Tutoring Options
Scheduled Appointments: Students are encouraged to setup an appointment with a tutor. It is important to make appointments in a timely fashion to ensure availability with a tutor.
How to schedule an appointment
- Call the Tutoring Center at (219) 473-4287
- Request for Tutorial Assistance Form
- Visit the Tutoring Center (Room 413)
Cancellations and No-Show Policy:
If you cannot attend a scheduled appointment, please e-mail Tutoring@ccsj.edu or call (219) 473-4287 to cancel or reschedule your appointment. A NO-SHOW occurs when a student has a scheduled appointment and, either does not report to the Tutoring Center for his/her appointment or does not call at least 24 hours in advance to cancel or reschedule the appointment. A student who has two no-shows is automatically restricted from making tutoring appointments for two weeks from the time of the no-show appointment.
Walk-in Appointments: The Tutoring Center is open to all students during working office hours. Tutors will be on hand for assistance. Please be advised that tutoring is a first come first served basis. Tutoring schedule.
Supplemental Instruction & Study Groups:Study Groups are group tutoring sessions that are scheduled to support students enrolled in historically difficult courses or exam preparation. These sessions are administered by SI Leaders who are trained students/Alumni that have successfully completed the course/exam. Currently, the Tutoring Center is offering study groups in Praxis preparation. Students can walk-in during any or all of these sessions. No application is necessary. The schedule changes each semester depending on the SI Instructor’s availability.

Workshops: In addition to individual tutoring, the Tutoring Center also offers small group workshops on a wide range of academic skills. Students are welcome to use this free service and attend any or all of these workshops.

PLATO Learning: PLATO is a computer based educational system to help students with academic skills in MAth, Reading, Writing and Praxis. PLATO is a web-based learning system that can be accessed from the Tutoring Center on from the comfort of your home. To register for PLATO, please come to the Tutoring Center to complete the registration form and receive an instruction manual.
