The eighth annual One Earth Film Festival (OEFF), the Midwest’s premier environmental film festival, officially begins on Friday, March 1 and runs through March 10, 2019.
But before the festival begins, Calumet College of St. Joseph (CCSJ) will be hosting one of the pre-festival film screenings. The film “Living the Change: Inspiring Stories for a Sustainable Future” will be shown on Thursday, February 21, 2019.
The full festival takes place during CCSJ’s spring break and offers multiple film screenings in the Chicago area for free or for a small donation.
The purpose of the festival is to educate, raise awareness, and inspire the adoption of solution-oriented sustainable actions through themed films and discussions. They also strive help people develop a deeper understanding of natural systems, build community, and inspire change.
The directors of “Living the Change,” Jordan Osmond and Antoinette Wilson, gather multiple stories from their travels plus interviews with experts to explain how we’ve we’ve reached the point we are at today.
“We set out to explore solutions to the overlapping crises the world is facing today – climate change, economic instability, resource depletion, environmental destruction,” they explained in an interview with Jamie Morton.
There are times where individuals feel overwhelmed by how big the environmental, economic and social issues the world is currently facing. “Living the Change,” explores a range of creative solutions that people have implemented to change their relationship to their natural environment and with each other.
Through inspiring stories of the people progressing change in their own lives and communities to help live in a sustainable and regenerative way, anyone can be a solution.
From forest gardens to composting toilets, this film offers ideas how to rethink our daily life approach. Everyone on Earth possess the power to create change.
“Living the Change” will be shown at 7:00 p.m. in Room 200 on campus. Admission is free, but donations to support the festival are being accepted.
