The Crimson Wave women's volleyball team is proud to announce the signing of Catheryne Wright to their 2014-2015 recruiting class. Catheryne will be coming to CCSJ from San Diego, California where she attended San Diego City College and played for two seasons. "I am originally from San Diego California. My family currently lives in San Diego, Michigan, and Cleveland, Ohio. I have a few special talents that include speaking three languages. I am fluent in American Sign Language, Spanish and English. My hobbies include yoga, writing poetry, hiking and biking. I coach my own club team, and have been coaching for six years. On Sundays, I attend St. Jude Shrine of the West. This is a small Catholic church we sometimes go to and feed the homeless. I enjoy meditation on view side/scenic side areas (lakes, beaches, cliffs, mountains, etc.). Lastly in my sports career, I have played volleyball for thirteen years, basketball for ten years, softball for five years, and soccer for three years," said Catheryne. Catheryne will be a setter for the Crimson Wave.
"I chose Calumet College of St. Joseph because throughout high school, I had the opportunity to attend a public school and a private school. I Iiked the Catholic (private) school much more. It was nice to be surrounded by people with all the same beliefs, values and morals as myself. I have had the public college experience and would truly love a Catholic college experience. When pursuing CCSJ, research showed that CCSJ was a very family oriented place. I did not find that anywhere else," said Catheryne on why she chose CCSJ.
In high school and club, Catheryne received the Outstanding Offensive Player, Most Inspirational Player, and Second Team All-League. She also received the MVP of the South Bay All-Star Game. Catheryne was ranked in county as a right side hitter as well. While attending San Diego City College, Catheryne made the All-Tournament Team and was also the speaking captain on the court.
"I am very excited to have Cat apart of our program here at CCSJ for the next two seasons. She is a seasoned setter coming from San Diego City JC that will help run our offense here. She has a great attitude and wants to do her best. I know her and I will have a great working relationship that will show on the court and help to make both her and this team successful," said Coach Zimny.
While attending CCSJ, Catheryne will major in Psychology. "While attending CCSJ, I would like to obtain at least a 2.7gpa. I would love to have the opportunity to attend tutoring and get the feel of a small school and actually getting to know my professors. Athletically, my goals include helping lead CCSJ to the NAIA National Tournament. I hope to make the All-Conference Team while exceling in coach's program. Lastly, I hope to break all my career high statistics and set new records for myself," said Catheryne.
