While many job seekers start their search online, many opportunities can still be found at a Job Fair, which often features employers eager to land good candidates.Walking into a crowded room crammed with booths and recruiters can be a bit overwhelming, but an effective face-to-face talk with a potential employer may be what sets you apart from the competition.
Preparing for a Job Fair includes:
*Dressing the part – showing up wearing blue jeans, sweat suits, or flip flops will certainly make you stand out from the crowd, but not in a good way. Having a professional appearance is vital.
Pick the most conservative outfit you own and be sure to cover tattoos and body piercings.
*Doing your Homework – check out the list of employers who will be attending the Fair and review their web site. This way you can ask the recruiter some specific questions about opportunities for you with their company.
*Selling Yourself – be prepared to tell the recruiter your name, major, and what you’re looking for in a job or internship. Be ENTHUSIASTIC! Many employers say this trait can be as important as job skills
*Having copies of a professionally reviewed resume to leave with a prospective employer.
