Outreach Programs
Across the curriculum, our social justice emphasis fosters ethical
behavior and civic engagement. We actively serve our neighbors with
thousands of volunteer hours a year. We share our gifts with the
less fortunate, providing books to the school-aged victims of Hurricane
Katrina and adopting a Guatemalan village. Through academics and
outreach, the College’s mission extends far beyond the classroom.
In addition to monthly outreach projects, the following projects
are ongoing.
Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels is a community program that utilizes volunteers
to deliver hot, nutritious meals to homebound elderly, ill and disabled
Lake County residents, as well as adults and children in day cares.
Our volunteers play a critical role in helping to feed those in
need. The College’s volunteers deliver meals every Monday
to residents in the Whiting-Robertsdale area.
For more information, please contact Linda Gajewski
(lgajewski@ccsj.edu or 473-4217).
Habitat for Humanity
Volunteers help to build new homes in the area and fulfill the dreams
of home ownership for families. All skill levels are welcomed. For
more information, contact Gabrielle Manson (gmanson@ccsj.edu or 473-4325.)
Some of our annual events include:
September: Chicago Lung Run
Adopt-a-Beach (formerly Coastal Clean-up)
October: Help Your Neighbor Day
Each month we highlight a different outreach
project. These include food drives, coat drives, Gabriel Project,
Haven House, Sojourner Truth House, Migrant Workers.
Please contact the Development Office for further information on
any of these projects.
