What is the annual tuition amount at CCSJ? $12,460 for a full-time (12-18 credit hours per term) student in a traditional undergraduate program for the 2008-2009 academic year. Can I attend CCSJ part-time? Yes. You will be charged $385 per credit hour if you are enrolled part-time (11 credit hours or less) for the 2007-2008 academic year. Will I receive as much financial aid if I attend part-time? While you may receive financial aid as a part-time student, most awards are significantly larger if you attend full-time. When should I apply for financial aid? March 1 of the year preceding your entrance into Calumet College of St. Joseph is the priority deadline for filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). CCSJ’s FAFSA school code is 001834. If I miss the March 1 deadline should I still apply? Definitely. While you may lose eligibility for certain forms of financial aid if you apply after March 1, there are still many other awards that are not tied to the deadline. How do I get a FAFSA form? It is recommended that you apply on-line. Applying on-line ensures that you will receive a response more quickly to your application. If you would like a paper version of the FAFSA, contact your school counseling office (if you are currently enrolled) or contact the CCSJ Office of Financial Aid and we will send you one. (The FAFSA is also available in Spanish). Will a financial aid counselor at CCSJ help me fill out the FAFSA if I do not understand the instructions? Yes. Just contact the Office of Financial Aid. What is a scholarship? A scholarship is an award that is usually based on merit rather than financial need. For example, CCSJ awards scholarships for academic achievement in high school and/or at a previously attended college. What is a grant? A grant is normally awarded to the student based on the student’s financial need. The Pell Grant, awarded by the federal government, is a good example of this. Can any student take out a loan? It depends on the type of the loan that you wish to take out. Eligibility for loans will be determined once you receive your financial aid award letter from CCSJ. You can then fill out the on-line Stafford loan or PLUS (Parental Loan for Undergraduate Students) application form. I live in Illinois. Can I qualify for Indiana state grants? No. Only residents of Indiana are considered for Indiana state grant money. However, CCSJ does offer CCSJ Illinois Grants for residents of Illinois who show financial need.
Once your FAFSA has been processed and you have been admitted to the College the Office of Financial Aid will create a financial aid package for you. You will then receive a financial aid award letter by mail.
CCSJ athletics grants, and certain academic scholarships are available for international students. My parents do not speak English fluently. Do you have Spanish speaking financial aid staff to answer questions for them? Yes. We can either answer questions over the phone or you can make an
appointment to speak with a counselor in person.
