Mitchell Read hung in there with the big boys yesterday at the Head of the Rock regatta in Rockford, IL, rowing the three-mile course in 25:37 in challenging conditions, finishing 6th out of 7 men’s novice scullers from three other major rowing clubs.
For a brand new novice in his first-ever race, this is a huge success. Jessica Martinez, Mariana Portela, and alumnus Fernando Perez helped to unload the boat and rig it in record time as well as carry it to the dock through a maze of crews and boats. We could not have done this without their help and support.
Also a big thank-you to our alumna booster, Cynthia Shannon-Hutchinson, who provided lunch for the crew.
Our mission is to report the college news in a balanced way, give students practice in the fields of journalism and newspaper design, and to provide a forum to help build a strong college community.
