Coordinated Practicum/Internship Competencies

A Coordinated Practicum/Internship affords students an opportunity to apply various aspects of a major area of study to a work environment.  It is designed to help students make connections between their course work and the actual world of practice by examining the concepts and principles learned in class and their application on the job.

At the conclusion of the practicum, students shall be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of how concepts and principles in their major area of study are applied in their practicum site
  • Use elements of critical thinking to make connections and/or analyze discrepancies between course concepts and practices as they appear in their practicum
  • Relate major program area concepts and principles to social justice issues

  • Discuss ethical relationships and/or dilemmas as they manifest themselves in the practicum site
  • Evaluate their performance as a professional in their area of practice (performance indicators include: judgment, initiative, communication skills, time management skills, capacity for self reflection, and composure)

CCSJ places students in a variety of settings throughout Northwest Indiana and Chicago.
