JOB DESCRIPTION

Calumet College of St. Joseph is seeking to fill a tenure track position in Religious Studies to begin in January, 2009.  The successful applicant should have a terminal doctoral degree in Religious Studies/Theology, have teaching experience at a college level, and be steeped in the Catholic Social Teaching tradition.  This position has become available through a Lilly Endowment grant and entails working with college freshman to help them form learning skills within a cohort community.  We will begin processing applications on November 1, 2008.  Contact information for three professional references should be provided as well.  Applications should be forwarded to Daniel Lowery, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Calumet College of St. Joseph, 2400 New York Ave, Whiting, IN 46394 or dlowery@ccsj.edu.

JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE
:   Executive Director


JOB SUMMARY
Under administrative direction of the Lakeshore Alliance for Student Success (LASS) Board of Directors, identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards major gift donors; develops fundraising strategies; serves as development liaison; supports budget, projects, goals, and strategic planning; and performs administrative activities related to the operation of LASS.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and experience equivalent to:

  • Bachelor’s degree; supplemented with five (5) years of related K-12 public education experience
  • Established relationships and personal connections with a broad array of community and business leaders in Northwest Indiana communities
  • Resides in the Northwest Indiana area
  • Successful experience with fundraising and grant writing

REPORTS TO
President, LASS Board of Directors

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
May include any and/or all of the following:

  • Identifies, cultivates, and solicits philanthropic support by developing and maintaining relationships with corporations, foundations and individuals including alumni,  business leaders, faculty, staff, and other key personnel; fosters positive and enduring relationships that produce reciprocal benefits.
  • Develops fundraising strategies and methods or activities to ensure proper acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship of donors; participates in developing campaign materials, case statements, and brochures; evaluates effectiveness of development programs and securing gifts at various levels; generates reports.
  • Builds working relationships and serves as development liaison to schools and colleges, regional foundations, university deans, department heads/directors, and other key personnel to achieve successful fundraising; nurtures culture of philanthropic support.
  • Supports the preparation of annual budget and program projects, strategic planning, and goal evaluation.
  • Participates in professional development organizations, committees, boards, and meetings; travels locally, and out-of-town as necessary; prepares reports in a timely manner.
  • May supervise support staff; participates in special projects, and complete other duties as assigned.
  • Promotes the value and importance of a seamless Pre-K-16 learning system.
  • Serves as an advocate for excellence in education.
  • Fosters collaboration to advance student achievement across the entire learning system (pre-K through grade 12 and beyond).
  • Strongly supports and encourages education partners as they develop the highest quality faculty.
  • Serves as a catalyst for establishing The Lakeshore Alliance for Student Success (LASS) as a regional center for education improvement.
  • Fosters a stronger linkage between economic development and education initiatives.
  • Fosters efficient and effective use of resources; supporting complementary services.
  • Evaluates and measures educational system progress against goals and reports regularly to the community.
  • Sets and achieves financial stability through fundraising and grant writing.
  • Builds relationships with schools and school corporations not currently members of LASS with a goal of trying to expand membership in the targeted areas of Gary, Crown Point, Michigan City, LaPorte and Portage.
  • Develops an increased awareness of LASS and builds collaborations with other literacy providers and organizations such as the Northwest Indiana Education Service Center with a goal to leverage professional development training dollars and avoid duplication of programming.
  • Creates strong and broad community and business financial support.
  • Continues and expands collaboration and support of Parents as Teachers programming.
  • Administers the Lakeshore High School Project including monitoring the staff, overseeing the budget, evaluating the program and preparing all local and federal reports.
  • Provides The Discovery Alliance (TDA) with thorough program evaluation information on an agreed upon reporting schedule to coincide with TDA reporting requirements to Lilly Endowment.
  • Organizes and conducts the annual Literacy Conference and promotes it as a joint program of LASS and TDA.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.

  • Persons performing service in this position classification will exert up to 40 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, and handling and working with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Established relationships and personal connections with a broad array of community and business leaders in the Northwest Indiana communities.
  • Resides in the Northwest Indiana area
  • Grant writing experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of administrative experience
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Marketing and planning skills
