Finding Biographical Information
BiographiesSpecker Memorial Library has biographies about many individuals. To locate one on a specific person, go to Pegasus, the library’s online catalog. Conducting different types of searches will yield different results. To execute a subject search, click the Guided Search tab. Type your person’s name in the top “Search for:” window, making sure to type their last name first. For example -- twain mark. Go over to the “Search in:” window, click the arrow and select “Subject.” Click on the “Search” button. To conduct a Boolean search, click the guided search tab. Type your person’s first and last name in the top “Search for:” window. Click the arrow and select “all of these.” Go over to the “Search in:” window, click the arrow and select “Keyword Anywhere”. Go to the second long window and type the root word biograph and a “?”. Then go over to the adjacent “Search in:” window, click the arrow and select “Keyword Anywhere”. Click on the “Search” button underneath. Typing the root and the “?” tells the computer to search for words beginning with the root biograph such as biography and biographical. Try using autobiograph? instead of biograph?. Biographical ArticlesMagazines and newspapers often contain interviews with famous people or articles about them.
