter) despite less than ideal conditions in the cold and recurring rain. The Blue Angels scored when the lead-off batter walked in the fourth inning, advanced on a wild pitch and scored following two ground-outs. Dau struck out seven and induced seven infield outs, with only one outfield out.

The Wave's only senior, Laura Simunic, celebrated the senior day festivities with a single, double, triple, four RBI, and four runs scored. Simunic is the first softball player in CCSJ history to play in over 100 games. She now has 138 games played and will graduate with school career records for assists and doubles. The double was her eleventh of the season and established a new single season record for the Wave.

The second game of the scheduled double header was rained out.

The Crimson Wave softball team was defeated in both games of a double header against conference opponent Purdue North Central 8-1 and 4-0. The ladies record is now 12-17 overall and 2-11 in conference.

The Crimson Wave baseball team split with Robert Morris College today. The Wave won game one 6-0 with Billy Metzen's one hitter performance and was defeated in game two 6-5. The men's record is now 9-9 overall and 1-6 in conference.

(4/6/08)Softball Takes Winning Streak to Five
The Crimson Wave softball team defeated MacMurray College and Franklin College in day two of the Crimson Wave Invite.

Game one the Wave took on MacMurray College and found themselves 3 runs down in the bottom of the 7th. The Ashley Berumen hit a three run walk off home run to complete the Waves comeback and win 6-5. Berumend ended game one 3-3. Laura Simunic had a two run homer and a double. Ana Liptack(3-3) got the win for the Wave with two strike outs.

Game two ended in another Crimson Wave victory against Franklin College. The Wave defeated Franklin in five innings 12-4. Ashley Berumen went 2-2 with 4 RBI's including a two run homer. The Wave's Ashley Dau(5-4) got the win.

The ladies are now 12-14.

The Crimson Wave softball team defeated Hannibal-Lagrange College and MacMurray College today.

In game one the Wave defeated Hannibal-Lagrange 3-0. Aubrey Wiersema went 2-3 with a run scored while Penny Bensinger had 2 RBI's. Pitcher Stephanie Zimny(4-7) pitched her fourth shutout of the season.

Game two brought the Wave another win over MacMurray College 10-2. Aubrey Wiersema was 3-3 including a double with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Laura Simunic went 3-4 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, 2 two RBI's. Ashley Dau(4-4) pitched the win for the Wave.

The ladies record is now 10-14. The women will take on MacMurray College and Franklin College tommorow, in day two of the Crimson Wave Invite.

The Crimson Wave softball team defeated Blackburn College college today in both games of the double header 9-6 and 3-0. Game one Ashley Dau was the winning pitcher with Ana Liptack taking the save. Angie Malinowksi had two doubles with three RBI's. Penny Bensinger hit her third home run of the season. Game two was led by winning pitcher Stephani Zimny's 10 strikeouts, while Jessica Chamberlain went 2-3. The ladies record is now 7-11.

The Crimson Wave softball team was defeated today in both games of a conference double header by St. Xavier University 14-1 and 13-3. Laura Simunic led the Wave offense in game one with a triple batting in Aubrey Wiersema. Wiersema ended the game with single and a stolen base. In game two Simunic went 2-3 with two runs scored, while Ashley Lake went 2-2 with 2 RBI's. The ladies record drops to 5-11 overall and 1-5 in CCAC. The ladies will travel to the University of Illinois at Springfield this weekend.

The Crimson Wave softball team was defeated Judson College tonight 6-4 and 4-2. Ashley Lake was 2-3 in game one, while Melissa Liptack drove in two runs. Stephanie Zimny had five strikeouts for the Wave. Game two brought a home run for the Wave by Melissa Liptack going 2-3. Brittany Dickerson ended game two 2-3 for the Wave. The women's record is now 5-9 overall and 1-3 in conference. The ladies will take on St. Xavier University Friday March 28 at home starting at 3:00 pm.

The Crimson Wave baseball team defeated Indiana University Northwest today 22-0. Brandon Siska was the Wave's winning pitcher. Justin Rogers led the way with a three run homer, followed by a two run homer by Ryan Young. Paul Schorle added to the effort with two hits including a double. The Waves record improves to 8-5. The men's next game will be Saturday March 29 at Purdue University North Central starting at 12:00 pm.

(3/25/08)Dau, Wiersema Earns CCAC Player of the Week
Calumet College of St. Joseph’s Ashley Dau (Chicago Heights, Ill.) and Aubrey Wiersema (Dolton, Ill.) made it a clean sweep of the weekly conference softball honors for the Crimson Wave for the week ending March 23.

Dau, a junior, collected one of the biggest wins in the history of the Calumet St. Joseph program when she came on in relief to toss 2 2/3 innings of shutout softball in the Crimson Wave’s 4-1 victory over 2007 NAIA Region VII Tournament runnerup Robert Morris College on March 20. Two of her outs came on strikeouts.

She also threw an inning of scoreless relief in a 4-3, eight-inning setback to Anderson University (Ind.) on March 21

Overall, Dau went 1-1 in four appearances on the week with a 4.45 earned run average for the Crimson Wave, which slipped to 5-7 on the year after dropping four of its five contests during the week.

Wiersma, a junior outfielder, hit safely in four of her five games played going 5-for-18 (.278) with four runs scored and another three driven in. All three RBI and two of her five hits came in a 13-8 loss to St. Mary-of-the-Woods College (Ind.) on March 22. One of the four runs scored came in the big win over Robert Morris College.

The Crimson Wave softball team was defeated in two games today in day two of the IU Southeast Invitational. The Wave were defeated in game one by Saint Mary of the Woods 13-8. The Waves Penny Bensinger had a two run double, while Aubrey Wiersema had one hit with two RBI's and two runs scored. In game two the Wave were defeated by Judson University 7-4. Ashley Berumen had a two RBI double, Angie Malinowski added to the effort with a double. The ladies record is now 5-7.

The Crimson Wave softball team split with Robert Morris College tonight 4-1 and 1-9. Game one brought a win for pitcher Ashley Dau who improves to 2-0 on the season. The game was tied 1-1 until the ninth inning, when third baseman Penny Bensinger hit a two run double to centerfield to put the Wave up two. Laura Simunic sealed the Waves win with a one run double to end the ninth putting the ladies ahead 4-1. Brittany Dickerson was 2-3 for the Wave. Game two went to Robert Morris College defeating the Wave 9-1. The ladies record is now 5-3 overall and 1-1 in conference.

(3/17/08)Softball Returns Home after Best Start, 4-2

The Crimson Wave softball team returned home from Orlando, Fl this weekend going 4-2. This is the best start for a Crimson Wave softball team in its history. The ladies opened the week sweeping Mount Ida College 11-0 and 12-2. Three days later the ladies took on Newbury College and fell short in game 6-3 but revenged themselves 13-0 in game two. Simmons College brought another split for the Wave, again being defeated in game one 9-3 and taking the win in game two 7-1.

Pitcher Stephanie Zimny returned home 2-0 with 21 strikeouts and a .286 batting average. Ana Liptack is 1-1 with 19 strikeouts. Catcher/Third Baseman Penny Bensinger slugged two homeruns throughout the week with 8 RBI’s. Angela Malinowski currently leads the team in stolen bases with five, while Aubrey Wiersema is the current leader in batting average with .474 going 9-16 on the week.

The ladies will take on conference opponent Judson University today at 4:00 pm in Elgin, IL.

The Crimson Wave baseball team returned home from the Russ Mat Invitational this weekend in Orlando, Fl. The men returned home 3-1 after splitting with Becker College 9-11 and 12-5. The men swept Elms College 9-1 and 8-7. Brett Summers had 10 strike outs and took the win in game one against Elms College. (3/7/08)Rainbolt Finishes 11th

Crimson Wave track and field runner Mike Rainbolt ended his indoor season finishing 11th overall in the 800 meter run. Mike ran a 1:57:81 at the NAIA Indoor National Championship Meet. Mike was the first Crimson Wave Track and Field Runner to qualifier for the National Meet.

(3/1/08)Men Finish Indoor Season Strong

The Crimson Wave track and field team competed at the Fred Wilt Memorial Invitational this past weekend. Mike Rainbolt and Raymond Green finished one, two in the 800 meter run. The winning time for Rainbolt was 1:59.17. This meet was the final regular season indoor meet for the Crimson Wave track team. Mike Rainbolt will head to the NAIA Indoor National Track meet on March 6-8 in Johnson City, TN.
