The Calumet College of Saint Joseph men's basketball team is pleased to announce the signing of Flint Powell. The Griffith High School standout becomes the first member of the 2014 recruiting class.
As a starting guard for Griffith, Powell led his team to a 16-7 record and a 2nd place finish in the Northwest Crossroads Conference. Powell averaged 10.5 points per game while handing out 4 assists and grabbing 4 rebounds per game. Powell led his team to a big win over East Chicago Central where he scored 19 points and had 6 assists. Powell is a two-year All-Conference player and was selected to the NWI Times All-Area Honorable Mention team.
"I think Flint is going to be a really nice player for Coach Sexson and Calumet College," said Griffith head Coach Gary Hayes. "He made really good improvements in his decision making and was a great leader and communicator on the floor for us." "He is a very capable scorer and his commitment to the weight room has made him a versatile defender."
"We are very excited to add a player and person of Flint's caliber to our basketball program," said Head Coach Ryan Sexson. "He has been very well coached at the high school level and is an outstanding all-around player. He has good court vision and can score the basketball in a variety of ways. Flint comes from a really good family and will certainly represent our institution well on and off the court."
