Résumé Help

What not to do on a résumé:

  • Do not forget to put on a phone number.
  • Do not use personal pronouns.
  • Do not misspell anything.
  • Do not put "resume" or "vitae" on the top.
  • Do not include extraneous information. For instance, if you are a college graduate, you don't need to include your high school information.
  • Do not lie; do not say anything you can't prove.
  • Do not send a photograph.
  • Do not include personal information such as marital status, height, weight or age.
  • Do not state reasons for leaving other jobs.
  • Do not include your social security number.
  • Do not send reference letters unless they are requested.
  • Do not write "Dear Sir" on your cover letter.
  • Do not prepare your resume on a typewriter.
  • Do not use wild colored resume paper, muted colors are best.
  • Do not write a two-page resume.
  • Do not mail a resume without a cover letter.
