Mission Statement of the Tutoring Center

The mission of the Tutoring Center is to assist students in achieving their full academic potential.  The Tutoring Center helps students develop the skills and strategies to become confident, independent, and active learners.  The Tutoring Center program and services enables students to meet the challenge of the institution’s academic standards, guide students in their adjustment to the college learning environment, and prepare students for a lifetime of self-sufficient learning.

Goals
The goals of the Tutoring Center are to:

  1. Regard learners as a central focus of the Tutoring Center program.
  2. Assist any member of the campus community who strives to achieve the maximum personal potential for learning.
  3. Provide instruction and services that promote cognitive, affective, and sociocultural learning and, thus, address the needs of the whole student.
  4. Introduce students to the learning expectations and culture of higher education.
  5. Develop in students a positive attitude towards learning and confidence in their ability to learn.
  6. Promote personal accountability for learning and teach students to plan, monitor, and evaluate their own learning.
  7. Provide a variety of instructional approaches that are appropriate for the level of skills and learning styles of the student population served by the program.
  8. Assist students in transferring the skills and strategies they are developing to their academic work across the curriculum.
  9. Provide services and resources to faculty, staff, and administrators that enhance and support classroom instruction and professional development activities.
  10. Support the academic standards, requirements, and mission of Calumet College.
