This year’s graduating men and women senior basketball players announced who was their favorite professor/mentor at CCSJ.

These teachers were nominated by the men and women’s basketball teams on Senior Day. After the women’s game the seniors were announced with their parents and after that they took the time to announce these amazing professors. These teachers and staff members have influenced the student body in a very positive way. This is a very confusing time in our lives and they have eliminated some stress from the students in making it possible for them to graduate. Thank you to those who have always wanted us to achieve greatness. Here’s what some of them have to say,

Jose Ramirez, basketball: Dr. Allen Brown head of the criminal justice department has helped students make a transition from one major to the criminal justice world. Jose first was in the education field and wanted to change it up by wanting to go into the criminal justice department. For the past two years he has been helping Jose making that transition easy and also helped him with any information Jose needs to know. The transition from teaching to criminal justice was easy thanks to Dr. Brown he made Jose’s dream come true.

Tenaytia Sanford, basketball: Coach Steve Helm is the Assistant AD of Facilities. Helm does a lot for the athletic department and knows how to get things done in a professional way. During our season he was constantly organizing the schedule for the gym and making sure that it is available when the teams need it. Steve Helm is a go-getter and pushes his athletes to be the best they can be.

Ashley Carroll, basketball: Dr.  Greene Director of Field Experience/ Charter & Assistant Professor. The reason why she picked her is because Ashley has been in the teaching department and Dr. Greene has pushed her students to do better and that no matter what you need to follow your heart to be the greatest teacher.

Geena Locicero, basketball: Ashley Houlihan is the Assistant AD./ Compliance & Eligibility. This job may not sound easy and that’s because it’s not. Ashley is in charge of all the athletes and makes sure their paper work is up to date, which is basically everyone. She makes sure students are passing their classes and even passed their classes at their previous school. Houlihan I also a person that you can talk to when you are needing help and someone to talk to, she motivates students and is a mixture of a mom, coach and best friend.

Priscilla Aponte basketball: Professor Kirk Robinson is a major key to the English department here at Ccsj. He has influenced me to become a writer and to make myself a better person I just need to believe that things will fall in place where they may. Robinson has taken stress off my shoulders by being open ears and relating to my problems. Having a person to trust and also who is more educated than you is always a great mentor. Kurt Robinson is some who has truly showed no matter your education you need to be the writer you are and always believe you can do it.
