The Crimson Wave women’s soccer team in proud to announce another addition to the 2014-2015 recruiting class in the signing of defender Lauren Blackledge. Lauren is coming to CCSJ from Western Australia. “I was born in the North West of England, in a town called Chorley, where I began playing soccer at the age of 7. My family and I moved to Australia when I was 12. We live near Fremantle in Western Australia about half an hour’s drive from the city of Perth.  The weather is out of this world, we can go to the beach for at least 7 months of the year.  It sometimes gets a bit warm for playing football in the summer months occasionally needing to stop the game for drinks breaks,” said Lauren.

Lauren will be joining the team to bolster the Crimson Wave defense. During Lauren’s soccer career, she has received the following honors:

  • Captain for the Western Australia National Training Centre under 15s in 2011
  • Vice-captain for Western Australia State Team under 15s 2011
  • Co-Captain for John Curtin in the Singapore Cup Tournament 2012
  • Vice-Captain for Western Australia National Training Centre under 17s 2013
  • Won an award for representing Western Australia in the National Training Centre under 17s 2013 Tournament
  • Captain of John Curtin College of the Arts Senior Girls 2013
  • Top female footballer at John curtain 2013

“Lauren has a lot of potential to grow as a soccer player. Her attitude and eagerness to improve her game is amazing. I had multiple conversations with her and the family and was very impressed each time. In watching her video, Lauren makes quick decisions out of the back and is a very strong tackler. Lauren seems to have the ability to read the game and has those defensive instincts that I look for. We are very excited to have her join our team,” said Coach Justin Olson.

“I found the college website to be excellent and it gave me lots of information about the athletic and academic program, and the surrounding amenities.  I was impressed with the facilities the college has for students both the learning environment and social facilities.  When we contacted Coach Justin, he was really enthusiastic about the athletic program and his description of the competitions and the soccer facilities placed the college head and shoulders above other locations I had been looking at.  He also explained the expectations set by the college with regards to academic studies and targets. Chicago is so close to the college, it’s really exciting to be given the opportunity to live and study with the city being on the doorstep, it will be awesome. I believe Calumet College of St. Joseph ticks all the boxes regarding my expectations, challenges and ambitions as I complete my degree studies and further my soccer career,” said Lauren on why she joined the Crimson Wave.

While attending CCSJ, Lauren major in Science.
