Crimson Wave men’s basketball has announced the signing of Jamard Owens as a member of the 2013-2014 recruiting class. The 6-3 guard from Merrillville, IN comes to Calumet College of Saint Joseph after a successful career at Merrillville High School.

Owens started for a Merrillville High School team that went 22-3 before being eliminated in the IHSAA semi-state final. He led the Pirates in FG percentage shooting an amazing 75% from the field. Owens is also an outstanding rebounder for his size as he has a 40+ inch vertical. “It’s ridiculous,” says Merrillville High School head coach TJ Lux on Owens athleticism.

“We are really excited about Jamard joining our basketball program,” said Crimson Wave head coach Ryan Sexson. “He is a really good kid, with a great work ethic, and outstanding athleticism. That is the recipe for a player that is going to keep getting better.” “He is a talented on ball defender and has a great knack for cutting on the offensive end. Jamard has a chance to be really good.”

Owens plans to major in Business while attending CCSJ.
